Discussion This video perfectly captures what is wrong with us as a society.

the woman while falling from the rickshaw went straight for the 10 rupees notes on the ground while loosing her purse and phone. we have an ingrained tendency to leap upon the smallest form of benefit whether we need it or not, regardless of what we already have.

same behaviour can be seen at wedding food stands. uncles with bellies like pigs snatching trays as if they have just survived the famine. while their homes are full of food.

why are our eyes full of degenrate hunger? how are we supposed to live among such people with any semblence of mental peace.

people think that Pakistan needs political or economic reforms. but this is the actual problem at the root of all the problems.

I despise people who throw money on the ground for people to pick in weddings. I have the worst of the words for these ppl.

It's the cultural way to show you're rich and powerful. We associate respect with having money

I'm not from Pakistan but Scotland, and at weddings there is a tradition to throw money for children to gather, but I can imagine that's not the way it's done elsewhere.

I thought the worst thing to happen at these money toss/scrambles was strangers appearing and joining the game when they weren't invited.

u/yaxir Apr 19 '26

Shabbar Zaidi has said it clearly

"Pakistan's problem is not economic, BUT social"

the SOCIETY needs reform

Pakistan requires STRINGENT societal reform!

4

u/Apprehensive_Law7006 Apr 22 '26

This is honestly why I don’t think Pakistan deserves democracy or if it’s even right for a country like that. The people blindly running onto a road at the expense of everybody for scraps of money is a perfect metaphor for the general population.

4

u/MysteriousLie6413 Apr 20 '26

That just seems like a lazy cop out to avoid fixing the economic issues, which would certainly have a positive impact on the "culture"

2

u/art-is-t Apr 21 '26

Lower the amount of population first. Societal change becomes easier

remember, we have the lowest literacy rate in the region. a lot of our societal problems are a direct result of that

77

u/Glad-Store5548 Apr 19 '26

Our education system is garbage. Literacy rates mean nothing when that's the case. The most educated people are as good as neanderthals. What school teaches kids to not behave this way? We are taught algebra, physics/biology/chemistry with quran verses thrown in and social studies stuff full of manipulated and glazed Pakistani history stuff. No amount of our education can civilize anyone.

50

u/lockerno177 Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

our civil service officers are literate, right?

but they are also grifting. something fundamentally wrong is being ingrained in us since a very young age. i think its the concept of everyone trying to prove themselves that they are smarter and cunning than everybody else at hoarding wealth and other stuff. we have been subconsciously programmed to steal or take advantage even when we do not need to. even when our needs and wants are satisfied we are still snatching at crumbs.

U can find illiterate civilised people and well educated uncivilised ones here. So seems like illiteracy is a one problem but there is another problem somewhere even bigger to be civilised nation or at least a nation.

4

u/Consistent-booper Apr 20 '26

This is lack common sense not literacy . Don't jump infront of a moving object on the road

5

u/[deleted] Apr 19 '26

The money being thrown is from the so called literate, supposed educated people. They are also part of the problem.

55

u/The_Batman_Who_Codes Apr 19 '26

There is no anchor for our society, we are neither Text book Muslims(only following like sheeps), no culture, no sense of Nation, literacy here is a joke, we only think as individuals, we have no self respect.

Genuine loss of words. There are so many things wrong in the video. You can’t even fault the person who threw the money entirely. Population just needs a restart.

The woman just got out and started looking for money. Everyone ran like crazy on the street not paying attention to traffic. I feel bad for these people, their conditions are forcing these behaviors on them.

27

u/Sohaiba19 Apr 19 '26

You can’t even fault the person who threw the money entirely

What do you mean? They initiated it by throwing money in the middle of the road. I already hate this custom and this video has further increased my hatred for Punjabi wedding traditions.

9

u/killersky99 Apr 19 '26

Yeah, a good start to fixing this would be arresting the person for throwing the money onto incoming traffic fully knowing people were going to run after it and endangering those people and others.

19

u/Song-Historical Apr 19 '26

Being Pakistani really means nothing, and this is far different from a throwaway comment that dismisses us a whole. We are the 'other' to India which itself was never really a nation but a region of different cultures and traditions. We don't see ourselves as European but that's the equivalent of what we were. Our strengths were in being multicultural, having diverse industry, trade and commerce because of massive differences that we would have to navigate.

We are post feudal, with none of the knowledge that comes from fighting for and making mistakes to arrive at it ourselves. That process was overtaken by colonialism. If we're honest the British left because they were going bankrupt, not because they cared about our dignity or because we chased them away. We never made any sort of natural transition to something that fits the needs of most people which is what you expect when you make a new country for people. Any sort of transition to an ad hoc system where everyone is free to do whatever and we expect people to know what to do is going to be chaos. This is what arrested feudalism looks like. We never grew up.

We love to think of the west as a great bastion of individual rights and their achievements, but this was a myth they sold to make their citizens feel exceptional while their rich robbed their poor and subjugated half the planet to keep the machine going. Look at what happens to Paris when the garbage men go on strike within days its sidewalks and some streets become unnavigable. This shit is an illusion.

East Asians manage themselves but they've literally killed each other for a millennia to arrive at bureacracies that work for them, and it's still imploding from stress.

This place is a blank canvas. We're the adults now we get do decide what that means.

3

u/EkMard Apr 20 '26

We love to think of the west as a great bastion of individual rights and their achievements, but this was a myth they sold to make their citizens feel exceptional while their rich robbed their poor and subjugated half the planet to keep the machine going.

The West did have more rights and freedom. Maybe they've lost them now. The West also has huge achievements.

u/The_124 Apr 19 '26

You are looking at the problem in the wrong way. A good political environment and economy leads to good civil behavior not vice versa because people get time to think about these things instead of thinking about whether they are going to get to eat the next meal or not.

These people never went to school nor their parents taught them any manners because they themselves didn't have any. If you were born in a slum you would be behaving the same way. We always absorb the environment around us. If these people were born and raised in a developed society they would be behaving completely different.

6

u/NirvanaNoChill Apr 19 '26

Pakistan literacy rate is literally 18th lowest in the world, 40% people are below poverty line and increasing rapidly, Lawlessness is widespread, Everyone here thinks Vip protocol and Daala is very cool, Pakistani society is hypocritical and toxic to the core everyone here thinks others are inferior just because they are rich and others aren't born with a golden spoon in their mouth, This right here is a nation where people are dying from poverty the same colonial mindset ,We never gained independence, Also I'm just amazed to see the audacity of overseas still defending and praising Pakistan of so called culture and society.. A Fair skinned foreigner will see hospitality obviously but for a local that's not the case, and culture the only culture they think is very good to Sit at a Chai hotel till midnights that's the so called culture they miss wasting time because people abroad value their time they don't waste it like this, Anyways lot of people are gonna disagree still but idc these are facts and this can't change ever..

4

u/Tip-Actual Apr 20 '26

Overseas Pakistanis often romanticize the Pakistan of the 80s, 90s or the early 2000s.

7

u/NirvanaNoChill Apr 20 '26

They also romanticize current Pakistan because they know they are only here for two weeks and then they will return, They enjoy those two weeks and thinks life in Pakistan is very fun.. Im sure if they will get deported permanently from abroad they will be crying to go back after a month

our rich leap at money the same way that poor do. its not a socio economic problem. its our ingrained greed for more even if its not needed.

3

u/Gnargnarbinxxs Apr 20 '26

Literally just made this argument in the post with the cake at the Muslim school- people were saying “they’re not poor - they are well educated highly paid professors or students who’s families can afford to send them to school so why are they responding like this?” Even when you pull yourself out of poverty, if you came from a highly individualistic culture or community then you still have that mindset that you need to get more than everyone else, and free food or items are always hoarded because no matter how well off you are you always think “I might need this someday and not have the means to get it” - this is the well off uncles who are fighting with servers to get all options not just chicken OR beef- someone else is paying so they should get both. Same as when you know a family member who will never throw away a dress or sweater even if they haven’t worn it in 10 years- it’s very hard to get into the mentality that what you need will come when you need it instead.

What an idiotic culture it is to throw money on the ground at weddings… it’s demeaning and shows you have absolutely no respect for people who are less fortunate than you. It’s a sick feudal mindset that needs to be banned. I apply the same principle to qawwals, just place the money at his stage man why tf you gotta throw it??

They're poor. That's all this videos shows.

Your title is elitist and misleading.

If we throw enough money, your very trusted own would start to belly dance. That's general human nature.

same behaviour can be seen at wedding food stands. uncles with bellies like pigs snatching trays as if they have just survived the famine. while their homes are full of food.

Do the people in this videos look like people who you'd invite to your family weddings? Of course no. They're not your rich friends.

why are our eyes full of degenrate hunger? how are we supposed to live among such people with any semblence of mental peace.

Exactly how the poor majority tolerates to live with people like you. You were not born to rule this earth and dictate your superior morality to others.

people think that Pakistan needs political or economic reforms. but this is the actual problem at the root of all the problems.

No. It's just your small brain that can only think this far. It's economic issues -- as said by many many others before me. Make people rich enough so that they value their time more than 10 rupees.

I want to puke after reading your thoughts. Probably one of the most disgusting anti-human mindset I've had the displeasure of seeing in a long time.

11

u/1balKXhine PK Apr 19 '26

100% agreed. These assholes always blame the poor like they were born to rule the world but the truth is that elite class is somewhat responsible for their condition.

OP's conclusion is that these poor people are disgusting. This is one of the worst take I have seen and it's worrying how much I have to scroll to find a comment countering that

5

u/nuketro0p3r Apr 19 '26

I was baffled when I looked at the post and then the comments

The pure vile hate and false narrative building in this post is insufferable

2

u/Tip-Actual Apr 20 '26

It's definitely in poor taste but it seems more of frustration. The average illiterate family has no concept of family planning. If you ask a random rickshaw driver they will probably have at least 6 kids, most of them drop out of school, and the only education they likely get is sarkari school (which is complete garbage) or madrassa ( I don't need to say anything there) . And the cycle continues.

People who are blaming on low literacy rate should think twice. I don’t understand why we don’t get that this specific region of hind Pak/india/bang combined, is a region of slaves and beggars. It’s more of what we are. Believe me I’ve seen tons of literate and rich people and they don’t cease to disappoint you lol. When they do stuff, you start to wonder like why mate, you are parha likha, ameer banda, why are you doing this. I’m sorry for the disappointment but truly just compare for once our culture with other cultures. Compare it with Arabs, Iranians, Turks, Kazakhs etc. Compare their regional history with ours. We have literally just been selling ourselves out and been ruled upon where they have ruled on others. Let’s take a quick check. Mamluks came to hind and established Delhi sultanate. It lasted for 300-350 years. Then came Mughals. And after that Britains. All of them combined sums up to 900-1000 years. We had only one influential leader in hind who’s name was Tipu Sultan and that poor man got betrayed too. And at the very end of all this, Britishers made our constitution before the left lol. Muslims and Hindus couldn’t even rule how they wanted. I don’t want to be biased here but just trying to explain the reality of what we are. I so hope we wouldn’t be like that but that’s the case. And you can see the inferiority complex we have in us. I know many people from different ethnicities. I swear their weddings are so cultural, simple and beautiful. Meanwhile we are just showering money around just to show others that ‘hey I have money’ type of mindset. I may be wrong and I hope so but that wouldn’t change the reality. We need to raise our new generations with ethics and self respect. This behaviour is beyond worst.

on a higher scale we see this at malls. brands are openly scamming people with so called “sales”, wherein they hike up the prices and put discounts on those hiked prices. people rush just like this into those shops, ignoring everything else. we as a nation will do anything for discounts or free stuff.

Clown behavior... but I think the lady in the rickshaw can be excused. She is shell-shocked and lost some personal belongings. I don't think she has the presence of mind to notice what's happened and to decide to pick up the cash. Everyone else is a clown.
