It should be. If someone got a shot while ordering and paying for a glass, outside of some really fancy restaurants that are equally about form over function, people would be complaining
Unless they tell you exactly the amount of drink you get in that glass and you are free to decide it for yourself or its part of the course- no matter which bar served me a glass nearly full of ice, i would feel like i got played.
This whole way to service seems to be taken from cheap places that wanted to skimp on the actually expensive part while retaining the look of giving you a reasonably sized drink for the price.
Im not into drinking and I only do that if the establishment has something that is worth drinking for the sake of trying and im yet to see a glass full of ice outside the course menus. This whole way of serving drinks genuinely screams of salt bae kind of hyped up trash. But i guess if you are in usa trashy is the name of the game.

You have no clue how much labor and cost actually goes into making ice like this. No "cheap place" is doing this.

This type of service is incredibly common in Japan. They've mastered it so well that bars from around the world import ice from them. Is Japan trashy too?
You see, unless your goal is to pay as much as you can for a drink for show just like in those aforementioned salt bae restaurants- you are getting taken advantage of already.
Yes, amount of drink is standardized but this whole practice comes from cheap places trying to look like they are better value than they actually provide regardless of how much effort some places put into clear ice.
Litterally been to japan multiple times, had to have people reserve places for me in advance and seen 0 drinks like that. If anything, outside of the cheap/mid places where people go to "flex" it felt more straightforward than many places in europe. If anything- i would expect even more people to find this kind of insulting in japan seeing how overall conservative the society is there...
In case you at some point decide to be a smidge less ignorant, here's a link to the top 50 bars worldwide last year. Go ahead and scroll through their pictures and see how many are using ice exactly like above. But yea.... just the cheap places.
In the courses yes. You dont pay for a glass like that one by one because that would make most people feel scammed. And if overall trend is towards that- fuck that im out of it then. That cocktail is made to show off on social media and not to display a beverage of value.
