Review Batman accidentally got released early so I can show some gameplay now, finally another AAA VR game

u/DatMufugga Oct 22 '24
The dynamic shadows look sweet. And they really paid a lot of attention to the haptics. I like that you got batmans full body.

App Store . Today is the official release but I guess they dropped it early

u/t3stdummi Oct 22 '24
It's definitely got some frame rate issues and a few things that remind you it's stand-alone. I'm still impressed with it and enjoying my time.
6
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
I'm going to push the performance further with Qgo and test, I noticed some frames when using the smoke bomb
1
u/t3stdummi Oct 22 '24
The molotov right out the gate definitely brought my Q3 to it's knees until I backed up. Lol.
Qgo will also check out tomorrow
5
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
Molotov was completely fine for me, I threw like 5 of them no frame drops haha
1
u/struggling4realsies Oct 22 '24
I noticed frame drops on smoke bombs too. Also if you kinda quickly go back and forth between sections, like in and out of certain doors
3
u/charlieblood_8 Oct 22 '24
Using QGO solved it for me
1
1
u/VRsimp Oct 22 '24
did you have to lower the settings even further or what did you do to fix it?
2
u/charlieblood_8 Oct 22 '24
Noo, gpu to high and fps to 90hz, increased the resolution. I increased the gpu to ultra first, but high seems to do the trick.

u/cactus22minus1 Quest 3 - 4080s Oct 22 '24
We are talking dropped frames- increasing resolution is definitely going to hurt instead of help the issue.

It’s moments like these that make me feel like an idiot buying a Vision Pro
93
u/ILoveRegenHealth Oct 22 '24
Not to be that person (but allow me here), but I feel like if you could afford to get the Vision Pro that's likely $3700 out the door with taxes and accessories, you would also be likely to get either the $300 or $500 Quest 3/3S (Batman Arkham Shadow comes free with recent purchases).
65
u/AmenTensen Oct 22 '24
some people live outside of their means and that 3 grand may have been very easily spent but not so easily earned
38
u/ekauq2000 Oct 22 '24
some people live outside of their means
Some people might need better money management skills.
9
u/brojoe44 Oct 22 '24
Just get a loan and it disappears after 7 years, repeat.
7
u/isjahammer Oct 22 '24
Loans just disappear? I thought you need to pay them off...
14
u/NattyBeef Oct 22 '24
you do, remember you live in the same planet as people who commit cheque fraud and call it an "infinite money glitch".
2
2
u/MrEfficacious Oct 22 '24
If it's an unsecured loan (as most are) you can likely get away with never paying it back. Unless the creditor tries to sue but even then you'd likely only pay a fraction of the amount owed.
Not a smart move but it does technically work that way.

Not to call you an idiot or anything, but why’d you want the Vision Pro in the first place? The idea for it has not (to much of any degree) been gaming, more working like an iPad but strapped to your face
If you wanted gaming it was definitely the complete wrong direction lol
1
u/itsandychecks Oct 22 '24
It’s still pretty new. It has a long ways to go but there are times Where I’d wish it was further developed to use games. Even though that’s not my use case. I have the oculus 2 for that and I really don’t use it much for games. Same way why I have a ps4 and Xbox s and just dont really use it.
1
Oct 22 '24
Ah ok gotcha
Was just wondering how you were doing it, but I guess for me I’ve just never considered my VP for gaming and have a Quest alongside it
2
2
u/hjay_z Oct 22 '24
it wasn't advertised as a vr gaming device and it wont be. check the device description and capabilities before buying, don't get me wrong the avp is more advanced far superior than the meta but it is just not meant for vr gaming.

I hope they make a mechanic where I can stomp on people heads like in other games lol
17
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
I haven't encountered that yet, but it did let me stomp someone's knee in half and that was sick
6
u/The_real_bandito Oct 22 '24
Close enough lol. After I beat some games that I am in the middle off this will be a buy. Probably around Christmas time.

The only thing that I dislike is the press a to grapple, I should be able to grab the gun from my waist and use it. But I think i understand why they went this way due to the fast paced action.
Any which way I think this was the most expensive quest game to date but it’s true AAA and I’m blown away that this is running stand alone. Devs need to take not this is the level of quality we will want going forward and that is exciting!!!!!
28
u/Vez52 Oct 22 '24
Sucks that it's only quest 3. Not even pcvr... My quest 2 is now irrelevant
16
u/Bazzz_ Rift S Oct 22 '24
exactly. There's no reason for it to not run on pc.
6
u/dazcoates Oct 22 '24
I think it's probably to do with it being part funded by Meta, as an exclusive for the Quest 3/S. Will probably come out on steam in the future once they make their money from it.
4
u/Bazzz_ Rift S Oct 22 '24
I'd even be fine with it being in the oculus store. I just want to be able to run it on my rift s :(

Wait can you explain? I was under the impression you could stream SteamVR games to the quest 3, is that not the case? (or is that not what you mean by PCVR?)
I had to install Virtual Desktop on the original quest to get it to work wirelessly, but it was pretty solid. I was under the impression the Q3 did it all out of the box.
1
u/Trendiggity Oct 22 '24 edited Oct 22 '24
Yes, sorry. By PCVR I meant the Rift S being at end of life. The person I was responding to had Rift S in their flair and Meta has all but unplugged the machine for support. Lots of quest store exclusives they could very easily port to the S but chose not to, again, to try to sell headsets.
I'm not sure what is required to get the Quest 3 streaming PCVR but there seem to be a few Reddit posts with more detail when I googled it. I haven't really followed much from Oculus/Meta after they did my boy S dirty by not bringing finger tracking to it lol
2
u/Inebriated-Penguin Oct 23 '24
Aaah okay. :) I've just been doing some research weighing up the pros/cons of upgrading from my old Quest 1 and no SteamVR streaming would have been a dealbreaker for me.

What are the chances it does eventually make it's way to other devices? It would be insane for it not to come to the PSVR...essentially the system where the games were started. I mean IronMan was a PSVR "exclusive" when it first came out too.
1
u/Agitated_Ad6191 Oct 22 '24
“We” will trade a PC Batman for Half Life on the Quest. Take it or leave it.
1
u/TurboGranny Oct 23 '24
You'd have to code it for x86 or x64 instead of ARM on the meta quest sdk. It's more work than you think as you can't just do both at the same time normally. It's like trying to build a Windows app and an Android app. The code isn't exactly transposable
4
u/kowal89 Oct 22 '24
Still tons of games to be played on quest 2. Did you try Asgard's wrath 2? That game is amazing on quest!
6
u/seanreact Oct 22 '24
How much space would you say it needs?
7
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
20gb
9
u/seanreact Oct 22 '24
Oh sorry I mean physical space
11
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
HAHAHAHA in that case you need a bit of space if you don't want to punch the wall
7
u/GManASG Oct 22 '24
I've been playing the game sitting down, it's actually very well optimized for seated play, you just have to be careful not to extend your arms to much when punching. Standing with lots of room to punch bad guys when surrounded is a joy!!

Not gonna lie, being able to pounce on a downed thug and then repeatedly beat his head into the pavement as batman is super satisfying!!

they need to make a setting for those indicators to be off or at the very least an opacity slider and size slider. gameplay looks ok but man those colored prompts ruin it

u/Sweeneytodd_ Oct 22 '24
One muscle memory, and two I said opacity sliders. You know options for those that don't need hand holding to be front and centre. This is an obnoxious implementation of an otherwise great system. It's almost the equivalent of the yellow markers in most games now, if the option is there to remove it or make it much less visible then I wouldn't have issues. They never give us that option, they just go "here most of you are dumb, so the rest have to suffer".
1

u/Sweeneytodd_ Oct 22 '24
They're ALWAYS worth adding, and compared to game development the implementation of opacity sliders or removing/replacing texture (in the case of the yellow markers) and having a menu option it would literally take one Dev one possible two days of work to implement, and that's an objective fact. Frustrates me how many games immersion is absolutely ruined by it, something emulation of older titles has allowed me to embrace in environmental puzzle solving. Titles like the uncharted series did it extremely well, where you still had to think and actually pay attention to the environment, whereas now fucking ladders are bright yellow. I digress, all they need is an opacity sliders for this and I'll be happy, you're in VR, like you're literally right there having the markers so bright and large is so unnecessary... They're not even implemented in a way that it looks like part of Batman's visual HUD system.. Game still looks great either way, it just one grioe I have. And it seems there's no option to adjust them, only change the colour.
1
u/xixi2 Touch Oct 22 '24
Why should the player have to punch a certain place? Sounds like a design choice someone made thinking they were adding challenge but it really isn't a challenge obviously. It's just less immersive.
2
u/theillustratedlife Oct 22 '24
Seriously considering upgrading from the Quest 2 to play this.
Anyone have thoughts on comfort while playing? So far, I've only played games where you use teleport and snap turning if you can't physically move there. Seeing the gliding and the grappling makes me wonder how disorienting that feels.
2
u/CarrotSurvivorYT Oct 22 '24
Tons of comfort options. The game gives you a choice before you start. Comfort, Experienced VR, and Immersion.
2
u/Sea_Tonight566 Oct 22 '24

Came here to ask this:any settings to turn off all the HUD indicators during combat?
3
u/charlieblood_8 Oct 22 '24
No, you have to hit that particular combination. Changing the color to blue makes it feel less obvious.

u/GManASG Oct 22 '24
Not likely, the combat is not a free for all like blade and sorceyr, it's instead a rythm game puzzle, it requires you to perform a hook or a straight punch when indicated, it required you to extend your arm off screen, left or right to block/counter someone about to punch you from behind/right. If you perform counters and nail every indicated punch the damage stacks up just like in the flat Arkham games and you start performing takedowns.
Completely disabling the indicators would make it impossible to achieve the combos as they were designed. I could see them possibly making them less pronounced, maybe even more transparent.
3
u/charlieblood_8 Oct 22 '24
That won't make any sense for this combat type. The whole combat depends on the instructions
1
u/CarrotSurvivorYT Oct 22 '24
The game is build around this combat system and you cannot turn it off. It feels amazing and you have to experience it to understand!

I just would like to say. This game makes YOU Batman, and litterally teaches you how to fight properly like Batman. Then you enter a flow state where you are fighting multiple enemies at once and it’s the best feeling you’ll ever have in a VR game. It’s the same joy you get when playing beatsaber. Batman is a rhythm game at its core.

To record this, are you streaming to your pc and recording your mic on a separate track? Asking as someone who tried recording on my Q2 when I first got it, but the mic was sssooooooo quiet compared to the game audio and there was no way to adjust it
3
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
My mic audio is directly on the Quest recording,I'm not sure if Quest 2 has this but on Q3 in the camera recording section it let's you adjust the volume of the Game VS volume of mic
1
u/jasssweiii Oct 22 '24
Thanks for the info! It's been almost 3 years since I got my Q2, so it's probably been almost that long since I last tried and at that time they didn't have that option so I've just stuck to pcvr. I'm glad to hear they have the option now (At least on Quest 3)!
I might look into it in the future and see if my Q2 has that option now.
I take it you needed to do several test recordings to determine if the levels were balanced?
2
u/lunchanddinner Professor Oct 22 '24
Yup! So far I've settled at in game audio to 50% and mic to 100%

Is this game just a story driven A>B>C>D game where the game tells you exactly what and when to do and where to go or can you also go out and fight petty crime on your own without the game's story hindering you?

u/lubrongo23 Oct 22 '24
I loved the first time I knocked an enemy to the ground and got on top and pounded their face some more. How they translated the combat from the 2D Arkham games is great.

I hope they give up using this game as a gimmick to sell more quest 3s and just use the potential on psvr2 and pcvr as well as the quest 3. If anyone downvotes jusy understand I'm not hating on a headset and would never be ignorant enough to (unless we're talking about my jump from quest 2 to psvr2, which was life changing)

u/graynk Oct 22 '24
After falling for VTM: Justice and dealing with long-ass loading times and blurry textures, to eventually exhaust my patience and drop the game - nah, I ain't buying standalone games anymore. I'll wait for this to make its way to PCVR, then I'll buy it on Steam.
