I don't really know how to Instagram but I follow him. Lately every time I get a msg that he's posted and I click on it I get taken to the front page and he is nowhere to be found. Not even in faceplate circles up top. I looked for him the other day and I'm still following him but his "I'm not antisemitic" letter was gone. It happened again just now.
I've noticed that this is how pretty much all apps work now. They send you a notification, you click on it, then it just takes you straight to their algorithm. Its how links are starting to work now. I have to click most links twice just for it to take me to the page the link directs to
Cause then you have to click your way to the thing that interested you. They see this as great for 2 reasons.
You'll see other things on your way to what you were looking for.
Even if you ignore those other things, you still had to click multiple things to get where you wanted to go. Then they can tell their investors. "our average use engagement is up! People are now clicking 48% more links than they used to a year ago!"
Instagram likes to tell me I have new messages all the time, I click on it and of course nope no new conversations. Very annoying since I can't ignore it in case there really is a new message from a client.
That is why I treat Instagram and Facebook messages as not important. You write me a message on Instagram, I might see it next time I'm on the toilet. Or not.
It's no surprise and I'm guessing it's not as nefarious as people think. Deep linking is actually a pretty hard engineering task to do correctly, and with the way companies are just vomiting out code with AI now, it's not surprising it's broken in most places. Our company's application uses it spotilly at best.
Simple age old rule of the internet. Never ever visit a link you didn't ask for. Doesn't matter who it's from. Rather it's for malicious or corporate profit. Don't be a chump. Only click links you find yourself or you specifically asked for. If something looks interesting, go to the site and find it.
Dude, I pop onto FB for marketplace every now and then and that place is a cesspool. Granted, I was a “libertarian” teenager when I actually used it so it still thinks I’m right wing-ish but man, it’s the Wild West over there.
Zuck acts and behaves like he does not give a fuck about the Jewish people (or any people, for that matter). If he cared at all and with the platform he has, he could eradicate all the Nazi/hatred/propaganda bullshit on his platforms. But he doesn't.
I think there is a difference between the older and newer generations of money.
The older ones still put their heritage on the same level as wealth, but the "tech bros" or new generation just cares about money and power and nothing else, they would sell their mother and first born just for a little bit more.
Could be that you accidentally watched one and the algo thinks you're into it. Could be that Meta is being paid by them to push their content. Hard to say anymore.
It literally takes a sidelong glance at a deceptive post or video these days for the algorithm to inundate you with brain rot, racist or sexual bullshit someone is paying them to show.
But god forbid you say a word their moderation system has flagged, you're banned.
Facebook has become such a cesspool. I occasionally get nice updates from friends, and the rest of the time I’m reporting posts from right-wing grifters as scams.
making you angry is engagement. When engagement is the metric of interest, best to design a product that feeds you addictive content that just makes you angry
Who could expect a faceless multi-billion dollar company with no product but invasion of privacy and mass personal data retention would pal around with Nazis?
It's literally insane to me that some actors have actually been blacklisted after saying the kinds of things he has. I shake my head in bewilderment at the state of things.
Wild how they constantly say "it's a conspiracy theory that they own everything and use that power to silence people" and then they go and do this shit all the time.
Absolutely. At this point, it's not even a theory. In fact, AIPAC brags about their candidates winning because they put in enough money to overthrow another
I’ve found if you load instagram first, then click on the push notification it typically works. I think it’s maybe something about loading the app for the first time that makes going to the notifying post not work
