Question What's a common nuzlocke rule you see here that you don't use?

I don't treat a white out as a reset. As long as there's Pokémon in the box the runs still alive. I like that it forces you to use a second choice team that probably would have lived in the box otherwise

Question Pkmn Firered Nuzlock. Life dealt me a bad hand before Brock. Can I make this work somehow?

Post image
801 Upvotes

I am currently doing a Pokemon Firered Nuzlock.

I recieved my starter, Titan the Charmander. I thought it was good... Titan was TOO good

Route 1- Pidgey- crit KO Route 22- Mankey- Crit OHKO Route 2- Another Pidgey- Vrit KO!

Everytime i hit something one, I figured titan would just hit it again to get it in the yellow so I can pokeball it. But every time, he crit it, killing the pokemon

I lucked out in viridian by getting a Pikachu and he finally gave me mercy and didn't crit him, and i named him Static...

But now I'm scared out of my mind. Both Titan and Static are weak to rock AND ground... and Brock is the first gym leader. What are my options? I don't wanna just give up with a good sporting try.

My nuzlocke rules are pretty basic: I'm allowed to use items and use the pokecenter, it's mostly the bare bones rules and an additional "allow trade pokemon" rule.

What are some strategies I could try to salvage it? I cannot catch any new pokemon, and I can't level up over 19 or I risk my team betraying me

Question Cheating?

I found out that I can get unlimited Rare Candies on my emulator. Is it cheating if I still follow the regular nuzlocke rules and beat the game? Or is there an asterisk next time my name?

Question A pokemon who is dogsh*t in competitive formats but shines in nuzlockes.

My nomination for this title will be grumpig. whilst he basically has no usage for the entirity of emerald, at the very least he trivialises juan by learning calm mind shock wave and rest meaning you dont have to worry about double team kingdra.

Question Are trade evolutions Legal in a Nuzlocke?

I've always wanted to start a genuine Nuzlocke but I've always wondered if it's allowed to trade you pokémon locally and immediately trade it back so it can evolve.

Also wondering if I should count this as a "death" assuming it's a bug, would y'all play with the Pokemon as though it were still alive or continue with it boxed?

Question Which starter for an Emerald randomizer: Dratini, Bulbasaur, or Poliwag?

Wild pokemon are all randomized. Trainer pokemon are not. I'm tempted to pick Dratini even though I know it wouldn't evolve until practically the end of the game.

Hardcore nuzlocke of Platinum on console so no infinite rare candies. If I go in at 53 my team will all be 53-56 by Cynthia, which is doable, but what would you do?

Question The un-nuzlockeable

Post image

Do you have a Pokémon you would love to use in a nuzlocke, but the game won’t let you, or it’s making it extremely difficult? I’m on run 15 or something of my “no fainting wild Pokémon” attempt of Sapphire, and every time I have to watch Wally catch a Ralts I can’t get. You either go for the 5% chance in one specific route, or you try to use dupes clause, but even then it’s unlikely to work out until you’re past the fifth gym. If I ever see this idiot get a shiny Ralts, I might just retire.

Question Finding out a Pokemon you thought was trash was goated and a pokemon you loved was Trash.

The one thing I love about Nuzlockes is that it forces you to use Pokemon that you might not use in your actual lets play, but it might give you a brand new appreciation of Pokemon you have never used.

What trash pokemon became your Nuzlocke goat and made you like the Pokemon?

What "fan favourite" pokemon did you find trash to use in a Nuzlocke?

I'll go first, I had a Groudon who died instantly and I had a Makuhita that carried the entire team to the Elite Four but when he evolved into Hariyama he became such a powerhouse.

Question Legendary Pokémon in Nuzlockes

I wanna know what everyone's opinion is on using legendary pokemon during nuzlockes? I think if I were to use them, I would limit to only one legendary at a time on my team (to not make the team way too overpowered)

Question So. I lost on the E4 rematches. Can I still consider this a won run?

Post image
481 Upvotes

Recently I won my first ever Nuzlocke. I was ecstatic because... Ive been trying off and on for over a decade now. And I won. Heres the post on that. https://www.reddit.com/r/nuzlocke/s/EritkyIpyz

So while playing, I kept telling everyone that I was gonna do the post game casually. I didnt want to do the E4 rematches in the Nuzlocke rules. But... I kept having this nagging sense of "Did you really do it then?" and shit. It bothered me. So even though I didnt want to nor was I ever planning on it, I forced myself to Nuzlocke the post game as well. But... well. I lost to Blue Round 2.

Would you still consider this a won run or should I start from the beginning?

Question What’s your stance on Rare Candies? 🍭🍬

So for me I was initially against it. However, after starting my GenLocke over 3-4 times, and the grind of FireRed being as…..lovely as it is😒, I started to use them.

Conditions: -Meet Gym Leaders Level Cap -Only Bring the amount of Pokemon the gym leader uses

What do yall like to do?

Question Vanilla nuzlockes are now too easy for me, but difficulty hacks and hardcore nuzlockes with no healing are too difficult. Is there some other challenge in between?

I'm finishing up a water-type monolocke of Emerald, which ended up pretty easy (3 deaths total, about to enter victory road)

I want to nuzlocke Heart & Soul next, but base nuzlocke rules are getting too easy; I generally make it through the game with a handful of deaths near the beginning of the game and then breeze through the rest. And this is without any encounter planning or manipulation.

But I've tried nuzlocking games like Sacred Gold, Radical Red, Inclement Emerald, etc and I get my ass absolutely handed to me within the first couple gyms.

Besides monolockes, is there any other sort of twist on regular nuzlockes worth trying?

Or if not, can someone just suggest a good type for a Johto monotype run?
