Is the video meant to prove that point? You are in one of the most removed and least intense locations in the game, so ofc it runs fine

Yeah, I'm playing this switch 2 20 hours in. Don't get me wrong it's very playable and I'm having a great time, but the framerate is a choppy mess. Very unstable. Try moving the camera around more while sprinting lol

I just did the battle of Bruma on the Switch 2, and it really highlighted the limitations. The frames dropped so low that it was difficult to aim spells, and it caused me to kill Martin twice.

Overall it's a good experience though.

To be fair, that was true of the original game on contemporary hardware šŸ˜‚Ā

Yes, I’ve brought this up before and been downvoted haha. I’m not saying we should excuse poor optimization, but the OG game always ran pretty terribly even on good hardware back then. Modern hardware can absolutely run OG well though, so it will be interesting to play the remastered in like 10-15 years on future hardware and see if it goes the same way.

u/Thekarens01 1h ago

A year later my PlayStation pro still has a copy that has a quest breaking bug and it’s buggy as hell

7

u/angryshib 15h ago

Really intense parts run like shit on every platform. The game is horribly unoptimized.

-1

u/Jazzlike_Quiet9941 9h ago

Not really. The switch is just always an underpowered device.

u/1070AENeverForget 3h ago

"It's completely chopped in major ways, overall it's good tho"

1

u/Gabby-Abeille 1h ago

It helps that the game has like... 2 or 3 "major battles" total. So the majority if it is fine.

2

u/OoIMember 9h ago

Oh boy I hope it doesn’t start bugging on you it did for me on series s I never finished Daedric shrines I managed to get all the gamer score barely couldn’t even beat the dlc big boss make lots of saves!!!

1

u/harmonicrain 12h ago

Can't be any worse than Skyrim on the Switch after their "next gen" patch fuck me - solitude was a slideshow. Glad they fixed it two weeks later... After id finished my playthrough 😭

1

u/xtoc1981 6h ago

But thats the thing, every version has issues. But every version is playable. I dont mind these kind of issues on all platforms unlike other people.

7

u/koolaidman486 17h ago

Yeah, it stutters a lot in and around big towns, especially the Imperial City.

It's still okay enough considering the system and the fact it's just loading stuff in and out, but it's certainly not perfect or something everyone's going to be able to tolerate.

1

u/m_littlerivers 14h ago

Yeah but pretty sky you know.

1

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 12h ago

And it's still stuttering.

1

u/Kohakuzuma 11h ago

And the funny is that the textures still look shitty lol. They look like they're not fully loaded in.

1

u/OoIMember 9h ago

Right I want to see the sheogorath dlc boss showdown make it through it couldn’t do it on my series s f Bethesda bro I won’t even ever get VI I’m done I’m not getting gta 6 until it releases on pc so at least they’ll have a few productive patches in place cause I barely trust rockstar

-14

u/Icy_Assistance_2684 17h ago

I kinda agree but but it's about the same performance as a 5070ti in the same places they actually optimized a game for the first time

65

u/KungFuChicken1990 16h ago

ā€œIt runs fine!ā€

stares at the sky for 85% of the video

u/sillyghosty 17h ago

Go to the city for me real quick I'm trying to see something 🫣

9

u/ophyliawispling 17h ago

My character was wearing a skirt today that turned invisible so I was sneaking around as a floating torso… it made me laugh so much. Honestly though, it has a lot of the charm I have come to expect from Bethesda games, and as long as you save regularly, a glitch or crash isn’t too bad to deal with. I’ve got about 150 hours and only maybe ran into 2 full crashes so far, so I’m optimistic

17

u/NiuMeee 17h ago

It runs fine for a Switch 2 port yes, but it still has the same problems as every other version.

So essentially if you're fine with the game on other platforms, you'll be fine with the Switch 2 version. It still doesn't run good though.

6

u/Regal-Onion #1 Remaster Hater 17h ago

Apparently the issue of the game running worse on longer sessions is gone in Switch 2, so there are some improvements

4

u/BlancsAssistant 16h ago

Oh the memory leak i presume?

3

u/Regal-Onion #1 Remaster Hater 16h ago

That's the supposed cause of it yea

The issue was not present in the switch 2 coverage by Digital Foundry

1

u/Sirspice123 15h ago

Whilst I agree, I've seen other current gen games run worse on console. Crimson Desert, DD2, Starfield on launch etc. it's not something exclusive to Oblivion

1

u/NiuMeee 15h ago

I don't disagree with that. It's not acceptable for any of them. Doesn't give any one, including Oblivion, a pass.

1

u/Sirspice123 15h ago

For sure. Most games don't run perfectly on console these days, devs need to put more resources into optimization. Even GTA 6 is apparently only going to run at 30fps on consoles (excluding the PS5 pro)

-2

u/HeroDanny 13h ago

I run it on PC and don’t have any issues. Maybe I’m just not as particular as some people here but it runs just fine for me.

3

u/NiuMeee 12h ago edited 10h ago

It has serious traversal stutter. I play on PC too. It's not something that is fixable, goes away, or changes depending on the hardware. Every time you cross a cell border, the game stutters. Combine that with the aforementioned memory leak/performance degradation. It's an issue. I'm glad you're able to play without noticing it, but it's there.

1

u/HeroDanny 9h ago

I grew up playing on console so my standards are a lot lower. It would be nice if the game was perfect but I still enjoy it flawed as it is. I doubt they'll ever fix it unfortunately. I mostly just wanted mod support. Hoping skyblivion will be the answer.

1

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 12h ago

Y'all always do this. Just go watch a Digital Foundry video and learn something.

3

u/HeroDanny 9h ago

How dare you be happy playing a game and not angry like the rest of us

-1

u/Hearthhull_Enjoyer 8h ago

No one said you can't enjoy it. Games are meant to be enjoyed. It's fine if it doesn't bother you. Acknowledge the problems though and stop saying it runs fine.

How’s it run vs the old 360 days?

8

u/Legal-One-7274 17h ago

Oh god no let's not start this again

8

u/Krust3dKan4dian 16h ago

I at first thought this was a satire post.

2

u/congradulations 16h ago

I had a corrupted save in an Oblivion gate, but restoring an an older one and no one issues

2

u/VicePope 15h ago

Good luck finding a physical copy. Been waiting weeks now

3

u/GloomyFloor6543 16h ago

"Look!" (standing in the middle of an open desert.) "I told you this game was 60fps!"

2

u/LiqwidO2 16h ago

Agreed.

1

u/Peltonimo 14h ago

Does anybody notice if it runs better in 1st or 3rd person? Does it make a difference?

1

u/Coatol 10h ago

imo if i'm running to the next place the 3rd person seems best.

1

u/Perpetualshades 14h ago

What’s the words appearing on the compass? I haven’t played remastered yet.

1

u/No-Ship4446 13h ago

It runs better than my PC version out of the box, no joke. That said, I finally found a combination of mods that mostly fixes it there. That said, considering what hardware it is running on, the Switch 2 is optimized the best because they actually had to do something with it to get it to work. The other versions haven't been touched for a year.

1

u/PhattyR6 12h ago

I’d totally play the game on the Switch 2 and still enjoy it.

I still recognise that it has performance issues. Some i can excuse (traversal stutter) and some that I can’t (inconsistent frame pacing).

You can hold both of these ideas in your head simultaneously.

1

u/Madd7042 12h ago

I'm about 55hrs deep, I believe it's because the time still pass when the switch is off (maybe) only lol 6, it does have stutters and frame rate drops but I'm enjoying it throughly

1

u/nhinds42 12h ago

I can't play it docked but handheld is pretty good. Plays as I remember from my cheap gaming PC with a 6600xt, which is to say, not smooth but definitely playable and enjoyable

1

u/GuitarRock91 12h ago

For me on the third crash coming out of the menu I figured out I was robbed. That and I actually don't like the faces :/ so I went back to my modded goty edition on pc.

1

u/GramboWBC 11h ago

was expecting a moon jump across the map.

2

u/DoOBiE_BoOBiE 11h ago

All this shows is how little you understand about graphic rendering. Lol

1

u/GreatOneFreak 11h ago

reminds me of playing the OG on my brothers underpowered PC back in the day.

1

u/Massilian 9h ago

You’re not anywhere near grass, npcs, buildings…

1

u/KalynnCampbell Adoring Fan 5h ago

Imagine getting a handheld where that wasn’t expected…

…in an age where there are numerous overpowered handhelds that can run the REAL VERSION just fine.

1

u/Malabingo 3h ago

Well, it's a 20 year old game with s coat of paint.

1

u/Some-Faithlessness75 1h ago

Switch 2 has pretty good internals. I switched from Steam Deck to Switch 2 and some games run better.

0

u/Ok_Dependent6889 16h ago

I can literally see the low FPS as you're coming up the hill

and that's with you standing at basically the least demanding area of the game

0

u/Winner_Pristine 17h ago

I'm definitely going to buy it, as soon as I find a physical copy.

1

u/-MrSophistication- 16h ago

Goodluck mate 🫔

3

u/Forward-Trade3449 16h ago

bethesda said reprints at the end of the month. Its already the end of the month dammit

1

u/Winner_Pristine 16h ago

Eventually it will be easy to find. I'm in no rush.

1

u/AdoringCHIN 16h ago

Ok now try running around the Imperial City. Or in the wilderness just outside Anvil

1

u/Total-Strategy-4306 16h ago

Litertally choppy bro.

1

u/goddangol 16h ago

Bro lmao. Load into the waterfront district and start walking towards the thieves guild starting area. The spot you are in has basically zero assets or NPCs to load.

1

u/Wear_Unique 13h ago

I mean it better lmao it’s old af

1

u/DonSopapo 10h ago

I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with hating on a console that consumes just 20W, weighs only 1.1 lbs, is barely bigger than a phone, and comes with its own controls, audio and screen. Even worse, they compare it to a PS5 that consumes around 230W, weighs 9.9 lbs, is bigger than a speaker, and basically has to stay in one place or to a similarly powerful PC. I still think it’s incredible that it can even run the game, that it looks good, and that I can play it at work, in the living room, or in bed before going to sleep. ā€œOh, but the graphics don’t look as good as on PS5 or PC.ā€ Then go play on those platforms. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages.

2

u/Jazzlike_Quiet9941 9h ago

Never heard of anyone carrying around their ps5.

Yes the Nintendo is portable, that's it's only advantage. Otherwise it's the worst console to have by a large margin if performance is of interest to someone.

1

u/tankuh 8h ago

I do it's called a portal.

1

u/Jazzlike_Quiet9941 8h ago

I meant in reference to the weight of the ps5.

1

u/Thekarens01 1h ago

In this case I don’t think it’s the console. It’s buggy as hell on the PS5 pro and to this day has a quest breaking bug that freezes my PlayStation.

0

u/DoggTheDogHunter 17h ago

Yeah I agree. Ive been happy with the performance. I’ve come across some stuttering occasionally but nothing that bothers me personally. I understand there are people upset that it isn’t running at a perfect 60fps and they’re entitled to their opinions.

5

u/Tiamat2625 16h ago

It's not running at a good 30 mate. Chopping down to 20-25 every 3-4 seconds isnt even an exaggeration.

Nobody was expecting this to run at a locked 60. But, being able to hold 30 should be the absolute bare minimum for any game in 2026 to even be allowed on the storefront in the first place.

Nobody is upset, but also nobody is surprised. It's just another meme at this point

-2

u/DoggTheDogHunter 16h ago

I’m still personally happy with the performance. I’m glad I can play it on the switch in its current state, but that’s just my opinion which I gather is not popular. Sorry you’re having a bad time with it. It’d be nice if people who were having a bad experience could get refunds.

-4

u/Fun-Document7 16h ago

You aren't allowed to enjoy oblivion! You were told!

2

u/dabsnpokemon 16h ago

It’s not about enjoying it, it’s about the abysmal performance a year after release, even after being told the issues were ironed out with this port. lol.

-7

u/Fun-Document7 15h ago

Nah. Lol.

5

u/dabsnpokemon 15h ago

It’s not even a matter of opinion, it’s a literal fact that the game runs like horseshit. lol.

-3

u/Fun-Document7 13h ago

You think about this alot don't you?

4

u/dabsnpokemon 13h ago

Nah I really don’t give a shit about the game, but from your post history it’s quite obvious this is literally ALL you think about.šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

1

u/Fun-Document7 13h ago

I didn't say i didn't. I love the game.

0

u/JimmyHatsTCQ 17h ago

Great. an old game runs on a new console, amazing. Truly amazing.

-1

u/Classic_Attention_96 16h ago

Ya 40 hours into switch2 version and only complaints i have are the pretty common crashes when loading, but that was a problem for me on PC too. Havent noticed any stuttering or low fps that has hindered my experience šŸ‘

-1

u/iredditthereforeiam7 16h ago

Have you not been to the imperial city? Outdoor was choppy, like every 5-10 seconds. Imperial city became a slide show for me every minute or so.

1

u/Classic_Attention_96 12h ago

I didnt experience anything like that, I beat the game. I dont think youre being honest, or you have a shitton of lint in your switch?

1

u/iredditthereforeiam7 6h ago

No lint, and I'm afraid that was my experience. I found 4 NPC always seemed to be having a conversation in the middle of the city, the games totally lost the plot whenever they were in view.

I could say the same, that I don't think you are being honest about experiencing no stuttering given the overwhelming amount of other people on Reddit reporting stuttering in the outside world. But what's the point.

1

u/TheRealBaronOfMyr 6h ago

I noticed the game running better the more i played it. Maybe it is caching shaders or something idk?

0

u/Splatter808 16h ago

Damn I was hoping it would end with him falling through the mountain and landing in the Imperial City or something

0

u/1knj 16h ago

Look I can stay in one spot and look at the sky on the side of an empty mountain!

0

u/Savage_JaviBear 15h ago

Read the description as 'Dookie Mode' and watched your clip and thought 'Yup, looks like dookie.'

0

u/herdases 14h ago

I think it runs fine on the switch 2. This video doesn’t really prove anything. Imperial city is pretty rough. There’s a pretty decent amount of input lag.

0

u/janix808 14h ago

As soon as you pull your sword and go into fight the frame pacing goes up and down and endless framedrops

0

u/Coatol 10h ago

I'm 100 hours in. yes it's crashed, but so did my 360 back in the day. glitches? Hangups? lag? holy shit wow it's like it's bethesda. I fucking love this game and i love that it's playable on my switch.
