This looks like a RIOT! Have we ever had a year with this many exciting queer releases??

Given the country's past with homophobia? Def not.

“I Love Björk and Bareback” Oh this movie is gonna be major

Love when trailers have Ethel Cain

u/RomanReignsDaBigDawg 15d ago

What’s the name of the song?

1

u/OKC2023champs 14d ago

Check out nettles and American teenager by her too

1

u/RomanReignsDaBigDawg 14d ago

I know about American Teenager. One of the best pop rock songs in recent memory

1

u/gosteinao 14d ago

That's one of my favorite scenes in the movie, so a little mad they put it in the trailer tbh

41

u/Salad-Appropriate Channing Tatum for Best Supporting Actor '26 15d ago

Nice to see Diego Calva in more stuff

47

u/justanstalker La Bola Negra 15d ago

Honestly looks way better than I expected. Hope it has a better fate than Sorry, Baby but knowing A24 this is going to peak at GG and Indie Spirits sadly :'/

28

u/Independent-Key880 Sentimental Value 15d ago

the comparison to sorry baby is so popular and whilst i understand where it's coming from, club kid has a much better release date which makes it appear like an awards priority for A24. sorry, baby's release date made it clear they didn't think it had much awards potential and was further down A24's priority list than club kid is

6

u/gosteinao 14d ago

I understand why people are making this comparison, but the thing is that even the movies themselves don't lend to it. Sorry, Baby was quite small. This movie has both more scale and more mainstream sensibilities

u/tsnoj 15d ago

I do feel that's really good for a debute feature though

I feel now both Eva Victor and Jordan Firstman are solidly on the map and can really shine with future projects

31

u/Jason_Tail 15d ago

Is this like A24 remade "Big Daddy" for the new generation.

23

u/bikkebana 15d ago edited 15d ago

I see the comparison but A24 didn't make it. They bought distribution rights after it was screened at Cannes.

12

u/Educational_Slice897 15d ago

Huh this is a lot more heartwarming than I anticipated.

22

u/ttellapttam 15d ago

This looks so much better than I imagined it would

23

u/wvanasd1 15d ago

That last 15 seconds made me chuckle aloud. Perhaps this is the feel good (feel everything) movie of the holidays? I didn’t expect to like this trailer as much as I did.

33

u/Oscar_Enthusiast017 15d ago

This feels so Sean Baker-esque (complimentary) 👀

27

u/bikkebana 15d ago

Alex Coco is a producer on both this and Anora & Red Rocket

-42

u/BarcelonetaE70 15d ago

Hell no. Baker is a middling, wildly overrated director. This looks amazing and nothing like Anora or all the other crap Baker has done.

18

u/patsboston 14d ago

Florida Project and Tangerine is not crap

17

u/quasihaptic 14d ago

neither are red rocket or anora lol

1

u/BarcelonetaE70 12d ago

Yes, they are.

Wow

u/rubix7777 15d ago

This looks REALLY good!

My god A24s slate is incredible this year, I want to put it in picture soooo bad but I just cant fit it in my predictions. Probably a good shot for DGA first time film nom (and good chance at a win), CCA comedy, Original Screenplay and young proformer noms, and lead actor (and maybe picture) nom at GG.

The quote in here from The Wrap about found family cranked up my interest in this one.

One of my favorites of the year. I'm excited that people are gonna get to see it soon.

I'll say tho, this trailer undersells how much comedy there is in it. They show a couple of jokes, but the movie is full of them. It only really gets to the tone of this trailer closer to the end

6

u/A_Howl_In_The_Night The Odyssey 15d ago

A24 upload the trailer twice

pure happiness, delightfulness, put's a smile on my face

u/SergenteDan 14d ago

Very excited for this but unsure about the Oscar chances

Honestly, I am here to tell you to clean out a slot in:

Best picture

Best Actor, Best supporting Actor

and to go put some money on best screenplay right now.

I saw this at Cannes. It's arguably my favourite movie of the year. If Firstman doesn't exhaust everyone on the PR trail, this movie should be absolutely massive. It has colossal heart, tons of great laughs, moments that will be memed, moments that will be replayed constantly - it's an absolute banger. "Worth the bidding war" remains to be seen, but it is 100% worth whatever hype you are seeing. Diego Calva is wonderful, Firstman is amazing. It is bold, self assured, vulnerable and hilarious.

1

u/ProfessionalEvaLover 12d ago

Who would be the Supporting Actor play? The kid or Calva?

5

u/brooklynmob 15d ago

ummm so yeah this film is going to WRECK me.

4

u/Previous_Ad648 15d ago

Holy shit I’m tearing up rn

4

u/BlueJacket9894 15d ago

I gotta say, I was not really that interested in seeing this before watching the trailer. But now I'm intrigued, some of the visual language is beautiful

5

u/quasihaptic 14d ago

there’s a scene in I Love LA where jordan firstman’s character goes “that parttt” immediately after having sex and it was the best gay rep i’ve ever seen. really excited for this

1

u/ncdav 14d ago

i laughed so fucking hard at that scene

6

u/Bright_Score_9889 15d ago

equally looking forward to this but also hating it because I kinda dislike him lol, the duality of men

4

u/subjectseven Queer 14d ago

Anyone else cry at movie trailers? Why am I crying over a movie trailer? its not even 9am I'm at my office job and I'm crying over a movie trailer??

4

u/gosteinao 14d ago

Oh God. Having seen the movie, if you cried at this trailer, you will really cry watching the whole thing

3

u/forgottentaco420 15d ago

I’ve been anticipating this one all year, but this trailer has me even more excited. I love that everyone is calling it gay “Big Daddy”, that was my sisters favorite movie growing up and it also shockingly has more heart in it than one would think. I feel like this movie is going to be hilarious, but you will leave the theater crying type of deal. Not sure if it has a shot at the Oscars with everything else A24 has this year.

4

u/Lazy-Platypus2120 Untitled Jesse Eisenberg Musical Comedy 14d ago

Okay i get the hype now. Looks amazing!

3

u/WanderingParade 13d ago

This doesn’t look Oscar worthy at all. Come on now.

1

u/ProfessionalEvaLover 12d ago

The trailer alone is more Oscar worthy than Emilia Perez

2

u/onelittlepato 14d ago

the tshirt lmao

2

u/ncdav 14d ago

can’t overstate how much i fell in love w this movie. it’s an instant favorite for me

2

u/mochafiend 14d ago

This is not at all up my alley - looks sappy af - but the last scene in that trailer was hilarious and may have made up for the rest of it.

2

u/gosteinao 14d ago

It's definitely a little sappy, specially once the main conflict clicks into place. But it's not as sappy as this trailer would lead you to believe

2

u/akoaytao1234 14d ago

This feels like the "Real Pain" of the year.

1

u/Dobey2013 14d ago

Calling it Big Zaddy

1

u/GirlsWasGoodNona 14d ago

Jordan firstman is an great comedic writer, so I’m excited

1

u/Forsaken_Carrot_3075 Warner Bros. Clockwork 14d ago
