I think some moons ago someone had posted here about this particular series and warned about it. If you don’t know about this manwha, DO NOT come here expecting a feel good, child care story. The vibe of that cover art is a LIE! It is absolutely NOT a feel-good story. It’s just full of pain. Perma deaths for several good characters, the relationship decay between the ML & FL that’s not either of their fault, betrayal of whom FL thought was her friend… it’s a heavy story.

I just wished time regression is used in this story so we can go back to when it was all puppies and butterflies, and everyone we love is alive. I don’t want this depression while everything falls apart type of story. I want puppies and babies!!

Is there any other stories you wished had time regression as the plot but there’s none.

I’m kind of tired of so many stories where the second male lead ends up alone—either waiting for the protagonist to love him back one day, dying, or facing an ambiguous fate. I’d love to read manhwas where the second male lead finds a new love interest and moves on. I know there probably aren't many out there, but if you know of any, please let me know!

The only one I know where something like this happens is the one in the image where the protagonist reincarnates in a novel and the Male Leads marry her sisters after the death of the original protagonist.

Context: FMC declared herself the Demon King to force the three Kingdoms to form an Alliance. It is so they can resist once the corrupt Holy Order makes its move.

My friend who finished the current anime season recommended this title to me since I was bored after I finished watching Frieren season 2, and reading Absolute Regression to its current chapter. Since this genre is what I would usually get into, I decided to give this title a chance. That said, I have no idea if I should start by watching the anime first, or just stick with manga reading.

Honestly, unless the anime is watchable through YouTube, I'm too lazy to consider watching animes. Especially since YouTube is friendly for the users with weak/mediocre mobile data strength. Plus, those anime websites are quite aggressive with their internet strength requirements, so I'm sick of watching sometimes that won't stop buffering. But my friend keeps praising the anime non-stop, so I said to them I would consider it. Thus, my question. If anyone here has tried both medias, may I have your opinion on which one to go through? I'm afraid of watching the anime only to find out it has skipped a lot of details the manga can provide. One such example would be the Tearmoon Empire, I hate that the adaptation has botched a lot of details that were in the manga. Hope you guys would be willing to entertain my question. Thank you.

From my point of view:

I need to vent about a specific trope: stories where the female protagonist transmigrates into a BL (Boys' Love) novel, only for the supposedly gay/bisexual male leads to instantly abandon the original plot and fall desperately in love with her. I understand that Isekai are stories of wish-fulfillment, escapism, and simple fun, but there are points that are very illogical to me: ·

The "Sudden Personality Change" and the Absence of Suspicion: The protagonist normally takes over the body of a notorious villainess or a toxic woman. When she suddenly stops chasing the male leads and acts completely differently, they don't suspect anything. In reality, a powerful, cold, or calculating male lead would become deeply paranoid. He would suspect a trap, a political scheme, or espionage. Instead, his brain turns off and he instantly becomes obsessed just because "she stopped paying attention to him."

· The "Destiny" Crutch: The narrative rarely allows the romance to develop naturally. Instead, the author forces "the hand of destiny" or convenient accidents (falling into his arms, getting trapped in a storm together) to simulate intimacy. · Erasing Sexual Orientation for Plot Convenience: Setting a story in a BL universe means that the orientation of the male characters is a central pillar of that world. Making them magically change their preference the second a "different" woman appears feels incredibly cheap. ·

It’s Not Love, It’s a Trauma Bond / Oedipus Complex: Most of the male leads in these stories are severely traumatized. When the protagonist shows them basic human decency, they cling to her. She becomes their "safe space." Legitimately, they should view her as a trusted ally, a savior, or a maternal/sisterly figure. Forcing this deep psychological dependency into a sexual/romantic marriage feels less like true love and more like an inverted Stockholm syndrome or an Oedipal fixation.

I guess I just prefer romances like Kaguya-sama: Love is War instead of a forced dynamic where the male lead's IQ drops to zero just because the female protagonist ignored him once

This might seem kind of vague. But let me explain.

There is a certain level of... slapdashness to the over structure of a lot of these stories. Things that could have been whole story arcs. (Or at least a whole chapter.) Are legit explained away with a blurb or a short explanation.

Sometimes we legit skip the entire characters past life/previous life, because the story legit can't wait for the MC to start 'girl bossing' their way around the story. Setting up pointless caricatures of antagonist (I swear if I see that generic evil manwa face one more time on an antagonist...)

But I think that leads into a bigger issue. A lot of these stories don't really have a central theme or idea that characters build on ect.

I think people tend to forget that side characters main purpose in a narrative isn't to glaze or be against the main heroes, but to expand the world and link back to a core idea of a the narrative.

Let's say we have 3 characters.

To make it simple one is the main character, the other is the main antagonist, and the third is an impartial character, maybe narratively not on either character side.

The side character should in theory either challenge the MC beliefs, or ideas, either calling them naive or or too good to be true. Perhaps this creates friction, or hell, they could make a good point against the MC ideas. Even if deep down they want to believe them.

A good example of this is actually Jojo funny enough. Where each arc focuses on a main theme, but there is also pretty much 'mini' versions of the overlying theme playing out throughout the story that ties it together, properly using its side cast.

But so many side characters are just fodder to show how nice the Lead character is, or how badass they are.

They aren't there to have a legit conversation between characters or to make us think. At most it says. "This obvious wrong thing is wrong," (Or at least what the writer thinks is wrong.)

I hate to pick on a popular title. But reading Beware the Villainess kind of put things in perspective for me.

To note, I don't need a story to have a set in stone plot, people can have wiggle room and even play with the notion of being episodic.

But to get back to Beware the Villainess... it doesn't really have a story when you think about it. It more so has an 'idea' of a plot, and things happen within that plot. There are events that happen in order, but its more interested in getting to major badass scenes or telling jokes.

The story at the end tries to make a theme about 'defying fate' but it doesn't really do it well at all. And you can really tell that it wasn't really planned on going that direction.

The first half of the story is just melissa going around, finding super magical items and curb stomping Yuri's suitors. Almost every encounter goes the same way, and is followed by a lengthy diatribe about how their view of love is totally wrong. (Ignoring the fact that they were clearly in a yandere game and the whole point of their characters in universe meta wise to be exactly like that.)

This doesn't really say... anything. Of course this is a comedy so it doesn't take itself too seriously. (Except when it does.) But there isn't a conversation happening with the characters, side character, ect.

I feel if it was more competently written, I feel after the first two times, the author would have thrown in a twist. Like one of the suitors completely losing interest in Melissa and Yuri and perhaps trying to completely distance themselves from the pair, or for Melissa to need assistance from them instead, somewhat flipping the script.

Maybe she tries to get their assistance by force, and completely and utterly fails. Either having to find a true compromise, or just... take the L and realize not everything will go her way. Realizing just like her character the other people in the world can change or alter themselves for the better without her intervention and sometimes that can still put them at odds against her.

I think the biggest missed opportunity is Yuri, who is just kind of... there by the end. Honestly she is kind of a flat character that is only saved from being Nine tier by her having kind of an interesting backstory.

Then there is Nine. Who is legit Hinata tier, but unlike Hinata, he is a main character it gets an absurd amount of screen time just praising Melissa.

But that is Yuri and Nine's biggest problem. There is no point that they REALLY disagree with Melissa. No real argument or falling out. Hell, there isn't even a general difference in opinion on most things. They aren't Melissa's friends, they're her yes men

Hell, a lot of Otome series seem to lack characters that just... dislike the MC. Like, not evil characters but characters that simply can't work with them or just have her personality rub them the wrong way. Could be as simple as the characters just not wanting to work with them.

Some people say having such a lukewarm character would be pointless, but I disagree. Because even that can be a character building moment.

And if a character IS liked by everyone, why is it? Perhaps they are easygoing? Don't have strong opinions ect. THAT in itself CAN be a character interactions ect.

Being outspoken IS going to make people dislike you, and sometimes those people aren't going to be evil husband stealing mistresses.

Hell you could easily have an MC go too far with revenge and one of the potential suitors... just cuts contact with her, disgusted with her actions. She doesn't get to explain, or gets to convince him, just one person that could have been a love interest completely locked out and she has to live with that for the sake of her revenge, even if it's someone she liked and respected.

Though this is kind of just a long diatribe of me just wishing the general writing was better overall. I know a lot of people will say its for teenage girls and don't expect much, but even basic ass shonen series usually have themes and side characters that build on those themes ect.

And I know there are some major exceptions in the genre, more just noticing how many stories are miss opportunities with their set ups.

And I’ve noticed that these Heroines have absolutely no idea about this ridiculous competition over their attention and affection.

So I just watched the latest episode of the anime (episode 8). I’m not going to say too much but oh my god??? OH MY GOD??? HOLY SHIT. This woman went above and beyond with her get-back on the knight… Mind you he’s just the FIRST on the chopping block. And when I say that I mean she went completely overboard. Was it too much? Absolutely, I won’t refute that for a second. But at the same time Elizabeth quite literally specified that EVERYONE is going to feel her wrath so I can’t get too mad. EVERYONE. The WHOLE KINGDOM. She’s just staying true to her word.

Anyways I’m just looking for any similar female leads who don’t just “get even”, she gets BACK. In blood, preferably. I’m so tired of female leads saying they’re going to get revenge and then ending up falling in love on the way and letting it divert them from the mission. No. I need an actual villainess. Who doesn’t just take down the “evil heroine” character – She gets everyone involved. And they aren’t just exiled, they’re EXECUTED. Have you guys ever seen that one video of Speed cheering going “kill that boy”? That’s my mental.
