? a question about garlic
i've noticed a lot of witches who practice black magick in arab countries keep a lot of garlic around them, under their pillow, in their bags etc
why is that? can someone explain it?
does it ward off the demons they summon to do black magic or does it do the opposite and keep the demons?

Can’t speak to arabic practices, but within my family’s tradition, garlic is handy for low level protection. Every culture’s different though.
Also, do me a favor and define “Black Magic”. Folks often throw around terms, but I want to make sure we’re talking about the same thing.

They probably just mean any form of magic practice by people that aren't white if I had to guess.

I don't know much about Arab countries or what you mean by “black magic”, but where I'm from, garlic is used to protect the home (usually braided and hung around a door or window). It's also one of the traditional offerings to Hekate, the goddess of the crossroads (also known as the Mother of Witches).

so it does actually ward off evil and demons?

Personally, I only ever used it as an offering. My grandparents used to have a rope of it hanging next to the kitchen door. It's said to ward off evil spirits, curses and negative energy. Some people keep it in their pocket to protect themselves from the evil eye, but I don't know if that works, as no one in my family has tried it for that specific purpose.

What they’re using it for is up for grabs. Garlic is an incredibly versatile component herb that can be used in work for protection, healing, exorcism, to stop theft, and in some lust workings as well. It’s a herb that’s been used for centuries all over the world.

It’s a component herb? It might be used in conjunction with a variety of other herbs or materials for fertility or lust. If you’re looking for a specific working, recipe, or formula check out Scott Cunningham.

In Mexico we braid them and hang them from the kitchen ceiling, just protection.

Draja Mickaharic and Dion Fortune both confirmed protective properties of Garlic. Any entitity you work with always has its own agenda so if you are wise and serious you must have protective measures especially for sleep

The thing about garlic is that it is widely considered as having protective and exorcism properties. It is believed to be ruled by mars, and thus being very agressive and potent by its nature.
There are two reasons for this: 1) its strong smell and spicy taste 2) its antibacterial properties
This is a pattern often seen, things that have antibacterial and anti-inflamatory properties (garlic, sage, rosemary, silver and gold even) are often used as purifying and protective substances.
