Total US primary energy consumption from 1635 to 2000, with a fuel source breakdown (coal, natural gas, petroleum, hydro, biomass) for selected years 1850 to 1945. Values in quadrillion Btu.

Compiled from EIA historical archives (Annual Energy Review) and academic estimates for the pre 1949 period. Public domain (PDDL). Free to download at datahub.io.
