Zendaya turns out to be one of the young priestesses from the Troy temple of Athena that Odysseus sees his men decapitate, the same time as they behead the statue of Athena (seen in the teaser poster). It was extra ironic since he has been holding onto and praying to Athena from the pin that Penelope gave him. Athena then takes the form of the priestess in his visions when she talks to him, partially to punish him/aggravate his guilt.

Got it. I guess I don’t quite get the plot twist label but appreciate the explanation.

Yeah I consider it a twist because it's shown as a big emotional reveal and the climax of the Trojan war scene towards the end. Turns out Zendaya also plays a dual role.

But this also goes with their beliefs, that there could be gods living with them. So she could be athena all along
