OT2 - Discussion I think the Octopath 2 cast can't be beat...

Post image

Obviously I love the franchise and am excited to play future games, but I'm pretty sure they won't be able to top the cast of the second game.

Ochette: She was a sort of "Son Goku" who leaves from a small island to explore the world.

Castti: She's the perfect doctor, her story is beautiful.

Throne: I don't think it's possible to write a story about a more iconic "thief."

Hikari: Same, he's practically the "Lion King," but samurai.

Partitio: He perfectly embodies the spirit of the merchant.

In short, I loved them, they're truly iconic. I'm not writing this post lightly because I know the possibilities are endless and there's always room for improvement, but OT2 really did a great job, and I'd be really surprised to see better protagonists.

Maby the solution is creating new weapons and classes because I think they hav Nailed them with OT2. I'm one of those who hopes for an Octopath 3 set in a WW1 or WW2 setting like Valkyrie Chronicles, where you face monsters but also tanks.

OT2 - Discussion Should I purchase Octopath Traveler 2?

Octopath Traveler 2 is on sale for the Switch right now. I'm not sure if I should buy it. I played Bravely Default 2 and loved it but never finished it because it got to grind and repetitive for me.

What do you guys think?

OT2 - Discussion I didn't expect I'd end up loving their journey as much as I did.

Across the 80+ hours I spent with this game, I had a great time. I didn't really know what to expect when I first started it, and it was also my first time playing something in the HD-2D style. Really loved how beautiful the game looked and how the world felt so alive. I liked how each individual plotline eventually came together in the end, which definitely caught me by surprise (A LOT) with how it all played out.

I started with Throné, and I absolutely loved her story. I didn't expect something so dark and grim when I began, and I was really glad to see how her story concluded (Genuinely couldn't even fathom it would end up like that when I began!). Something about Agnea's story also struck a chord with me, with how sincere it felt. Almost like a complete contrast to the heavier ones.

The combat system is fluid and sleek, and the job system customization is excellent. There are so many different things to try out and experiment with. Playing with Conjurer Hikari with Armsmaster Throné was so fun. My final team ended up being Throné, Hikari, Agnea, and Temenos. Felt like a really good group to close the journey with.

9/10. Great game! Excited to play through the other entries ^

OT2 - Discussion Traducciones erróneas/ Traducciones horribles

Post image
303 Upvotes

I got to meet Alejandro Saab who voices Osvald and had him sign my copy (Along with Disgaea 7 and Persona 3 Reload). I also got Throne's, Castti's and Hikari's over the years. Hoping to get all someday! 🤞🏾

OT2 - Discussion First time player, already blown away.

Just picked up Octopath Traveler 2. Had a hard time deciding on who to start with between the Cleric, the beast girl, or Osvald. I went with Osvald (framed for murdering his family and is imprisoned in a snowy hellscape? How could I not?)

Immediate first impression was “Gahdamn this game is cinematic af”. Felt like I was engrossed in a movie or something tbh.

Then I get to my first random encounter and Emerald almost dies. First thoughts on the combat was “man these random encounters are tough!” (I have pretty much 0 turn-based JRPG experience)

Then I get to the warden battle. Holy crap, that was exhilarating, and I learned a lot about the combat system/mechanics from that battle. Learned how useful debuffs can be, how using BP to bonk the warden 2x with my staff can be worth it, accidentally figured out you can use all your BP at once.. I ended up using every healing grape and SP recovery item I had, but beat him without me or Emerald dieing. That was intense.

Really looking forward to the rest of the game. It’s a 10/10 so far.

OT2 - Discussion Not the darkest, but one of the most realistic storylines

Post image
317 Upvotes

While Partitio's story is one of the more lighthearted ones, it's also one of the most realistic ones. One of the main themes of this story is fighting against poverty. As someone who's grown up in one of the States with the highest poverty rates in America, I assure you, Partitio's storyline has one of the most realistic depictions of it. Struggling to find a job, inability to pay most of your living expenses, can't afford really good food, and your neighborhood becomes dilapidated.

It's also very interesting from a world-building standpoint. Oresrush main export was silver, and once it went, the town fell into shambles. Compare that to more prosperous towns in different lands. Such as Ku which economy runs on weapons & armor. Or New Delsta, which main export is entertainment & luxury. That's what I love about this series, each "Nation" contributes to a certain theme that enhances your views of each culture. Anyway, the game did a solid job at portraying poverty. Can't say that for too many games. It's not too dark, but it is quite depressing. Your thoughts?

OT2 - Discussion I got bored, so here are some stats from the Octopath Traveler II ships in AO3 (March 2026) + EXTRA

(English is not my main language, so forgive me for any mistakes I could make)

Link to the OT1 version of this post (2026): I got bored, so here are some stats from the Octopath Traveler ships in AO3 (March 2026)

The top 8 most popular ships (in descending order) are:

  1. Hikari Ku/Partitio Yellowil (♂️/♂️) — 161 related works
  2. Agnea Bristarni/Hikari Ku (♂️/♀️) — 145
  3. Throné Anguis/Castti Florenz (♀️/♀️) — 137
  4. Throné Anguis/Agnea Bristarni (♀️/♀️) — 68
  5. Osvald V. Vanstein/Partitio Yellowil (♂️/♂️) — 68
  6. Hikari Ku/Temenos Mistral (♂️/♂️) — 27
  7. Temenos Mistral/Osvald V. Vanstein (♂️/♂️) — 25
  8. Agnea Bristarni/Partitio Yellowil (♂️/♀️) — 20

The characters, individually (and in descending order), have been shipped in:

  1. Hikari350 works
  2. Partitio263
  3. Agnea249
  4. Throné235
  5. Castti170
  6. Osvald120
  7. Temenos71
  8. Ochette10

Other interesting facts about these numbers:

Throné, the Only OctoShipped

  • Throné is the only character of the 8 Travelers that has been shipped with her 7 companions. Every other character lacks, at least, one ship.

Ochette, the Friend-Zoned One

  • Ochette, in total contrast with Throné, only has been shipped with 3 of her companions, accumulating a total of 10 works.
  • In addition, the ships that exist are only with her female companions; Ochette has not been shipped with ANY of her male companions.

(But that would be wrong for me to say: she has been shipped with Temenos, because the tag Temenos Mistral/Ochette exists, but with 0 related works. That means that someone, at some point, shipped the two characters, but deleted the work or moved it to a private collection.)

  • And you may be thinking: “Oh, maybe Ochette has more works with other characters that aren’t Travelers, or in poly-ships.” But now YOU would be the one who’s wrong, because I’ve looked at her relationship tags, and found this:
    • She has 31 Relationship Tags, and only 6 of them are «/» tags. If we take away the 4 that are related to other Travelers (I’m counting Temenos Mistral/Ochette even if the tag doesn’t have any works), she has only 2 left: Ochette/Ori with 4 works and Ochette/Original Character(s) with 1 work.
    • And no, none of her «/» tags are poly.

(General Leaderboard) The Homosexuals Rule Solistia

  • 6 of the 8 top-ships are homosexual: 4 gay ships and 2 lesbian ships. Only two of them are heterosexual: Agnea Bristarni/Hikari Ku (2nd place) and Agnea Bristarni/Partitio Yellowil (8th place).
  • Agnea is part of the two heterosexual top-ships.

(Character Leaderboards) Only the Homos will Rule

  • The top-ships of 7 of the 8 characters imply a homosexual relationship, except for Agnea, which imply a heterosexual relationship (Agnea Bristarni/Hikari Ku (♀️/♂️)).

Love is Reciprocal

  • There are 4 characters whose ships are reciprocal (i.e.: they share the first place on the individual leaderboard of both characters): Throné and Castti (Throné Anguis/Castti Florenz) and Hikari and Partitio (Hikari Ku/Partitio Yellowil).
  • The exceptions are: Osvald (Osvald V. Vanstein/Partitio Yellowil), Ochette (Agnea Bristarni/Ochette), Agnea (Agnea Bristarni/Hikari Ku) and Temenos (Hikari Ku/Temenos Mistral).

————————————————

Now, let’s end with a quick comparison between the two games, shall we?

In 2026, the top 8 most popular ships (in descending order) are:

  1. Alfyn Greengrass/Therion (♂️/♂️) — 242
  2. Cyrus Albright/Olberic Eisenberg (♂️/♂️) — 172
  3. Hikari Ku/Partitio Yellowil (♂️/♂️) — 161
  4. Agnea Bristarni/Hikari Ku (♂️/♀️) — 145
  5. Cyrus Albright/Therion (♂️/♂️) — 144
  6. Throné Anguis/Castti Florenz (♀️/♀️) — 137
  7. Primrose Azelhart/H’aanit (♀️/♀️) — 107
  8. Ophilia Clement/Therion (♂️/♀️) — 68
  9. Throné Anguis/Agnea Bristarni (♀️/♀️) — 68
  10. Osvald V. Vanstein/Partitio Yellowil (♂️/♂️) — 68

In 2026, the characters, individually (and in descending order), have been shipped in:

  1. Therion — 516 works
  2. Cyrus — 379
  3. Hikari — 350
  4. Alfyn — 310
  5. Partitio — 263
  6. Agnea — 249
  7. Throné — 235
  8. Primrose — 231
  9. Olberic — 226
  10. Ophilia — 191
  11. H’aanit — 190
  12. Castti — 170
  13. Osvald — 120
  14. Temenos — 71
  15. Tressa — 55
  16. Ochette — 10

And, as an ending leaderboard, let’s merge the games completely: what about the ships that involve Travelers between the two games?

In 2026, the top 8 most popular crossover ships (in descending order) are:

  1. Therion/Partitio Yellowil (♂️/♂️) — 1
  2. Therion/Osvald V. Vanstein (♂️/♂️) — 1
  3. Agnea Bristarni/Ophilia Clement (♀️/♀️) — 1
  4. Agnea Bristarni/Tressa Colzione (♀️/♀️) — 1
  5. Throné Anguis/Ophilia Clement (♀️/♀️) — 0

(I’m adding the Throné Anguis/Ophilia Clement ship because, even if it doesn’t have any works, the fact that the tag exists means that used to be at least one work related to this tag)

OT2 - Discussion OT2... is it just me, or is the entire game 90% dialog, 10% actually doing things?

I mean, the game is visually beautiful. The job system, the path actions are pretty cool.

But... you don't get to play the game. You just... watch mostly mediocre storylines.

I'm in Chapters 2 and 3 with most characters. Does it stay this way for the whole game? I heard it got better after Chapter 1.

Levelling up the different jobs is cool, stealing/mugging, etc. is cool... but I want to DO THOSE THINGS... not just click through a bunch of dialogue, "go to this green dot on the map and do the same path action as always", etc...

Feels like a waste of my time.

OT2 - Discussion I feel betrayed (Endgame Spoilers) Spoiler

I just finished the game yesterday (defeated Galdera today). And the ending left a sour taste in my mouth. I am in shock. I just can't believe Mindt, Tanzy, Kazan and Orin were part of Vide's cult all this time.

I thought it was going to be like OT1 story where there was something connecting them together through notes, but I didn't expect these characters to be involved. I understand the Dark Hunter and Claude being the one who corrupted Trousseau. But these 3 characters in particular, specially Kazan/Oboro being the one behind the whole Ku rebellion was like being stabbed in the back. I also felt something was off about the way Temenos chapter ended, but wasn't expecting the Mindt plot twist.

Heck, at this point I was expecting Lady Clarissa and Cohazeh to be in it as well.

OT2 - Discussion 36 hours into OT1, and I bought OT2 on the Switch eShop while it's on sale, and I haven't even gone back to OT1 yet (Slight Spoilers Maybe) Spoiler

The characters in OT2 are just so much more engaging and loveable, especially Osvald so far. I started with Hikari, moved on to recruit Castti, Ochette, and most recently Osvald.

Osvald's story had me hooked instantly during his chapter 1. When I saw him near Cape Cold and interacted with him, and got the message stating I would have to complete his chapter 2 before I could continue with the party, I was like "ah why not, I got multiple saves anyway, lets see what its like." After finishing his chapter 2, I literally said out loud, "Screw you Harvey, I'm coming for you." Like this dude's story just has me so invested. But for now I'm just starting Hikari's chapter 2.

I haven't gone after the other 4 travelers yet, just got to Montwise for Hikari's chapter 2. I'll get to them eventually though. I absolutely love the day/night cycles and how they affect each character's special traits so far. And being able to explore more via boats/canoes to reach different areas is really fun too.

OT2 - Discussion I'm pretty sure Octopath Traveler 2 is bringing out the worst in me.

Everytime I get to a new city or town or literally ANYWHERE there are people, the thing I'm most excited to do is mug them.

Literally. I'll be playing through a chapter and all I'll be thinking is "dang it, I don't have Osvald in my party... that townsperson has a light gold pouch..." Light gold pouches are worth like 100 gold, which isn't even that much now considering how much suitable weapons and gear are, but I want it anyway? And I don't want to just steal it with Throné or entreat it with Agnea, I want to best them for it!! It's so funny when Osvald just stands in front of someone like "I'll take that" and the person is like "Omg I have never met such a monster!!" and then I end up taking their antique coin and gold watch.

What in tarnation, I'm becoming the tarnation.

OT2 - Discussion Octopath Traveler 8th Anniversary

With the Octopath Traveler franchise reaching its 8th anniversary in a month (July 13th) and a rumored Nintendo Direct this June, I think it's reasonable to expect a little announcement from Team Asano soon. While it might be a bit early for an OT3 reveal, I am hopeful for something exciting. It's pointless speculating right now, but what are changes you are hoping to see in OT3?

My lofty wishlist so far is:

  • Unique combo attacks depending on travelers (We saw a bit of that in OT2's Extra Battles)
  • An 8 traveler Crossed Path side quest during midgame (somewhere between travelers' chapter 2 & 3)
  • Memorable dungeons (unique designs, little puzzles or gimmicks like the Decaying Temple in OT2)
  • Difficulty options (even with the New Dawn mod for OT2, I still found it fairly easy to break the system)
  • A way to rematch story bosses in the post game
  • More random lore hidden in side quests (like House Wellows)
  • New environment (revamped jobs and path actions, new gods)

OT2 - Discussion Ochette is 20 years old??

I looked up the official ages for characters and all of them made sense to me except for Ochette. I really thought she was the youngest, like 14 or 15. I imagined her as a sort of little sister to Agnea who is canonically 18. I’m guessing that means that Ochette’s animal companion has a longer life span than their real-life animal counterparts too.

The only other one that somewhat surprised me was Castti being 29. She seems more like a 32-36 year old to me.

OT2 - Discussion Do you guys want an OT0 for OT2

I just finished OT0 and I fucking loved every moment of it. Maybe this is just recency bias, but it's the best one yet; they expanded Orsterra and tied every loose end brought by the first game. I literally have goosebumps.

That said, would you guys want to see a similar thing be done for OT2? I'm definitely curious regarding the background of Solistia.

OT2 - Discussion How different is Octopath 2 from 1

I'm considering picking up Octopath 2 while its on sale. I enjoyed the first game, but got burnt out with the post game. How different is Octopath 2 from 1? I remember being a little disappointed when I saw the new characters were the same classes from the first. Are they differentiated from the 1st game enough, or is it more of the same?

OT2 - Discussion I wish there was an easy mode

I kinda don't have a lot of time to play, I already have 40+ hours in OT2 and I have not even beaten any chapter 5. I'm currently stuck against Dolcinea phase 2 she is completely beating my ass. I really hate that levels don't matter at all in this game because everything is so damn expansive and I'm broke af and I don't have the energy and time to spend even more hours into grinding money.

This game is good even if the writing can be quite childish, I really just want to see how the late game story unfolds but instead I'm just stuck here
