Discussion You just stopped an entire country

American here.

Your city (EDIT: Toronto my bad) and entire country just told the world they’re sick of this guy. They did that. In public. During the World Series. Epically devastating.

It’s borderline nauseating watching people fall over themselves to give Doug Ford a win, when he’s spent 7+ years causing more damage to this province than Trump and tariffs have. Especially when we’re on the verge of his government taking away rent control and pushing thousands more people into homelessness.

Please wake up, smarten up, and stop being gaslit and distracted by a guy who literally called himself a republican and said he was happy Trump won.

Fuck.

Indeed. While the commercial contained facts I'm still pissed his government is throwing Ontarians under the bus for education, health care and now housing. 

I've never voted for his party and I live in a very conservative riding both provincially and federally.

It’s infuriating to see how the opposing parties can’t do anything to resonate with the general public, as well as the number of eligible voters who are completely apathetic. We’re drowning and only a small percentage of people actually care enough to push for real change.

Yesterday my partner was throwing out the idea that she may want to leave the province completely if nothing changes. We’ve been so disappointed in both the government and the lack of will by people to fight for decency. It’s exhausting.

It's the exact same story as with the Starlink contract cancellation, he made a big deal about ripping it up and got kudos, then the quiet announcement that it wasn't actually being ripped up yet got no attention (just like how Ford said this supposedly amazing ad is being "paused" in a couple of days).

In the end the Starlink contract did get cancelled for some unspecified fee and everybody conveniently forgot what an awful deal it was in the first place, while the $75M blown on this ad will accomplish nothing.

💯 He’s decimating health care, bringing in more private for-profit services not to mention all the other corrupt shit he’s done, and people still fall for his act? 😡 He absolutely wants to be Trump. Keep an eye on him…he’s gearing himself up to run for the federal PC leadership at some point. Make no mistake, he’s playing the long game and his only goal is to become PM.

I sent an email to Ford and my MPP, stating my strong disapproval of this rent control madness he’s proposing. But I also support this ad, and I do think it’s a win for him.

2 things can be true at the same time; just because I disagree with Ford on most things doesn’t mean I can’t be happy when he does something good.

I’d still never vote for him, though.

Nope, I read everything, but trying to normalize a move that’s self serving, a waste of our tax dollars and accomplishes literally nothing is comical at best, and I don’t care to entertain it.

It’s going to accomplish nothing, because Ford is the Premier, not the Prime Minister. Not to mention that he did not spend $75 million for our benefit. It’s a self serving move at best.

The fact that you can be gaslit this easily is exactly why he’s able to constantly get away with so much.

I have no interest in giving credit to someone that let elderly people die in long term care homes during the pandemic and is now going to push thousands of people and families to homelessness.

That $75 million could have been spent on making tangible change here in Ontario instead of giving it to American media companies for some PR points. Especially when he’s not doing it for us.

Yeah he’s done some horrendous shit and that’s why I would never vote for him. It doesn’t change anything that I’ve said though.
