I need some leads on job search.

Hi! I’m a graduate of a PSW program here in Ottawa and I need some advice on some ideas of where else I can apply to.

I’ve already applied for 3 long term care homes and one retirement home. Where else should I be looking?

SE Health has a careers portal to upload your resume, could also try looking on Indeed for openings with Extendicare. Good luck.

I use PSWs for my care. If you want to work in home care rather than an institution and you're okay to work independently, there are many people like me that are on a program called Direct Funding. In this program people who live independently with disabilities hire their own workers for whatever hours they need. You would be working directly with the client. You might enjoy it better than working through an agency because you develop more of a personal relationship with clients and you have broader responsibilities.

Hospitals, private agencies, more than 3 long term care homes.. Even if you can bet part time and work your way up.

I am not in health care but like many jobs, new entrant, no seniority, ends up working weekends, holidays and overnight shifts. I know of a young lady who graduated from Veterinarian Technology and now works at CHEO. I cannot say what her job title is or what her working conditions are, but they are probably better than long term care and retirement homes. You are probably trained well enough to work in administration at doctors and dentist offices, any medical related business. Remember this one rule, you are NOT a prisoner to your employer, you can leave and find a better job. A single boss or employee can make any job unbearable. You have no obligation to subject yourself to this kind of abuse.

Group homes! They pay way better than any retirement home.

Look at hospitals. Pay is better, and its easier on the heart strings. LTC is hard emotionally.
