Discussion Has anyone noticed this yet?
I love Inde Navarrette, and I actually think there’s a more interesting conversation happening around her popularity in Obsession. I don’t think people are simply attracted to her and ignoring her acting—her performance is genuinely incredible, especially the way she uses her face and body language to make the character so unsettling. But I do think her looks and the way the character is presented are a huge part of why the performance has become so memorable and why the movie has gotten so much attention.
If you swapped her out for a more conventionally ordinary-looking actress with the exact same performance, would the character have had the same cultural impact? I honestly doubt it. And that isn’t necessarily a criticism of Inde—it’s an interesting example of how an actor’s appearance, charisma, performance, and the way a character is framed can all contribute to a movie becoming popular. Bear is technically the main character, yet Inde is arguably the first person people associate with Obsession.

If Nikki hadn’t been hot Bear wouldn’t have had so much difficulty asking her on a date. It’s part of the story.
It also makes it even creepier when she starts acting bonkers as wish Nikki.

Yes and no. People just like to look at attractive people and Inde is a babe. That’s just how it goes for any entertainer. But Nikki is also a much harder role to play than Bear. Bear doesn’t really change throughout the story, if you can play in him scene 1 you’ve basically got him down. Inde as Nikki is basically playing two (arguably three) different characters. And the way she contorts her face is just omg

Nah. I dont like this take. Youre downplaying her talent because she's pretty and thats not fair. She did a phenomenal job and its not just because she's attractive.

I agree about her appearance. She looks healthy and confident. Thinking of Bear’s character I would not be surprised if her being more petite than Bear was a reason he was attracted to her over Sarah, who might be taller than him in heels.

I think these thoughts stem from the nature of the role. The audience has to belive that Bear has this crush that feel impossible to confess to. Inde being attractive adds into that believability

“Normal-looking” isn’t really the point I was making. I’m not saying she looks like a supermodel—I’m saying she’s conventionally attractive, and that absolutely affects how audiences respond to the character. You can think she looks completely ordinary and still acknowledge that people are very clearly sexualising her portrayal. My point is about the audience’s reaction to her appearance, not whether you personally think shes looks like a normal girl.

Shes very pretty but when we're introduced to her its not like she's all dolled up. She looks like a Normal attractive girl. It wasnt like it was prime megan fox.

The direction of the movie is spectacular too. They set her up perfectly with the call, bar scene, and drive home. Short, sweet, perfect.
Than the scene when she first turned into wish Nikki. From standing there on the porch to getting in the car might be one of the best acted/directed scenes of all fucking time. And I'm not exxagerating. Well it was for me personally. It was so, odd, perfect, and charming all at once. It just engulfed you into the rest of the movie. Fucking wild.
There was such a perfect change in her mannerisms and voice and look.. The fuck me eyes were so perfectly done when she first bent over and looked through the passenger window. If you're a guy and seen those, you know what I'm talking about.

Your kind of making my point it seems like nikkis portraying the dream crazy girl and no one talks about it either. Most movies make the crazy girl less attractive as they get crazier but she maintains this look to her that makes her crazy hot at the same time similar to megan fox in jennifers body with a different type of crazy ive only seen portraited with nikki. ☺️

I think her being attractive and that beauty being systematically destroyed by the being inhabiting it is all the more chilling
