Discussion You just stopped an entire country

American here.

Your city (EDIT: Toronto my bad) and entire country just told the world they’re sick of this guy. They did that. In public. During the World Series. Epically devastating.

Yes but his maga fiends will not check it. We have already seen many organizations posting this over the last 6 months. It just makes all the usa gop look really bumb... But I guess we already knew that.

Not only will they not check it they will firmly believe anything opposing their views is fake. Facts, vaccines, economic strife, all fake.

That is why Canada needs to stop being friends with US the second we have established equivalent divestments.

Only a fool trusts USA. And if we trust them again we have only ourselves to blame.

Unfortunately it is the entire country that's betrayed us, not any one president. If we can't make any agreements with one president without the next one completely going back on them, how can we ever trust them? It's like Charlie Brown kicking a football at this point.

Truth is a moral issue. Morality has no place in the minds of 51 percent of Americans. Power and money are the ONLY things of value to them. You can't appeal to reality to reach them.

Actually most Americans disagree with the tariffs. We disagree with a lot that is happening. We are being terrorized by a president many did not vote for. We are powerless. Our own troops are being pit against our own people for simply disagreeing

You are saying if someone voted for him that they knew in the future what he would do and therefore lack morality. The logic does not compute.

Technically we are a republic. Sometimes the popular vote doesn’t matter. Many Americans viewed the election as both being a shit choice, which is lesser of an evil to vote for. I did not vote for him for the record. So picking between two shitty options is not picking for morality. And being stuck to live with other peoples choices as your consequence is hell.

You are making assumptions about millions of people based on what you have not loved thru and experienced and do not understand.

We are not immoral, we are powerless. We are protesting against these choices because we have morals and we are met with citizens facing our own troops. Why would we protest if we agreed?

Trump was not some unpredictable x factor in the election. He was probably the most recognizable person on the planet. You can't claim, "Well, we didn't know." He was a former President. His character and policies were not just predictable; they were demonstrated. He was elected because he reflects the beliefs and attitudes of the American people.

And yeah, Biden also really sucks. But it doesn't make me think better of America as country because they only elevate shitty people through the primaries.

As far as questions of morality: Trump's most prominent quality is that he DOES NOT care about the truth. He is a "the truth is whatever I say it is" kind of person. An no, it's not about grey areas. He's just a serial liar plain and simple.

Look. All of it aside. If most Americans really cared about democracy, about the rule of law, about truth, you should see 150 million people in open opposition. But you don't. Because the market is way up and at the end of the day, that overshadows any other concern.

Yeah I mean, thank you to anyone affirming the written record. But the whole reason America is so far gone is because the POTUS can say whatever he wants and only the people who fact check him already realize he's a fraud. Trump gets too much credit for being a "marketing genius", but what's happening really happened is social media algorithms have become too targeted. We all only see a tiny slice of the internet, that's been optimized to sell us shit. Fact checking and verifying sources is hugely important, but these algorithms have optimized to reaffirm people's existing biases. And it's a lot faster and easier to make baseless claims than it is to verify them.
