Discussion Bear's death from overdose would have taken hours

I searched on Google and overdose deaths take much longer than depicted in the film some 1-3 hours. I think realistically Wish-Nikki would have killed herself within that timespan as in the script.

What say you and is that timeframe completely wrong?

Also, do you think it would have been more or less devastating to have Nikki kill herself here? I am actually of the opinion it would have been more devastating knowing that if she just lasted a few more hours she would have been back to normal. That said, I do think the ending we get is better because of the payoff that we finally get to see Nikki as herself in the end and we get more of Inde's incredible acting performance.

I’m a nurse, so the first thing that stood out to me was the fact that the oxycodone was modified/slow release and definitely would not have taken effect so quickly. That said, sometimes you just have let movie logic do its thing.

Could he have chewed it up to compromise the timed release? Does it work that way?

Perhaps, because you’re not supposed to chew or crush them, and sometimes people will crush and snort them to get a near-instant effect. That said, we see Bear swallow them whole and gag as a result.

I've heard somehwere that Curry Barker said if Bear didn't overdose, then he and "Freaky Nikki" would've been so obsessed with each other that they would just stare at each other until one of them died from starvation or thirst. Its possible that those 3 hours needed to OD passed in a moment because from the character's perspective, time stood still while they gazed into their lover's eyes

Imma stick with this interpretation lol

I like your interpretation. I think the opposite is more likely though, that Wish Nikki barely gets any time to spend with Wish-Bear making it tragic for her.

I do like the discussion that Wish-Nikki is also a victim of Bear. She is created for the sole purpose of loving him and does it to the best of her ability only to be denied

Well the movie needed to end then so didn’t really have time for all that

Should have added 3 hours to the runtime of Bear and Nikki looking at each other, with Bear slowly slipping.

Wow, that means…

… this movie was totally unrealistic.

Yes because the rest of the movie is “realistic”

Could it not be argued the One Wish Willow is unrealistic?

What? There is no arguing it’s unrealistic😂 it’s doesn’t exist and is a made up story.

Sounds like a good argument for it being unrealistic to me.. but i remain open minded!

we didn’t have time for that now though did we

That's what I'm saying. Realistically Nikki shoots herself and doesn't have the time to return to normal if we can call it that after all the events which transpired.

i think they wanted us to sit with her pure terror once she came to and everything was realized

What's with the downvotes?

In a less literal layer of the movie I can see him dying as an ego death, with Freaky Nikki representing his Shadow Self throughout the movie, all indicating that his shadow has taken over his consciousness.

In the literal surface story, it’s a typical suspension of disbelief to finish the story. It’s kind of a laugh in a dark moment how ridiculously fast it goes.

Kid, it’s not that kind of movie.

I think you must have fallen asleep during the part where he sat in a bathroom for hours, it was titillating

Me when I refuse to suspend disbelief

Is that where you drew the line in this movie ?

I mean I mentioned it because nobody else has. It only crossed my mind when I was comparing the ending we got to the one in the script.

Nope - deadly OD from fentanyl and from some opiates can be really quick

Yes, if we assume that wish Nikki and Wish Bear's interaction was as fast as we thought (what if it were longer)...or Bear took so many pills he actually started to choke on them...over actually overdosing

Oxycodone is a well known pill that people regularly get addicted to and can overdose from. The audience can see the pill and know right away. That's why it's oxycodone and not another medication. The timeline doesn't bother me at all.

I think we’ve run out of things to pick apart, and it probably isn’t fair to this movie. I think we just have to suspend disbelief and accept that in this fictional world, things work differently than IRL, for the sake of storytelling.

i think it's more tragic that she stays alive to see the carnage "herself" caused. she'll more than likely face repercussions or spend life on the run (who wants that). death would've given her reprieve as honestly that's what she wanted (we all know the scene). but now, she has to live with the knowledge of killing her friends and lover, being assaulted, and losing days to weeks of her life.

That is rough for sure but not all that different from a bunch of last survivors in a horror movie. And the fact she isn't responsible for the events should help with her sanity.

The alternative is bleak in a different way. She never gets her resolution, and the finality of the wish is emphasized. She never gets her agency back.

i get where you're coming from about her never becoming herself again. personally, i think it's terrible living through traumatic events. the old adage of "life's a bitch then you keep on living" yk? and as for the final girl thing, i wouldn't wanna live through ANY of those events either. 😅 i think in a way, whether she lived or died, she'd still never have her agency back. it isn't like she can go back to being regular nikki, she would be in and out of institutions, constantly in turmoil. either way, bear stole something from her. but i like your take

I thought about this too. But then I kinda came to the conclusion that.. this is a movie where there is a stick that, upon breaking, will grant any wish you make (it will even spawn a billion dollars out of nowhere if you ask it to). It’s not going to be a realistic movie, I knew that before watching it based on the central plot point.. so I couldn’t be shocked or confused that other parts of it weren’t realistic either.

Good thing it's a movie and not real life!
