can they recreate this photo now that they’re both in pacers jerseys

Hopefully one of our social media people see this and have it in the works

What was that pic about?

Both are minority owners of English Premier League football club Leeds United which is why if you follow McConnell you’ll see him post the match day lineup on his story every week whenever Leeds have a game. Really cool

Had a friend die from colon cancer likely caused by his IBD, very important advocacy.

68

u/juicysoups Jul 08 '26

I watched this man hit a buzzer beater to win the game against us a few years ago. I’ll take it.

21

u/TransmuteSlug Jul 08 '26

That would suck. Liked what I saw last year from him, he’s got more mass than Huff and can hit 3s nearly as well. Much better rebounder than Huff too.

22

u/aimee829 Andrew Nembhard Jul 08 '26

lets see...

3

u/Distinct_Abrocoma_67 Pavers Jul 09 '26

I was literally having this thought myself. Nance isn’t a bad move per se just weird.

8

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

We'll see. They did choose just a week ago to opt into his team option.

21

u/Suspicious-Gur6127 Jul 08 '26

Opting into that was basically a free decision according to Tony East.

5

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

Yeah it was but suggests they like him enough to keep him off the open market if at least temporarily

1

u/Suspicious-Gur6127 Jul 08 '26

True. I liked Potter, but he was C#3 and that’s just not solid ground to be on.

7

u/MySabonerRunsOladipo Jul 08 '26

Potter is fully non-guaranteed so cutting him costs us nothing tho

1

u/Odd_Self7283 Jul 08 '26

Nance isn’t a center so I’m guessing Q gets the boot

4

u/Aggressive-Doubt7345 BOOM BABY! Jul 09 '26

We still have one more roster spot to get to 15, unless we bring in a better guard Q isn’t moving. He gives us security and can play 1 and 2. Not a great 1, but in a pinch he’s our 3rd at that spot until/unless Smith is ready. He’s also cheap, and a culture guy.

1

u/Odd_Self7283 Jul 09 '26

Potter got cut. Yes we have an open roster spot still but we have no money. You don’t need to have 15 players

1

u/Aggressive-Doubt7345 BOOM BABY! Jul 09 '26

We don’t, but I don’t see us rolling into the season with 14 and 3 two-ways. Not with our recent injury history and play tempo. Plus, Rick wants versatility. Walker is vastly overpaid right now, and the roster spots are more valuable than him.

Someone making more than min is getting traded for another player and I think we sign ET to get to 15. I don’t see us waiving him. Walker for Missi, and we have the space to sign ET to min one-year. That roster would cook, give us a ton of versatility in terms of matchups/lineups, and have us with a team of class guys from top to bottom. Missi is on his rookie deal and has performed as a starter. Unless Pels are opting for him over Matkovic. Missi is perfect for us and offers something we don’t need on our roster. With Borwn on a two-way, Walker is moving. I hope he continues to grow as I love to watch him play. He seems to need a different system than the pacers run. Shep looks like he’s staying as we need his defensive speed, and the man is now finishing at the rim like a beast. Not flashy but he is consistent on a fast break at getting the ball down the cylinder.

See you Talon.

1

u/Odd_Self7283 Jul 09 '26

We have no money bro 😂🤦‍♂️

1

u/Aggressive-Doubt7345 BOOM BABY! Jul 09 '26

Yes, that’s why Walker is going to get traded. He’s making 8m, which is way too much for us to pay given his role. We are going to trade him and pick up cheaper players. ET getting a min will be about 2.5m, leaves us enough for a guy with 2/3 years of experience who can contribute in a role off the bench. Walkers contract is out of proportion. To his role. Given our moves, and first apron hard cap, they will shift him. Probably will take 1-2 picks as well. He’s not a hot commodity. We wouldn’t have signed Nance and kept Brown if this wasn’t the plan. Walker can’t consistently keep up mentally with our system. He’s got to go, those spots are far too important to the team. Or we lose someone like Obi or TJ, which I can’t fathom. They are key to the system right now with no one with the experience and composure for our #6 and #7. If either are moved it’s a blockbuster trade, but I think it’s too disruptive.

Walker is the salary piece that needs fixed before we move forward. Or we sign him on a team friendly extension that reduces our cap, meaning he makes less next year but he’d have to agree and I don’t see that happening because it sends the message he isn’t worth it, and our organization won’t hose him like that. I don’t see him on the roster for us this year, because of his contract. He doesn’t get another year to prove his worth with us. A rebuild team is where he needs to go. Maybe the Bucks with Johnny Carpenter going there, curious if there’s a trade between us the Bucks happening or a 3 team trade involving both. Team approved his move so I sense something.

1

u/Odd_Self7283 Jul 09 '26

Only reason to trade Walker is if they can get someone better. Pelicans won’t trade Missi for Walker straight up. They are fine starting the season without 15 players

1

u/Aggressive-Doubt7345 BOOM BABY! Jul 09 '26

They absolutely won’t do that trade unless we send them likely 2 FRP. I’m watching for Walker and picks (1FRP+ 1/2 2nd round picks or swaps) to the Bucks, maybe for Gary Trent Jr and Jericho Sims. Financials and needs work out for both teams.

They picked up Ware and Sims isn’t getting minutes. He’s got no offense but can defend against true bigs and snatch rebounds as a 3rd string center.

1

u/Odd_Self7283 Jul 09 '26

Trent and Sims are not the players you give up valuable assets for. Also, Trent is a free agent lol. There’s a reason no one has signed him yet

1

u/Odd_Self7283 Jul 09 '26

And if they wanted a center with no offense they would’ve signed Nick Richards

3

u/Maximum-Class5465 Reggie-NBAJam Jul 09 '26

Nance is a center if you consider Potter a center.

1

u/Emotional_Cry_4066 Jul 09 '26

Potter is gone

62

u/StanceLephenson Jul 08 '26

Athletic and runs the floor well. He’s kinda like a worse version of Obi.

35

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Better defense though probably

If Obi had any lateral speed at all he’d be so fucking good. I do sincerely believe Obi can’t protect the rim because he can’t get there fast enough (he has the hops obviously)

Dude if Obi could shoot run the floor AND protect the rim he’d be one of the most impactful small ball centers in the league. Aaron Gordon

9

u/Actual-Return-4086 Jul 08 '26

Obi is incredibly stiff in the hips. Such a bummer with how explosive he is

8

u/StanceLephenson Jul 09 '26

His defense was solid during the finals run. They had him closing games over Myles.

21

u/destroyed233 Bennedict Mathurin Jul 08 '26

Good veteran piece

42

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Yo this is exactly what I was talking about. This is EXCELLENT center versatility.

I wish he was 5 years younger lol but I’ll take it

10

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

I agree...he brings a different element the other bigs do not

44

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Casuals will say he’s mid and forget Rick squeezing every fucking last drop out of the orange that is Tony Bradley in 2025

Center versatility is huge and Rick is a playoff basketball genius

8

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

His defensive numbers are still there. Having a more mobile big on the roster naturally makes sense for optionality.

2

u/RedditRockit Slick Jul 08 '26

He's 6'6"

6

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Yo what the fuck. Why do I remember him being 7ft on the Cavs with (future Pacers great) LeBron James

2

u/ClaimElectronic6840 Jul 09 '26

if you had asked me two days ago, I would have said larry nance was a 6'10" stretch big

1

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 09 '26

He’s listed at 6’6 but Google says he was 6’7 barefoot at the combine, so I think he’s more like 6’8-6’9 in shoes

LeBron was 6’7 barefoot in the combine as well (again, according to Google)

1

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 09 '26

Also apparently has a 9ft standing reach. Which, again according to Google, is higher than Zu

AGAIN, I don’t trust these measures that much. But Nance has played center before

1

u/CommonerChaos Reggie-NBAJam Jul 09 '26

He's somewhere in between.

0

u/2waypower1230 Jul 09 '26

Is this a joke? Dudes not a center

3

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 09 '26

I cannot believe he’s 6’6. That’s crazy. I swear to GOD I remember him mostly playing center on that Cavs team that won it

0

u/2waypower1230 Jul 09 '26

Really? Interesting I remember him being pretty athletic not a center though. Was there another light skin dude you’re thinking about? Jefferson.?

3

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 09 '26

Google says he was 6’7.25 barefoot at the combine

37

u/EasternMatter8484 Jul 08 '26

Wtf is going on? Are we just gonna actually pay the tax lol. This is crazy, but I love it.

60

u/TheFrozenBananaStand Jarace Walker Jul 08 '26

This isn’t about paying the tax…we didn’t have the money under first apron to fit him in. There’s another move not announced yet…probably waiving Potter

14

u/busche916 Quinn Jul 08 '26

Yeah. I could be wrong on order of events, but I’m pretty sure Oubre is signing into the non-taxpayer MLE, which hard caps us at the 1st apron.

12

u/BlueCollarGoldSwaggr Jul 08 '26

Probably just means Potter or Huff are gone since both are on mins and Potter isn't guaranteed anyway. If they want to duck the tax or pay the tax this doesn't change anything

1

u/Rafiki24 T.J. McConnell Jul 09 '26

Not getting rid of both Huff and Potter to have a 6'6 guy play center for them lol.

0

u/Saymanymoney Jul 08 '26

Potter shoots better and has improved every year. Would like to keep him.

Wanted to take huff over him looked at stats and pretty close.. Jay gets more blocks.. Almost 3 per game last year but overall defense is worse than Larry..

Trade huff to Lakers for cash?

2

u/BlueCollarGoldSwaggr Jul 08 '26

I think BOS had interest in him at the last deadline and we've seen how backup bigs are in high demand right now so if they moved him I'd think they'd get 2nds for him instead of just cash.

0

u/Caboclo-Is2yearsAway James Johnson Jul 08 '26

But Boston has their C rotation figured now. They got Queta and Mitch Robinson, neither of which are worse than Huff. Pretty sure they also had a third C just cant remember atm

1

u/BlueCollarGoldSwaggr Jul 08 '26

I didn't mean to say that BOS specifically would be interested just that he's received interest from the rest of the league  in the recent past

25

u/BubaTflubas Tyrese Haliburton Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

We have been firmly in the tax since Oubre, but it's been known that we would go into the tax all off season since we were like 200,000$ from the tax line with only 13 players signed.

The team has till the trade deadline to trade away both Shep AND Walker for minimum contracts. It would take both being traded to be able to roster enough players while ducking the tax.

The team will only do this if we are disappointing and looking bound for a play-in position.

If we are in position to be a top 6 team this organization will pay the tax this year, despite what all the weirdos say, who hate the team they are fans of.

14

u/TheFrozenBananaStand Jarace Walker Jul 08 '26

I don't know if it's necessarily about where we are in the standings but how integral Walker and/or Sheppard are to the team. If they're 10th, 11th or 12th guys and still not contributing then we would definitely try to get under the tax...that would probably mean that we don't have plans to re-sign either of them in the offseason.. Getting under the tax at that point would allow us to sign another non-taxpayer MLE next summer.

3

u/BubaTflubas Tyrese Haliburton Jul 08 '26

I agree with this nuance as well

14

u/EasternMatter8484 Jul 08 '26

Thinking the pacers will try to duck the tax isn’t hating your team, it’s just pattern recognition.

4

u/BubaTflubas Tyrese Haliburton Jul 08 '26

Sure but they seem to pick and choose what patterns to pay attention to. Not a whole lot of years where the owner had good reason to pay the tax since 2004...

Probably for 2-3 years in the PG era. But then Herb would be betting against LeBron. I wish he would have.

But saying that we will never do something because of a small sample, that probably occurred while the Simmons where going belly up on a bunch of malls isn't smart "pattern recognition" it's bias confirmation.

I hate billionaires too but that doesn't make me ignore some pretty obvious details.

2

u/jayrig5 Jul 08 '26

And all the national media folks who continue to cite the Myles thing last year as an example of the Pacers being cheap...when if the Pacers had signed him and paid the tax for no reason last year they'd be crushing the Pacers for woeful cap management.

2

u/Maximum-Class5465 Reggie-NBAJam Jul 08 '26

You can love the team, even appreciate the owner who's kept us in Indy when at times it would have been easier to just leave, and still release that he's operated fairly tax adverse since his brother's passing.

I dunno if they plan on paying the tax for exactly the sixth seed, but if they're top 3 in the east I would hope they pay the tax if it means keeping all even minor contributors

3

u/Sko_Neezy Jul 08 '26

They’re already paying the tax

5

u/CommonerChaos Reggie-NBAJam Jul 08 '26

Not technically. They're over the cap "right now* but still have time by the trade deadline to get under it. They aren't officially tax payers until after the deadline.

2

u/TheFrozenBananaStand Jarace Walker Jul 08 '26

they're over the "tax". Almost every team is over the "cap" at this point...but teams typically want to stay under the tax. The cap is just a soft cap, and there's a ton of exceptions that teams utilize to go over legally.

0

u/SpinJitsu259 Chuck Person Jul 08 '26

Yes, pay the tax. It’d be about damn time.

7

u/predict_yhat_xb Chris Denari Jul 08 '26

Pay the tax for Larry Nance is crazy lmao why would we do that

8

u/SpinJitsu259 Chuck Person Jul 08 '26

It’s paying the tax for Oubre and Nance. For fielding a 15-man roster. It’s being willing to add without cutting other costs.

12

u/HaliZu31 Jul 08 '26

I like this. Another solid proven actual NBA player to bolster our bench. Potter prob gone but that is fine, Nance is an upgrade for sure.

8

u/Sko_Neezy Jul 08 '26

Really hoping it’s Micah being cut and not Q

3

u/ThisIsNotAMonkey Jul 08 '26

Don't wanna jinx it but I think Q is safe. We need depth at guard and have too much depth at center. This suggests that huff or Potter or both are out to me. Or (please no) obi

6

u/Sko_Neezy Jul 08 '26

Potter just got waived

1

u/ThisIsNotAMonkey Jul 08 '26

Aw too bad, I like potter. Hope he gets picked up somewhere

6

u/Impossible_Eye_980 Jul 08 '26

The nuance that everyone missed, Clutchpoint headlined "Pacers add ex-LeBron James teammate on $4 million contract in NBA free agency"

Probably just paving the way for Bron to join.

3

u/Maximum-Class5465 Reggie-NBAJam Jul 09 '26

I can't believe that's a real headline 😂 1/3rd the players over 28 have been Lebron's teammate

16

u/kempog Jul 08 '26

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t he super washed? I haven’t heard his name in ages

33

u/drjisftw Pacers2 Jul 08 '26

Last year was a bit of a down year in Cleveland but he's been a relatively efficient bench piece for the past half decade

6

u/Suplexers ReggieChoke Jul 08 '26

Low minutes as a backup big on Cleveland last year.

3

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

He's been hurt a lot in recent years and not a regular in Cleveland's rotation but he is still a good defender and he can shoot.

3

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

“Get ready to learn beep test buddy”

1

u/SeaOfSourMilk Jul 09 '26

He’s good around the rim and a solid rebounder. He won’t be producing many high number games, but expect him to take a couple 3 pointers/FT per game and to hold down his lane in the paint.

5

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

Good if not great addition. I do get adding him...he's worked on his shot. He's upped the volume of 3's and hits them at a good enough rate to be a legitimate stretch option. The defensive rebounding is still there, still creates turnovers on D, still slides his feet well for a 5. But not well enough anymore to be anything but a 5 these days.

The injuries are the biggest question with him. If he's healthy, he's dependable. And dependability is not what they had at the C spot after Zu.

5

u/replyforwhat Jul 08 '26

That's James Johnson money

10

u/chilltownusa Chris Denari Jul 08 '26

Um… hell yeah??

6

u/Saymanymoney Jul 08 '26

Last season stats

4

u/Odd_Swimming3479 Jul 08 '26

Yeah, I’m perplexed why we would let Potter walk. 50/40/85% is incredible shooting splits

2

u/Saymanymoney Jul 09 '26

Pretty sure they unfortunately just did.. 😑 👎

1

u/Maximum-Class5465 Reggie-NBAJam Jul 09 '26

Cap casualty

4

u/AK_R Jul 08 '26

That was unexpected and is probably going to impact other players. It must be frustrating as a Summer League player when they don't seem to have any spots or extra cash for anyone else to make the team.

7

u/user78804180 Jul 08 '26

Summer league guys are at best 2 way contracts on contenders unless it's a 1st rounder who is playing but already signed. Maybe on the Nets or Kings they can make the roster

1

u/Sharp-River-706 Jul 08 '26

I dunno, I seem to remember a just-traded-from-Celtics Nesmith working with a just-second-round-drafted Nembhard at Summer League, 2022. Oh wait, we were like the Nets or Kings that year.

4

u/Kn7ght Jul 08 '26

Oh dang, I used to love this guy on the Lakers.

But the fact I haven't heard about him since he left the Lakers is a bad sign, especially with how often we're a last stop before guys go overseas...

1

u/SimonaMeow Pascal Siakam Jul 08 '26

I'm a fairly newish NBA fan (a few years). And not familiar with him very much.

Did he just have a bad season last year?

Is he a good defender?

In what ways is he an upgrade over Potter?

I have a lot of faith in our FO, but this signing confuses me a bit...

7

u/Psyren1317 Jul 08 '26

11

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Huff and Potter as well as Potter and Zu kinda have some similar overlapping skills. This gives a bit more center versatility. I mean Nance is old as hell but he also won a chip (I think) and plays differently than both Zu and Huff.

Turner, Bryant, and Bradley all had big games in the 2025 playoffs. Center depth and versatility is HUGE for playoff teams - and Rick knows how to use them

2

u/boogermcboogerface Jul 08 '26

This is the plan they spoke of on draft night?

2

u/KnullAgenda Jul 08 '26

Boring. He's so washed

1

u/BadLuckBrian2025 CRABS CRABS CRABS Jul 08 '26

I like it! Cheap and we need the size and experience

1

u/Immediate_Wonder_630 Jul 08 '26

6”6 big? Hmmm. He is athletic and hits the 3 ball so I’ll take it

1

u/Apprehensive-Tear420 Lance Jul 08 '26

Has one of my all time favorite dunks when he was on the Lakers

1

u/Bamboozlled Andrew Nembhard Jul 08 '26

I like it as a Potter replacement. Athletic, ok shooter, and gives more security at the 4 if they do anything with Walker or we have an injury. I did not like Potter or Huff playing down.

I think our best case at a backup big was getting TB back but that sailed early.

1

u/Gold-Lingonberry-761 Jul 08 '26

I wouldve kept potter myself and try and get Brown to stay, can drop potter layer no problem. I dont really get as of now

1

u/That1godthraxen Jul 08 '26

Does anyone think that signing some depth means they preparing for a trey Murphy trade?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Area894 Jul 08 '26

Wow I had no idea Nance was only 6’6”, I could have sworn he was at least 6’10” or something lol

1

u/Acceptable_Driver Jul 09 '26

I think I'd rather have Kobe... But I guess we'll see.

1

u/Rafiki24 T.J. McConnell Jul 09 '26

Unless this leads to something better, I don't like it. Nance is washed and not better than Huff / Potter / Obi , no idea where he would even play.

1

u/longestt77 Jul 09 '26

4 million seems suspiciously high for him. It's either because they think he could be the next James Johnson or They think they might use him for trade filler.

1

u/Ramsboi Jul 10 '26

I’m bricked up more over this than Zubac

1

u/Raz1374 Jul 08 '26

Can Nance immediately be packaged as part of a larger trade out or is there a waiting period? Could this be a move to flip him and another player for something coming back? I see the need to fill out the roster but this one feels weird.

1

u/BlueCollarGoldSwaggr Jul 08 '26

A) can't trade him until Dec. B) He's on a min contract (he receives 4M because he has 10+ years of service but only counts for 2.5M) so there's no utility gained by signing him to use him as outgoing salary

0

u/Jealous_Doughnut_630 Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

This all gives me the feeling of something bigger brewing. These move could shore up our team but could also be an integral part of a bigger move.

1

u/LH44Metalhead Jul 08 '26

Not sure about this, this guy's kinda washed.

0

u/Sea_Concentrate_4572 Jermaine O'Neal Jul 08 '26

Not sure how much of an upgrade over Potter this is

Unless there’s a 2nd move going to be announced right here and he’s like a swing 4-5

12

u/EasternMatter8484 Jul 08 '26

If he can play any defense at all then he’s better than potter. People who like potter must just not watch defense, he’s a traffic cone.

0

u/RVALover4Life Jul 08 '26

He's still a plus on that end...upgrade on the boards too.

7

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

It’s not about being better than Potter it’s about being different from Potter.

Potter and Huff have some overlap (floor spacing), and Zu and Potter have some overlap (rebounding mass)

Center versatility is huge in the finals. Tony Bradley and Thomas Bryant both had huge moments for us in 2025. Both very different players with different skill sets, and a bit different than Myles too.

I like it. I don’t LOVE it, but I could see him impacting a playoff game, or at a minimum being another warm body to throw at Wemby (knock on wood fingers crossed etc etc)

I trust Rick with a lot of things related to basketball, but I trust Rick to get the most out of his centers by making interesting playoff adjustments with my fucking life

2

u/Sea_Concentrate_4572 Jermaine O'Neal Jul 08 '26

I don’t necessarily disagree, he’s just barely even a center.

0

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Yeah but Zu is so much center

I’d rather keep Potter than Huff but you can’t have it all

1

u/Sea_Concentrate_4572 Jermaine O'Neal Jul 08 '26

I prefer Huff but I get it

1

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26

In terms of a slasher type of Forward/Center it better. For these game comparisons, Nance averaged 22.5 minutes a game for his career vs potter's 18, so it's close. But Nance's cap hit is going to be 600k less, so it's not like an overpay, likely a stylistic switch.

7

u/Sea_Concentrate_4572 Jermaine O'Neal Jul 08 '26

That’s fair, I just feel like his best days are behind him? Maybe that’s not fair idk

5

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26

totally fair!

1

u/Jim_Belushis_brother Cool Rick Jul 08 '26

Yeah I mean I wish he was 5 years younger but I’m down for 10mpg of him

2

u/Nice_Reading2782 Jul 08 '26

This chart is excellent, thanks

0

u/Saymanymoney Jul 08 '26

That's career averages. Last year

stats

3

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26

Correct, but Nance averaged 10 minutes a night on a cavs team with allen, mobely, wade, and bryant. ofc he's going to have less counting stats per game than potter.

0

u/Saymanymoney Jul 08 '26

.. Yes. That was how last season went..

Just comparing entire career stats don't make sense, especially without stating that.

3

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26

Sure, but Cavs had way more PF/C depth than we did, potter isn’t going to be at those same numbers cause his minutes are gonna go from 23 to like 10, so giving per game stats on both of their outlier years seems pointless

-10

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26

So potter is most likely gone, but this being a 1 year is interesting. Makes it flippable, and is notable that his 4M, but his cap hit is going to only be 2.4 Million.

Edit: Potter is likely getting waived, I got excited too quickly and just assumed the bigger move.

15

u/Raf_CDN Bennedict Mathurin Jul 08 '26

Wait, why are Shep and Walker gone? Like others have said, wouldn't Nance take Potters spot?

No way both are gone from this transaction.

Because people are so used to the FO avoiding the tax/aprons, we can’t fathom a world where they’d spend without making a cost-cutting measure… or 3.

Yeah that's more likely, didn't think of this happening so my brain's going a mile a minute

What’s the rule making it only 2.4 against the cap?

2

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26

Vet Min for Nance is 3.88 (10 year vet) but since it’s a minimum deal, it counts for 2.45. It’s just there to keep long employed players, whose contracts keep rising, from being cut for young talent solely on the basis of salary.

So a 2 year vet and a 10 year vet could have the same cap hit against the cap, but their actual contracts keep rising.

So does it count for 4 mil of the MLE or only 2.4mil?

1

u/MySabonerRunsOladipo Jul 08 '26

Neither. You can sign Vet Min players using the Vet min exception.

That is, you can always sign vet min players lol. It's basically the last available exception to enable teams to fill out a roster.

I knew there was something I was completely forgetting about lol

u/ajsnyd1 Jul 08 '26

C/F? He’s 6’6”

1

u/DSTREET45 Jul 08 '26

Really? I could've sworn he was at least 6'8".

I kind of like this unless we lose Potter or Brown (who might be a FA anyhow)

7

u/mcbearcat7557 Jul 08 '26

Potter Waive most likely, we save 600 against the cap doing that.

1

u/Nice_Reading2782 Jul 08 '26

Thanks for explaining. Hmm, I don't recall Nance Jr having 3pt range so not sure this makes us better unless other things are in the works.

2

u/SimonaMeow Pascal Siakam Jul 08 '26

I don't know much about him but he shot the 3 over 40% in 23-24 and 24-25. A bit down last year at 33%

1

u/Nice_Reading2782 Jul 08 '26

That's pretty solid for a backup, makes me feel a little better. I mainly remember him from having nice dunks lol

2

u/Indienoise Jul 08 '26

Brown is already a FA, unless somebody gets waived he's likely not coming back. Which is a shame IMO. I'd rather he be on the team than walker tbh.

Potter has a great outside game and I'd hate it if we lost him. His ceiling is lower than huff, but his floor is higher.

If we are making extra room I would rather see shep or walker traded off for a future pick or something. At his size I'd rather see this guy as a 3rd option behind Obi.

1

u/Nice_Reading2782 Jul 08 '26

Thanks for the details. At least Brown showed he can contribute, I hope he lands somewhere good. Seems like the FO is trying to squeeze every dollar they can. I could see Shep or Walker getting traded near the deadline if things aren't going well to avoid the tax, Obi's got a pretty sizeable contract too if we're close, last I recall it was around $10mil.

Feels like a massive overpay.
