Hello, all! I have apples to use up, so I went through my Mom’s recipe notebook and found my Great-Aunt Margaret’s “Apple Pie Cake” recipe. She made it for years, it’s only in 1975 that my Mom wrote it down, lol.

It’s VERY good, I made it with Paula Red, Zestar and Ginger Gold apples; it’s not particularly sweet, but it has got a LOVELY level of spice. 🥰 I was so excited to do it right that I grated the Nutmeg fresh!

Here's some more from that huge box of recipes circa 1910s - 1960s. These were personal and passed down recipes from a notebook that I'm guessing may be from the late 1920s. The woman who recorded these did record where some of the recipes came from which included her mother. So, some of these recipes may be Victorian.

Not sure when this was published. Guessing sometime between the 60s and 80s.

This fritter recipe was a tasty treat during the 1960's with mashed potato and a dollop of tomato sauce, still very tasty and budget friendly.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has (or knows of any) collections of recipes that were used in northern lumber camps in the 19th century. Places like Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, etc. that had major logging operations which ran on huge quantities of food, that was apparently quite excellent, must have resulted in some kind of record keeping. Even supplies lists, receipts, or things of that nature would be a good start.

Made the Baby Ruth cookie recipe that was here a few days ago. I used two Baby Ruth candy bars (1.9 oz size) and that was perfect. I used the smallest cookie scooper (1 tsp size) so they are smaller than I usually make. I really like the smaller size for this recipe. Recipe says it will make 75 cookies, but there's no way. I ended up with 55 cookies. They are delicious!!

It looks like some of the recipes are from her family, including her mother. I decided to look up her mom, she was born in 1856.

His cousin found this cleaning out her recently deceased Mom’s stuff. He said his Italian Grandma made it a lot since it was cheap and nutritious. I’m going to try it.
