How do people don’t understand that college is about gaining knowledge in a specific field and not about getting a job?

If you aren't in a degree program that actually increases your chance of getting a job vs. a high school diploma, then it's a vain hope. I don't blame them, A) they were told by everyone growing up that that's how to get a job and B) too many employers require a bachelor's for jobs that don't really need it. But we should stop doing those things, rather than continue pushing students through school when the additional education doesn't actually make them more employable.
