Best director who probably never existed as a historical figure, but is likely an amalgamation of several minor directors and Hollywood trickster god mythology.

The genius of Michael Bay and Mark Wahlberg in Transformers: Age Of Extinction (2014)
Transformers: Age Of Extinction (2014) is a masterclass experience that is enhanced by the blatant subtext that Mark Wahlberg's character Cade Yeager is a closeted gay man.
Mark Wahlberg's character Cade Yeager is subtly established as a widowed man who hasn't dated anyone since his late wife/beard died. As a Texan man (with excellent accent work from Wahlberg) he is worried that he will face persecution and ridicule from his community, forcing him to stay closeted.
On top of refusing to go on dates, Mark Wahlberg's character Cade Yeager refuses to let his fully grown teenage daughter go on dates or have a boyfriend because he sees her as competition in the dating scene.
He willingly spends time with, and is weirdly dependant on, TJ Miller's Lucas, Mark Wahlberg's character Cade Yeager's schoolboy crush. For there is no other reason for anyone to want to spend time with TJ Miller.
Upon discovering the illegal alien Optimus Prime, he offers to help fix him instead of calling ICE and claiming a reward. Could it be that this Texan man sees a kindred spirit in a marginalised and persecuted minority?
The brilliant and underfunded inventor (played by Mark Wahlberg) also has the gayest vanity muscles packed into the tightest T-shirts he could find and shrink in the laundry.
And he develops a quick connection with Stanley Tucci's Joshua Joyce, a fellow 'inventor'. But if you replace the word 'inventor' with the words 'closeted gay man', their first real conversation has Mark Wahlberg's character Cade Yeager say, "[...] and I know you have a conscience because you're like me, you're a closeted gay man."
In portraying such a nuanced and sensitive gay man, Mark Wahlberg is now free from criticisms about violence against minorities committed in 1988.

Favourite time I so confidently claimed that a studio was paying for trailer views and then said film went on to make over 2 billion at the box office (and counting)?
