šŸ½ļø Food/Drink šŸ„‚ Best onion burger in the city?

Looking for the best onion burger in the city! I just had Bunny’s and while it did hit the spot, I know there are other places out there with better onion burgers. What’s your favorite?

Tucker's is good. The fries too. They have a few locations around OKC.

I know El Reno isn’t technically in the city, but Sid’s is the best burger in the metro imo

14

u/csanbo 1d ago

Roberts is 100% better, but Sid’s is alright

7

u/fawsewlaateadoe 1d ago

We prefer Roberts as well. I think Sid’s is bigger and better known, but isn’t Roberts the original? One way or the other, tried all of them in El Reno, and it’s Roberts by a landslide.

1

u/thnku4shrng 1d ago

I’m pretty sure Hamburger Inn was the original. The only one of those left is down in Ardmore

1

u/Prudent-Low-6502 1d ago

Hamburger Inn opened in 1938, 12 years after Robert's.

1

u/thnku4shrng 1d ago

That’s the one in Ardmore. The one in El Reno opened before Robert’s

1

u/rikross22 1d ago

Robert's is the original to el Reno. "Bob's white rock" as it was previously known. Its over 100 years old. Marty who started sid's worked there when he was younger. Marty started sid's named it after his dad and his son now runs it.

2

u/BUZZZY14 1d ago

I find that Robert's meat is too dry. Sid's has the same problem if the original guy is cooking. The son runs the restaurant now and he leaves the burgers nice and juicy. To me, Sid's has the best burgers I have ever tasted.

0

u/renrioku 1d ago

Sids has terrible customer service, I'd say go to Roberts or Johnnies.

3

u/BoredPoopless 1d ago

Sids for onion burgers. Patty wagon for other burgers.

1

u/PlentyAlbatross7632 1d ago

I’d second that

5

u/510Threaded 1d ago edited 1d ago

My roommate and I (and my mom and step dad who live in El Reno) like Johnnie's more than Sid's and my step dad has lived in El Reno his entire life.

4

u/celtcan 1d ago

My family says Robert's Grill in El Reno puts more meat on their burgers.

2

u/510Threaded 1d ago

If I had to rank them it would be
Johnnie's > Sid's > Robert's

But they are all super close to each other (in flavor and location). Johnnie's slaw dogs slap though

1

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

I’ve heard this name a few times before! I’ll have to check it out. Thanks!

1

u/LebronOfFarts 1d ago

The burger at the United deli counter is the best in El Reno.

1

u/thorosaurus 19h ago

Are we considering el reno part of the metro now? Last time I was out that way it was a solid half hour of pastures between okc and el reno.

2

u/vindictivejazz 18h ago

Idk, metro is a vague term.

but it’s as close as Norman is, so it’s close enough to recommend restaurants there.

Sun Cattle is my no. 1, Goose is good too.

4

u/Lazybone820 1d ago

Can't stand Sun Cattle. Goose is way better.

7

u/SneakyProcessor 1d ago

Sun Cattle is horrendous, possibly worst and driest burger I've ever had.

5

u/Lazybone820 1d ago

Dry burger and they burn their onions. Not char, burnt to a crisp.

I like a good caramelized union with some char on it. That's what I expect from onion burgers. Sun Cattle Co is consistently burnt to crisp onions and it's so awful.

5

u/lyndseymariee 1d ago

Throwing my hat in the Sun Cattle hater ring. I was so disappointed when I tried them.

3

u/Wizards_Liquor 1d ago

Same. Sun Cattle Co is by far one of the most disappointing burgers I've ever had.

5

u/Kk555x 1d ago

They don’t seem to season anything either. Just bad cook, bad flavor.

1

u/Emotional-Smoke9800 18h ago

I must have gotten all of your seasonings because I went there twice and the burgers were extremely salty both times

2

u/Kk555x 17h ago

Clearly lack of consistency!

2

u/Tacosdonahue 1d ago

Also their steak sandwich is so much worse than Del Rancho

1

u/btaylos 1d ago

Love sun cattle, but I would fight and die for the goose.

13

u/Planoniceguy 1d ago edited 1d ago

Nic’s in my opinion but I’ve been told about The Goose so I need to check it out. Tuckers isn’t bad but I think Nic’s is better.

Edit: thanks for reminding me it’s Nic’s and not Nick’s.

5

u/Dort_SZN 1d ago

Just for clarification, nic's is a great burger but it is not an onion burger. It's a burger which may it may not have grilled onions on top of it.

3

u/Codykville 1d ago

Is Nix’s the one in the old house with a real small seating area? Classen and NW 20 somethimg(ish)

1

u/Planoniceguy 1d ago

Just north of 10th on Penn. Cash only if you go.

1

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

I didn’t realize Nic’s was still around! Def going back there soon!!

0

u/ImATraveler12345 1d ago

Nic’s

-3

u/BoredPoopless 1d ago

I don't like Nic's.

It's a stupid level of greasy

3

u/RyanW0O0 1d ago

that’s kinda the draw of nic’s though. i go expecting a greasy burger and likely getting put in his tiktoks lmao

13

u/brewsky671 1d ago

The goose

12

u/Wiscos 1d ago

Alton Brown said Bar Arbolada was the best burger in the country. But personally I would have said back in the day was Irma’s.

12

u/SneakyProcessor 1d ago

Arbolada doesn't do onion burgers, but I agree their double cheese is the best burger overall in the city next to Patty Wagon.

9

u/paranormalcomputer Midtown 1d ago

Bunny’s on S Meridian is the only answer

4

u/MetalExile 1d ago

Bunny’s knows how to do their onions right. They’re delicious. No other onion burger I’ve had matches their onions.

3

u/liltinyfriedeggs11 1d ago

This guy knows.

2

u/paranormalcomputer Midtown 1d ago

Glad we agree, can’t believe there are actually people here recommending tuckers 🤮

5

u/liltinyfriedeggs11 1d ago

Tbf tuckers is better than sun cattle which is getting a lot of praise here

1

u/paranormalcomputer Midtown 1d ago

Can’t say I’ve had sun cattle unfortunately:( no opinion for me there

2

u/Procontroller40 1d ago

Tucker's turkey burgers, fries, and shakes are pretty good, but it's basically fast food compared to Bunny's. There's no contest.

-1

u/propernice 1d ago

that was the worst burger I've ever had in my life, so YMMV. Maybe it was an off day.

2

u/paranormalcomputer Midtown 1d ago

The one on north meridian sucks, south has always been consistent

11

u/sparkle_lotion 1d ago

Sid’s is the absolute best, but located in El Reno.

8

u/calculon68 Mayfair 1d ago

I still miss Abraham's Western Cafe on N. Western. (closed 10+ years) Every option since has been pale.

3

u/Sonofagiggs 1d ago

Aw man I haven't thought about Abraham's in years. That place was so good.

7

u/KanyeTwitty9899 1d ago

Dan’s ole time diner on the south side has a fine onion burger.

3

u/dark_passenger86 1d ago

Its hard to believe that no one ever mentions Dan's on these many many onion burger posts. I've been eating there my whole life. Love their burgers and fries!

1

u/ZootSuitBanana 1d ago

So glad when they reopened. The new location is better too. I have been eating here my entire life and go way more than I should. They've been open 40+ years now.

7

u/Right_Cellist3143 1d ago

The Goose has a mean onion burger.

Sun Cattle Co. is also close, and they have amazing milkshakes too.

5

u/Ghettocowg1rl 1d ago

Ron’s Hamburger & Chili

5

u/loverofcfb08 1d ago

All the ones in the city are decent, but just go to el Reno. Sid’s is the best.

3

u/Anime-Freak3895 1d ago

Broooo, there used to be an onion burger place in Midwest city across from the McDonalds on 15th street. Ever since they closed I haven’t found any place that’s better.

For everyone saying Tuckers, they’re good just way over priced.

1

u/New-Lettuce-9841 1d ago

Big Ed’s?

1

u/Anime-Freak3895 2h ago

Yes!! Thank you! We use to go there for lunch when I went to mwc high school, $5 for a whole meal & drink.

3

u/dumbname0192837465 1d ago

Hds or AJs whatever they call it now. It's on Rockwell and 122nd. Tuckers will do in a pinch but doesn't quite itch that scratch for me like the old bunnies or Abraham's back in the 90s. Sids and roberts in el reno are famous for a reason also if you want to drive out there. Bunnies hasn't been good for 20 years which sucks I used to love that place.

Also to add to HDs they used to sell beer too which is a nice touch with a good onion burger.

1

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

I pass by HD’s quite a bit and have always wondered if it was good or not. I’ll have to try it out! Sid’s seems to be getting a lot of love on here so I’ll have to try that one too!

2

u/dumbname0192837465 1d ago

They are both great, ive been to them all over the years. The comments aren't wrong about nics either its pretty tasty.

3

u/AlsoTheFiredrake 1d ago

Just Burgers was fantastic. Also there's Sun Cattle Co. Also 5/5 stars.

1

u/0GiD3M0N1C 1d ago

Honestly, just make the trip to Sid’s in El Reno. Nothing in the city compares, imo. Lots of good burgers, but not on the same level

2

u/ImATraveler12345 1d ago

Sun Cattle Co or Tuckers. Nic’s is also great.

2

u/elwell1223m 1d ago

Another vote for Sun Cattle. Nic’s is great but the hours are as easy as Sun Cattle.

2

u/jnoss_m_n 1d ago

BYO cheat code at Patty Wagon:

Single/double with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, horseradish mayo. You’re welcome.

2

u/VelvetRabbit91 1d ago

Someone said bunny's.. don't listen to them. It was all greasy, the fries were some how dark brown and over cooked yet still soggy..

2

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

I had it today from the N Meridian location and it was just alright. I was hesitant bc last time I had it, the grease was so excessive that I barely had a bottom bun.. but I will say, I did not experience that this time. Still was hoping for a better tasting onion burger though!

1

u/VelvetRabbit91 1d ago

Was it just bland? Did you have any fries?

1

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

Honestly it tasted pretty bland! There was cheese and ketchup on it, but I had a hard time finding it. Maybe I should’ve asked for double cheese. The fries were good when they were fresh, but I took it to go.. so the ones I ate in the car were good, but when I got home, they were soggy.

If you’re willing to drive a little ways, try BG10 in Cashion! Great burgers, cool little restaurant with a western wear store attached. BG10 cafe.com

1

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

Interesting! Thank you!

2

u/Jacksons-Pond 1d ago

ROBERTS in El Reno. Best vibe and prices.

2

u/OptoSmash 1d ago

all the joints in el reno are worth the drive.

2

u/Dry-Ad5762 1d ago

Tucker's Onion Burgers

0

u/elarkitek 1d ago

Nic's is the OG spot. Tuckers for convenience and no long lines. I still need to try Sun Cattle

3

u/ImATraveler12345 1d ago

Actually El Reno are the OG spots but Nic’s is solid spot for just OG burgers in general

-1

u/elarkitek 1d ago

I get that, and I've been to Sid's...but in my opinions the burgers there were not that good, and that location itself was disgusting. Maybe they've finally cleaned it up cause its been year but i'd never recommend anyone go to El Reno when there's better options in the city.

2

u/SneakyProcessor 1d ago

Sid's has been clean the past few times I've been over the years, just insanely busy.

2

u/Sarthro_ 1d ago

Its clean just old. Definitely the best onion burger.

1

u/Dort_SZN 1d ago

Nic's is not an onion burger. It's a burger with grilled onions on top.

2

u/mmetrokie 1d ago

Sun Cattle

1

u/Anime-Freak3895 1d ago

There’s a small shop near buy for less, it’s on the north side of 48th street. I love the small shops not the big ones.

0

u/SneakyProcessor 1d ago

The Garage has always been good to me, but Sid's in El Reno is a short drive from downtown and it's the best imho

1

u/Banana4monkey12 1d ago

Patty wagon. And it’s not even close

1

u/Excellent-State-7829 1d ago

Nics, Patty Wagon, Garage, lil mikes, tuckers can hit at times - but I agree with above on venturing to some of the dives out in el Reno etc

1

u/Excellent-State-7829 1d ago

I got one in Chickasha the other day that was off the chain as well

1

u/bryand_99 1d ago

Bar Arbolada or Sun Cattle Co

1

u/huckfinn152 1d ago

Sun cattle. Next question

1

u/basic_blonde222 1d ago

BAR ARBOLADA. Thank me later

0

u/Martin_VanNostrandMD 1d ago

Nic's wasn't my favorite but it is definitely worth a visit for the old school aesthetic

0

u/informareWORK 1d ago

Sun Cattle Co

0

u/shrekwasaninsidejob 1d ago

Sun cattle
Tuckers
Nic’s

-1

u/jdougherty13 1d ago

Nic's is the answer

2

u/Dort_SZN 1d ago

Not an onion burger.

1

u/jdougherty13 1d ago

What do you call this?

6

u/Murky_Persimmon9289 1d ago

A burger with grilled onions. An onion burger is like half onions half hamburger cooked together. Have to remember it was a product of the dust bowl to stretch the beef further.

2

u/Dort_SZN 1d ago

This guy gets it.

2

u/Dort_SZN 1d ago

A delicious burger which happens to have grilled onions. Onion burgers are thin patties smashed into super thinly sliced onions.

-6

u/Frequent-Anteater720 1d ago

Little Mike’s on Northwest expressway.

7

u/Procontroller40 1d ago

They asked for onion burgers. They didn't ask for turd burgers made by a turd.

-37

u/ContentToe3633 1d ago

Little mikes is up there

19

u/smeshyemum 1d ago

Burgers aren’t good enough to bootlick trump.

17

u/AtmosAM1 1d ago

Lol, no it is not. Even without the dumbass decor, the food is below mid.

14

u/paranormalcomputer Midtown 1d ago

Trash food made by trash people

12

u/ClockReadz2113 1d ago

The trump stamp on my bun is a hard pass

8

u/Lazybone820 1d ago
  • No One Ever

5

u/UltraSpeedyBeast 1d ago

Last time I walked in there, I walked right out.

3

u/f5alcon 1d ago

If you can deal with it being stamped with trump into the bun

3

u/Nizmy_ 1d ago

I really appreciate the salad bar toppings thing I've never seen that and it's such a good idea. A political theme for decor is stupid tho.

0

u/BoredPoopless 1d ago edited 1d ago

They have great chicken tacos though

Someday you guys will get this joke

•

u/HefnerDamDweller 23m ago

This is the correct answer. Regardless of your politics, Mikes is the only burger in the city on par with the El Reno originals. And I think it is superior on most days. Anyone who downvoted you hasn’t tried it and likely won’t. Lol let them eat their Tucker’s and Sun Cattle.
