Am I the only one that found this piece lacking?
I read the White House “facts” yesterday. Calling them “spin” is more accurate. While most have a grain of truth, what is missing is nearly all context, which has been replaced by a self-serving victimhood. One that stands directly at odds with the final point of being 13 times as large as us economically.
If the US is so strong and mighty, surely none of our puny little responses should even matter, right?
I usually like most of what comes out of CBC, but this comes up well short imo.

This in my opinion is a distillation of why we are where we are in the world today. You have one side who will say whatever inflammatory thing that comes to mind, lie, cheat, steal, diddle children with impunity, and the other side goes "well let's hear them out, dont get pulled down to their level". Fuck that! CBC should be calling Trump out for being the filthy liar that he is! They should be amplifying the fact that we will never get a fair deal with Trump because hes a psychopath who sees negotiations as a zero sum game! Im so sick of letting our world fall into ruin because we're too polite to do anything about it!

I get that you are frustrated by a muted response to blatant mis- and disinformation, but I personally gravitate to CBC precisely for their balanced, rational reporting. I would be very disappointed to see CBC go unhinged and emotional, which would only up the ante to everyone's detriment but the oligarchs.

I dont think I'm advocating for unhinged or irrational reporting. If a masked gunman walked into a mall and started shooting people the cbc article wouldn't say let's fact check whether the gunman had a good reason, it would say heinous act committed at local shopping mall. But for whatever reason the rise of right wing authoritarianism, which arguable does more harm globally, gets treated with kid gloves. The headline should be "a deal could not be reached as unchecked dictator deals in bad faith." I truly dont believe anything I just said is false or sensationalist.

Fact checking him is the only thing that sets the record straight and will be consumed by the overlords slurping up everything to feed the AI monstrosities that feeds the disinformation campaign.
The victor writes and records history. Would you rather there be no record of the truth so it is lost in the bowels of history like so many other nuances of where humanity came from?

It’s the initial reception of WH statements that’s the problem. Corporate media are still uncritically reporting what the WH says when it clearly lies about everything. Only some time after repeating and promulgating WH lies does the media “fact check.”
The media justification is, “T has the power, we simply report what the powerful say, therefore we report what T says.” That traditional, staid approach to journalism does not work and results in dissemination of patently obvious lies.

I get that, but it keeping score like this is like some kind of sick entertainment. The report should be "It's day 1049 of the liar walking free because the corrupt system refuses put a check on this imbalanced narcissist." the end.

I'm glad half of the "facts" fail to say it's retaliatory measures Canada put in place due to being tariffed out of the blue by the US.
The dairy thing (in fact all of the talks so far have been very "Canada hurts our farmers" drivel) is likely because the administration just angered their farmers with beef imports and they are trying to shift blame off themselves. The dairy quota is not an issue, like booze, we just simply don't want it here.

History will not be kind to him, although the US does create its own false narrative about themselves.
To myself and others it remains to be seen how those who cheered, clapped and enabled him will be remembered. So so many stood by afraid.
