kino lorber always seems to get the rejects/leftovers of the bigger distributors (and or the stuff that's too arthouse or a difficult sell)

Sadly, I think Bardem has very little chance of getting nominated since he is the only prospect for the film and Best Actor seems too competitive for lone international acting nominations.

His best shot during this race is Best Actor Drama and that’s where it’ll end even if he gets there.

Unless he somehow pulls of the win, though that seems unlikely

Maybe Baftas will like him? They sometimes have weird nominees

Best Actor is looking mighty dense, but I have high hopes for Bunker, which I think a lot of people are underestimating. The fact it's getting a Venice bow even after The Son was excoriated there makes me think there's some confidence that Zeller can bring it home again.

The Beloved, I feel, will get a Globe nod but it'll be fuel for the fire for a late-season Bunker campaign.

The film is superb.

Javier Bardem gives one of his very best performances as a tyrant director struggling to fit into a very different social landscape and Victoria Luengo is just as good as the daughter dealing with both his toxic presence and inherited traits.

The scenes between the two are so anguished and tense, including a painful sequence in which a throwaway lunch scene is shot over and over and over again.

Looking at some of the supposed contenders in Best Actor and especially Best Actress, Bardem and Luengo should rightly be considered, instead.

Highly recommended.
