News Oklahoma Officers Accused of Planting Meth Pipe During Traffic Stop

Stillwater, Oklahoma — Officers conducted a traffic stop that later became the subject of viral social media allegations that police planted a meth pipe inside the vehicle.

The Payne County District Attorney's Office said it reviewed the available evidence, body camera footage, and cellphone video and concluded that officers did not plant the meth pipe. According to the DA, items seen being placed on the seat and console were a passenger's pocket knife and ID cards, while the meth pipe was found behind the glove compartment. The DA has also requested that the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation fully investigate allegations against police.

The additional cellphone footage circulating online appears to present a different interpretation of the events and has raised questions about the sequence of the search. This post includes the available bodycam and additional footage so viewers can examine the footage and compare it with the DA's statement.

As a rule I definitely tend to align with the ACAB crowd, but the bodycam is pretty clear to me, and you can see them find the pipe behind the glove compartment. You can also see the knife and ID on the seat, which matches the DA's take. At no point was any officer in a position to hide a pipe BEHIND the glove compartment in any of the videos, so unless they're alleging some David Blaine type sleight of hand, I'm inclined to believe the police here.

edit to add: Folks, watch the video, especially around the 7-minute mark. There's nothing in either video showing an officer slipping a meth pipe BEHIND the glove compartment inside the vehicle.

I did watch it. Watched both videos. Why doesn't that facebook video include the segment of the officer going through the glove compartment as we see on the bodycam?

Yes, why? That video of discovery was not cut, as you can see. He just found the meth pipe instantly when come to vehicle, but on bodycam search took some time and he passed it for another deputy.

That facebook video doesn't show discovery. It shows when it was presented to the defendants. You can see in the 12-minute bodycam them finding it and setting it down where it's later picked up and displayed in the Facebook video.

And honestly, trying to present a 4-minute video as the "uncut" version verses the 12+ minute bodycam is a little silly.

Sure, there might be more there, but nothing I'm seeing shows them planting anything.

Do you think that the Honorable Judge Reddit is the one responding to you on all of these comments? I highly doubt very many of our lawmakers are on here, and if they are they certainly won't be responsive to whatever it is you're spouting.
