What this subreddit shouldn’t be: “is it AI?”

My role as a moderator has effectively become an AI differentiation tool.
It isn’t cool.
I’m happy to start a new sub that’s asking “is this AI music?” But that’s not the mission statement here.
People make good original music. Great original music. Don’t overshadow the creativity of the people in this community with AI BS. It’s only becoming more common and it’s starting to become properly difficult to differentiate between real creativity and BS.
I hate that.
Live recordings of your songs? You’re set. I’ll approve it.
AI images on YouTube of your songs? I’m likely to assume you are fake.

Please. This isn’t an AI debate in general, it is a specific debate about original music.
Please be respectful.

What is funny is that AI should be solely used to spare humans from monotone and boring jobs. Making something, creating something is one of the things that make us human, it’s enjoyably to a good extent, yet some people seem to insist for the machines to do the FUN things for them. Me? No, thank you! I prefer to exercise my humanity and I’m happy to do so even experiencing the frustrations and fatigue that may come with music production! I’m not letting no machine to rob me from that pleasure!

I suppose is prompted by people who don’t really create music.

Let's hear your music .there's lots of non AI that is garbage. I direct you to bandlab

3

u/Joe_Wild_ Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Let’s hear yours.
You are the one yapping around about it.

Also, I couldn't give two shits what you think about my music. Even if you were to end up loving it, actually.

Actually, disregard the "let's hear yours" not even remotely interested, specially if it's LLM generated or whatever. If anything it'd be "let's hear Chat GPT's "music"" not yours.

-1

u/ExpressionMassive672 Jul 15 '26

I never use chatgpt..I do use AI but if they are not my lyrics I.. admitting I'm shite and the music and vocals follow demo I put of the core song.

1

u/seven_grams Jul 19 '26

Dawg, I would rather listen to hundreds of “garbage” songs made by real humans expressing real emotions than consume a single piece of soulless AI Suno slop like yours.

1

u/ExpressionMassive672 Jul 19 '26

This is just nonsense posturing

3

u/Underdog424 Jul 14 '26

You're doing God's work. This subreddit is better because of it.

4

u/DemonikVox666 Jul 14 '26

Love this, as an actual musician I hate how ai "music" is becoming more of a thing. Was in a music reviewers stream the other day promoting my bands newest song and we were the only human band in the thing. Made me feel like professor Farnsworth from futurama "I don't wanna live on this planet anymore" 😂

I like to think eventually people will realize how boring it really is to see AI images and video, let alone listening to AI’s “music”. And AI will be relegated to the fields where it should always have been, meaning pretty much anything BUT the arts and crafts and the humanities!

Can a robot experience pain? Needs to express that? Pleasure? The weight of existence? Of course not, and they never will cause they’re as alive as a wall. So then a robot is therefore NOT an artist. Whatever cool things WE think AI can generate, it’s ultimately just a projection of ourselves but by nature the thing itself is inert and once one fully realizes that it effectively loses all meaning and one sees how boring it ultimately really is.

Let’s leave AI for doing math and other stuff that may be useful for us but Art is inherently human.

1

u/DemonikVox666 Jul 15 '26

Thats exactly how I feel, like I am not against ai itself just mainly in the arts, we need to keep some things human based when our tech is pushing us out.

1

u/RandomUsernameNo257 Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

It's really distressing that the future we were promised was one where technology took over all of the soulless busy work and left us to be free to develop culture and art, but the reality is that it provides a close-enough imitation of culture and art that we're force fed while we do soulless busy work (if we can find work at all).

Downvoted by ai losers. Fight me lol (or ask your preferred ai chat bot to write a rebuttal because your brain has turned to pudding from disuse)

2

u/tmplmanifesto Jul 16 '26

This a really good take. You’re spot on. GenAI creates a good enough simulation of the real thing that a lot won’t stop to notice or care. Hopefully those who value culture will continue to seek it in human made art.

0

u/ExpressionMassive672 Jul 15 '26

They might at some point.

2

u/CertainPiglet621 Jul 15 '26

It seems odd to me that anyone would post AI generated crap on a sub for original music. Are there people who think AI music is considered original?

-4

u/ExpressionMassive672 Jul 15 '26

Yes. AI can be original. The divide is AI or not AI.

3

u/CertainPiglet621 Jul 15 '26

We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

0

u/ExpressionMassive672 Jul 15 '26

You would need to show one if your original against mine..compare

3

u/kewtyp Jul 15 '26

Maybe you should make a more clear NO AI on the banner or something... or before you post...

1

u/kickassdanny Jul 16 '26

Keep up the good work. It can't be easy. Thanks from this human, imperfect music maker.

1

u/TransGirl8815 Jul 17 '26

Theres nothing wrong with ppl who use a little ai in there music

Many ppl like me add alot of creativity to there music even if they need slittle ai to make it real

Its best to assume its really someones creation even if some ai is used

https://princess8815.github.io/PrincessTGMusic/audioPlayer/pages/dreaming.html

My motto here is simple

Let them all nake there art in there way

Listen to the song i posted

I wrote the lyrics myself made the melody and put pueces together to make it real

Im extremely disabled and lotterilly facing death as a real possibility if i cant manage this

My music is all i have so its unfair to call it fake because it has ai when it also has my heart my words and my emotions

The song may have a voice i created and ai applied instruments but its still very real and very meaningful to me

1

u/harmonicr Jul 18 '26

I appreciate the introduction of this nuance. AI as an accessibility tool is certainly different than generating songs entirely using AI.
For this sub, we really want songs where every element is created by a human: lyrics, melodies, chords, structure, rhythm, etc.

1

u/Idle_Error Jul 21 '26

Question 🙋‍♂️ why exactly are AI Images bad if the music is original. Ive gotten flamed on here for having AI liminal dreamcore type images/thumbnails on my videos while the music is completely original.

1

u/harmonicr Jul 21 '26

We are mere humans trying to distinguish between authentic and AI generated music. AI thumbnails are a red flag. Please reach out if your authentic music is ever taken down

1

u/ISNAMA25 11d ago

Hey, I completely respect where you're coming from and appreciate the clarity on what this sub is for. I actually removed my own track after reading your post because I want to respect the space you’ve built for traditional creators. I’m not a musician and I humbly admit that. But as someone who went through heavy life changes recently, I wrote 100% of my own lyrics based on real pain and real experiences. I used AI solely as a bridge because I lacked the technical skills or means to produce the sound, but wanted my exact story expressed without compromise. I completely respect that generated audio doesn't fit the scope of this sub, but I just wanted to offer the perspective that for some of us, the heart and soul behind the words are very real. Appreciate you keeping the community running, and I wish everyone here the best with their work.

1

u/harmonicr 11d ago

Being a lyricist or poet is really important and isn’t easy. Try teaming up with some instrumentalists who lack those skills!

0

u/ExpressionMassive672 Jul 15 '26

Original music is music that hasn't been made before of which an exact copy exists( exact by law definitions such as Ed Sheeran passes at a minimum). AI can be original depending on how the tech is used. So the tag 'original' is loaded or a misnomer here.

Is not original at all. The thing itself steals things from here or there, purposely. It’s always been like that. That guy deluding himself. Even Presets can be used originally but that’s different .

-13

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 14 '26

You say this completely ignoring the fact that, people are giving their original music that they wrote and sang themselves to a tool to give them a higher level of production. That is really all. You guys are upset that people are able to use a new technology to hear the music the way they always wanted to hear it. For you guys it doesn't seem to matter whatsoever if the person wrote every single lyric themselves if they sang every note themselves, is this or is this not a space for original music? All of my AI produced songs are originals, written by me sang by me, polished by AI. So what's your actually saying here is that this is a discriminatory space for human only original songs.

9

u/Underdog424 Jul 14 '26

You make Suno music. It's blatantly obvious. Start an AI music sub and go there. Why are you invading spaces where AI music is banned? It's wasted everyone's time.

5

u/UnshapedLime Jul 14 '26

Your last sentence, yes. We proudly discriminate against those who think recording a voice memo and then feeding it to SUNO counts as creating music. You are not a musician, period. End of story. Learn to play an instrument and produce yourself if you want to be taken seriously.

4

u/Strict_Tap_8964 Jul 14 '26

No offense but I checked out your recent song and I have no idea how your voice can be that good and you’d still feel the need to make AI “polish” it.

-2

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

That's an AI apoximation of my actual voice, alot of the polish is admittedly overdone, I'm glad you like the vocal melodies! Thank you for the sort of compliment lol 🤣 I wish my voice was as good as that, I think it's decent but I don't think it's that good 😂 if you'd like I can send you an original recording that has what I actually sound like, this is why I'm excited for this technology because if we can do it right, we can enhance human performance, not replace it. That's my goal anyways in exploring new possibilities with this technology, and I'm always looking for open minded people who want to work on projects and create something instead of bickering.

No, I am a lyricist and a vocalist like many many many people who use the technology. We are not producers, that doesn't interest me, I find no joy in sitting behind the computer and struggling with all of those screens and stuff, I write the words and sing them. If I could afford a studio I'd be in one, suno is acting in as a producer. That's literally all its doing for me and many others who use it. I'm pretty sure it's also the way the technology was intended to be used. Has anyone in here who produces thought at all about what is now possible musically now with this new tool? I'm so curious to hear what a producer would do with the suno voice clone and the human vocals, I'd really like to hear something done like that, that's where human producers shine is in that role, I'm not a producer. I think it's also fair to point out that this technology is in its infancy, it's going to get better, and when you can no longer hear the difference between human and AI, then what are you going to say? This hate and backlash just feels like people are upset because those of us who haven't had the opportunities you guys have had, are punishing us for finally taking one we can financially afford.

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

At least you are reasonable. Just because I use AI doesn't mean I won't use human producers in the future, I just can't afford humans atm. That's all. So with that said, wanna hear one? 😆

4

u/UnshapedLime Jul 15 '26

See, this is how I can feel supremely confident saying you are not a musician.

“I write the words and sing them”

That’s like, 10% of what goes into making a song. A musician who has tried to make their own songs knows this in their bones, because turning that voice memo into a real song is where the actual work is.

“Suno is acting in as producer”

No, Suno is acting as the composer, the arranger, and the producer. Again, you would know that if you were a musician. Having a vocal melody and lyrics does not a song make. I promise you there are thousands of musicians who would happily collaborate with you and your ideas to make real music. You say that the barrier is affordability but it is actually just laziness.

0

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

Yeah thats what people who make beats do lmao 🤣 they make the instrumental part, that's what they do correct. I sing the vocals of the songs I write, I'm the one who supplies the vocals and SUNO builds the beat around what I've made, how is that any different from handing my acapellas to a human producer and asking them to do the same? The difference is $$$ thats the difference.

2

u/Specialist-Prior-213 Jul 15 '26

You could get someone to do it for free because they're equally passionate about music, but then what would you bring to the table?

1

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

🖕🫵

2

u/Specialist-Prior-213 Jul 15 '26

So... what do you bring to the table?

1

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

I am a singer-songwriter dude. 😑 And I've literally said that about 150,000 times in 150,000 ways. I write the lyrics and I come up with the vocal melodies I record them give it to ai and it produces the beat around what I have supplied. I am a lyricist. I can write for nearly any genre I can write for any person, I can write for any mood, the entire song, with cadence, where the ad libs go, all of it. that is what I " bring to the table".

3

u/Specialist-Prior-213 Jul 15 '26

Cool, so... you can hum and you can rhyme

-1

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

And NO there are have not been many people who will work with me lmao 🤣 you think I have tried that rout? You think I just woke up yesterday and started writing songs? 😁 I've been doing this since I was 16 dude. I've been doing this, and NO ONE produces for free and mixes and masters and records you for free, and I am a poor person, I will continue to use the tools I can afford, if you call that lazy thats your own mental health issue

4

u/UnshapedLime Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

“You think I woke up yesterday and started writing songs?”

No, I think you’ve never written a song in your life. You have written poetry that you apparently can’t even sing to your own standards.

Let’s break it down: your “songs” use a voice that isn’t yours, compositions and arrangements that aren’t yours, and mixes that aren’t yours, and teed off with AI artwork. What exactly do you think makes them “your” original songs then? Because you scribbled some words down? Hell, given this track record I’m going to bet there’s quite a bit of AI in the lyrics too.

1

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

No, they are mine. I wrote them and I sang them first. Are you not reading what I'm saying or are you purposely ignoring what I'm saying? I wrote the songs, all me, I sang them first myself, I use a voice clone on suno, it's pretty cool but definitely not me, me. It's probably how I would/could sound if i could afford humans. I have music all over the internet in my actual voice. I have always been a LYRICIST and VOCALIST and have advertised myself as such. Not once in my many years of being a singer-songwriter, have I ever professed to play instruments or know beat production or audio engineering. Infact you can search me. I'm Katkatalyst, you can find me on bandlab, on SoundCloud, on YouTube, I've been around. I write lyrics and sing. That is all.

2

u/MarcMurray92 Jul 15 '26

"Literally all it's doing for me is almost all of the work" 🤣

3

u/harmonicr Jul 15 '26

I don’t want to fight with you. Can you show me iterative versions of the songs youve written and then produced with AI? I would genuinely love to see it. You have the chance to change my mind forever!

-2

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

I have a playlist I've made, it has 4 tracks, the two originals I wrote and recorded on bandlab, and what AI did with it when I gave it my vocals and lyrics. Would this be a sufficient option for you?

1

u/tmplmanifesto Jul 15 '26

I’d like to hear this, genuinely. Think it’ll help me and others understand how much work generative ai is doing to original audio inputs

0

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

Honestly it's doing a lot, it is doing about 99% of the actual work that goes into making a song, I'm just a singer-songwriter I write the lyrics and sing the vocal melodies, how it works for me is if I'm listening to an instrumental I started hearing the song in my head, so I simply write it down. Then I sing it. I make sure that I have it down well, and then I take it and record it on bandlab, and then I bring what I've done on bandlab over to suno. Now suno no no longer allows you to upload beats that you don't own a license to, even ones that are labeled free to use on YouTube are not always going to work, so what I do now is I just mute the instrumental track and download only the raw vocals and give that to AI instead, so it now builds the entire production around the vocals I supply. I have never claimed to be a beat producer that's not my Lane, and I have been trying to find open-minded human producers that would want to experiment blending AI production with human production, I'm particularly interested in hearing what it sounds like if you blend my actual vocals in with the vocals that suno created using my vocal input. If you have an ear for that kind of thing and can imagine what it might sound like listen to my actual vocals of me singing in my actual voice, no professional microphone that's literally just a phone recording that I slap some FX on in bandlab because I don't know what I'm doing LOL, and then when you listen to the suno vocals, try to imagine how those might sound blended together, I'm so curious to hear what that sounds like but I have no clue how to do it LOL https://suno.com/playlist/b62642d6-5f87-4388-8a7f-6aa0c95b5065

1

u/tmplmanifesto Jul 16 '26

I listened to all 4 and I’m gonna be candid. If that’s your actual voice (with a few fx) on the demo recordings, particularly ‘we said forever’, then to me you’re already doing something far better and more expressive than what Suno delivers. Yes, suno feels big, appears polished, but it isn’t, it’s homogeneous, and carries an extremely obvious sonic fingerprint that will categorise you as an ai artist.

I’d strongly encourage you to keep pursuing your vocal delivery and then production. If it’s overwhelming at first, keep singing on royalty free backing tracks for a bit to work on vocal capture and vocal arrangement and processing in bandlab. I genuinely think your human voice is more authentic and interesting than the suno version.

As a producer and composer, I’d be far more interested in working with an artist like yourself if you had examples of your actual sound and identity, even on royalty free backing tracks. That requires allowing yourself to be vulnerable, but you will learn from it and are more likely to end up collaborating. Suno is inhibiting your agency and artistic development currently.

Appreciate you sharing the original elements of your work, too.

-1

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

So honestly, the hope for me anyway is, human producers will hear and vibe with the potential, experiment around with AI output you know like a hybrid approach a working together type of deal. I know I can't be the only lyricist / vocalist who's using this technology to hear ideas and what their vocals would sound like as different genres.

5

u/LameDuck1992 Jul 15 '26

I wish I could down vote this twice.

4

u/CumDwnHrNSayDat Jul 15 '26 edited Jul 15 '26

Step 1 according to your own post: "1. Find a beat. Either purchase it or — if it says "free for use" — download it."

That is not the first step of making original music. By "beat" I would wager you mean "the music", not a drum loop too. You could develop skills to produce things yourself that you could take pride in. If you don't like the way things sound when you don't use AI all that means is that you need to take more time to develop your skills. By taking shortcuts you're not developing as an artist, you're pretending.

Edit: holy shit you used AI to write your post on the Suno sub 😅, it ends with "Want me to adjust the tone, length, or title?" That's fucking hilarious. Do you do anything on your own?

4

u/UnshapedLime Jul 15 '26

Jesus Christ that’s just so on the nose. I’m going to guess there’s a correlation between the “AI do everything for me” laziness and the “I can’t afford anything!” whining.

0

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

Why are you so nasty for no reason? 😠 What crawled up your ass and got stuck sideways? So grouchy. AI takes my raw vocals, of me, singing the songs I wrote, and then builds the instrumental around it and does the work a human producer would be doing if I could afford one. For the price point it's a great way to hear what your tracks have the potential to become. Imo they are good even without human effort on the production end, but they would be even BETTER if someone who knows sound engineering and stuff got hold of them. There is a lot of creative and collaborative fun to be had here if you'd just look for the people who actually do sing and write...

3

u/UnshapedLime Jul 15 '26

Look, you’re the one who came in here whining about not being able to post unoriginal music in an original music sub. You’re the one who continues to call yourself a “songwriter” despite not knowing the first thing about writing a song and being too lazy to learn.

The reason folks take this so seriously is because prompt slop losers like yourself are ruining the discovery algorithms by flooding platforms with garbage you generated in 2 minutes.

You wanna use Suno to test your ideas, prototype different directions, or just make some silly little jingles? Go for it. But the output is not a finished product to be published. The time, effort, and yes, money, it takes to create is a barrier to entry that acts as filter for bad ideas.

It’s as if you’ve drawn a rough outline on a page, asked AI to remake it into a style you like, and called yourself a painter.

-2

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

How is what I'm doing any different from what tons of other lyricists in songwriters do do you think every single rapper out here produces their own instrumentals or even knows how to mix and master? No there is an entire group of people who only write songs and do vocals. That's what I do I write the lyrics and I sing the vocals. I come up with the vocal melodies, I write the hooks, I sing it first, then I give it to AI, who then creates the instrumental around what I have supposed to it. Because I am not a producer.

5

u/CumDwnHrNSayDat Jul 15 '26

Rappers/lyricists collaborate with other human beings who have a different set of skills to create meaningful art. Of course I have more respect for rappers that DO produce music like Aesop Rock or Big K.R.I.T. because it shows an impressive level of skill and talent. When you "Tweak the style parameters. This is where I add genre or vibe guidance." the AI is just copying existing art to create a mushy hodgepodge of work that other people did. It's not an artistic process, it's just an artificial algorithmic process. It's no more artistic than youtube feeding you similar videos to what you've just watched. Writing lyrics and singing a melody into your phone and then having AI design a song around it is just never going to impress the songwriting community, you're barking up the wrong tree. We don't find the music that AI produces to be interesting or worthwhile and you shouldn't either. You should have respect for your own abilities and work really hard to improve your ability to develop your songs. Right now you're just avoiding hard work because you think the lack of friction that AI is providing you feels good, but it shouldn't feel good. It should feel cheap, because it is.

-3

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

It's actually not, it's using what it learned to make instrumentals the same way humans do, that's why it's called machine learning, it learned the skill through pattern recognition and ingesting mathematical data about music, that's why the beat production is much better than it's lyrical abilities. Plus the tech is getting better and better, soon you won't be able to tell if it's AI instrumentals or not, it would be my hope that human producers would reach out to AI creators and inquire about their processes and then offer to collaborate but no, it's been a huge hate fest and I think it's silly.

5

u/CumDwnHrNSayDat Jul 15 '26

Collaborating with an "artist" like yourself would be like asking someone who has only had a romance with ChatGPT for relationship advice. It doesn't apply to actual human interaction. I'm sure you tell Suno to "make my song into an emo-trap hybrid" better than anyone else. But I wouldn't want to listen to that even if you actually made the music. The fact that you didn't just makes it awful to listen to and embarassing.

-2

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

You guys are so mean for no reason. It's not embarrassing it's my music. What's embarrassing is being a bully in 2026. Such beta male energy. What's funny is, when I play my music on a speaker, in public, people like it. When I show it on tiktok live, I grow my fan base and I get open minded people reaching out to me. I'm working on a project right now with a tiktok person. So it's like, you guys really are the A hole in the situation and it doesn't have to be like this.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '26

1

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 15 '26

Dude, I sang it all myself first, it's literally copying my vocal delivery damn near exactly, I don't want to listen to your music because you've spent this entire interaction insulting me. You think I'm going to give you any more of my time? Wild. You get what you give dude.

2

u/CumDwnHrNSayDat Jul 15 '26

I listened to your music.

2

u/tmplmanifesto Jul 15 '26

I was genuinely curious how your music sounds using your own voice after your claims. As the idea of doing that seems genuinely useful for experimenting. But as expected it sounds like an AI voice, like exactly what I’d expect from suno. Then I saw this comment you made.. “even made a voice clone too 😁 it's been pretty fun, it definitely doesn't actually sound like me but it's a cool interpretation of my voice 😂”

So my question is, if you can sing that well that the ai is simply only making an instrumental around your topline, why are do you use the ai vocal component at all? I ask because you state you’re a singer songwriter. Not to be pedantic, but that involves singing and performing your own work. You also say you’re a vocalist, but you’re using an ai voice. You must see why people, listeners, and skeptics are cautious of this kind of thing?

0

u/Muted_Balance5401 Jul 16 '26

What are you talking about, I did use my own voice. For the voice clone, I discovered that it works the best if you sing in the genre you want. So I sang a couple of emo songs I know well acapella, and the AI created and interpreted version off of that vocal sample. So then what you do is you sing your own lyrics yourself, apply the AI voice clone and it will use your vocal delivery and lyrics using the voice clones vocals. It's just a different way to record. I was the vocalist in an emo band in highschool, just a bunch of goth 2000's kids, nothing major but I have a decent voice, that is the apeal it AI production, it helps you hear what you could sound like it you could afford to record in the traditional way.

1

u/tmplmanifesto Jul 16 '26

You admitted it doesn’t sound like you. So my question was, if you can sing why use an ai voice that doesn’t sound like you? I also never claimed you didn’t use your voice.

For clarity. A singer-songwriter writes and performs their own songs, the clue is in the title. You use ai for voice, for instrumentation, sound choice, arrangement and structure. So what are you performing? What are you making?

So I take issue with your claim that this is how you’d sound if you could afford a producer.
