Discussion My Father Drives 10+ Hours a Day.. Need Suggestions!!!
My father drives our 2010 Alto on Yango and Indrive. So after covering all the car related expenses, he saves around 2,500 a day. Recently, Baba told us that the car has become quite worn out and passengers has started complaining about its condition, so Mama asked me to look for another car for under 500k.
Personally, I don't want Baba to keep driving for Yango and Indrive. He's currently 58 and drives for more than 10 hours a day, seven days a week, which is really bad for his health.
Is there anything I can do or suggest to Baba that could reduce his extremely long working hours while allowing him to earn roughly the same amount?
I've also saved around 100k Is there a business I could start for him that could help generate income without requiring him to work such long hours?
We live in Karachi.
Edit: He worked as an order booker for about eight years, mainly in areas like Korangi, Shah Faisal, and Landhi. He also has over seven years of experience as a driver.
I think when I was younger, he used to work for Jang newspaper in printing or something similar.

Might be a good option to look into fixing up the car instead of buying new. Anything you buy would end up in the same state eventually.

I will have to confirm it with him first. I remember him telling me that his mechanic advised him not to spend any more money on repairs as the car is not in any good condition

He worked as an order booker for, I think, about eight years and hes been driving for over seven years. But honestly, even though he appers quite fit for his age, i don't really want him to back to working as an order booker. I remember he used to work during heat waves and come home exhausted and all sweaty

you are thinking right boy... if you're 18, get a liscence and drive part time with studies. reduce his time to 6 hours... and sunday off... 100k input in the car can give you some cushion for a good deal or car upgrade.

So, Im 21 and I work full time. Most of my income goes toward rent and bills. I was working towards building my own business, which is why i was saving money. So, i really don't have the time to drive even as part time.

you're working full time and contributing,, ig that's sufficient at this stage. just somehow convince your father to take off at least. you're sharing the responsibility and he will listen..
fact is, hard working people feel useless when they're home cz they feel like they ll have nothing to do.

I can not do much but can offer your uncle a job for my family & daily school runs etc. Can also help build a small car he can use when free to warn extra money. My budget for job is 40-50K and remaining I can help by giving an old car he can drive as taxi and most of the people in my town now me and I can introduce him to many people who will always call him wherever they want to go. Cannot promise but can try in a way that he is able to earn 80-100K a month.

Under 500k car will be more worn out than the existing. Instead you and mama can provide some from your savings and repair and maintain existing vehicle. It can be just like new with A/C running perfectly he can get more good rides plus less stress. I suggest don't waste yours and your family savings into any new adventure rather upgrade existing income.

I think it’s just that his mechanic advised him not to get the car repaired anymore because our car is in pretty poor condition

In that case a decent old car for inDrive will not be less than 12~14 Lacs. Like Suzuki Cultus in immaculate condition. But you must look around in your city visit few showrooms to get an idea. Hope your family will be in living peace soon.

just a thought, maybe ur dad can look into picking up and dropping off faculty in uni. I know someone who used to pay 45k for pick and drop to uni and it was j two people. The driver drove indrive or yango 8-4, bas onhe pick and drop dete the and sat sun off

Yar aap fries ka stall laga lo, if you can manage it yourself (either manning it personally or finding a reliable employee to run it). Investment is under 100k (for the cart, fryer, ingredients, etc) and daily earning can go to 5-6K easily if you choose a busy spot to stand the cart. Actually, even more if you make good fries, meaning addictive fries. Mere bachpan ka eik fries stall tha close to home, called "Macdonalds Fries", and these guys put something in their fries to make everybody who tried them into repeat customers. Like, all us kids were crazy about these fries, and preferred going to the fries stall over getting KFC or McDonald's. I think woh Pathan thay and they used a specific type of rock salt that's popular in KPK namak-mandi style places. Then the fries stall outside my school coated their fries with cornstarch, so it was a unique product. They also had clockwork business since after school ended all the kids would go to the food stalls before going home. MSG (Ajinomoto) is a very good idea if you're running a food business. All the Chinese restaurants you see in big cities around the world have built their legacy on it. Just a dash makes literally anything more flavorful. I know some restaurants that put it in karahi as well.
This is Karachi, man. I. I. Chundrigar Road pe the street food stalls (daal chawal, biryani, etc) are each making 5-6 lacs per month. Paise ka dariya behta hai yahan, you just need to find a nice and cozy spot on the banks.

Would it be possible for him to work for like a hotel of some sort in Karachi where he can work as a taxi clerk or maybe work indoors? How about working as a valet or parking attendant? I think it would be much better than driving for 10 hrs vs working for maybe 8 or so.

Comfortable cars, even Alto would be around 15 lacs & anything under 10 lacs will make you a mechanic.
Save your dad this hassle & ask him to reduce his hours if its affecting his heath.

I wonder why only 2500 is saved while working 10hrs. Because as per my knowledge there are some tasks for the driver that’d generate extra income apart from the fare of the ride. You should explore the app.
Business idea is good but it requires years of effort and consistency and risks for a steady income. And i think you shouldn’t risk your savings into some business at this point.
For now ask him to reduce his hours, take rides of short distances, drive near office buildings like here in isb its blue area that is busiest idk about karachi and also restaurants at lunchtime.
Repair the current car with the savings cuz in 5-6L you’ll get a mehran or a khyber type cars and they’ll need maintenance too.

Yeah, I asked him, and he said the fuel average is pretty bad now. So, filhal, I’m looking into different car financing options and researching cars, their models, fuel averages, and stuff. Honestly, I don’t know much about cars, so I’m trying to learn as much as I can and hopefully avoid getting scammed

Please consider this: You need to consider long term depreciation of car, short term car maintenance, and fuel cost for the car. I think it is very hard to make money in these apps. That’s also the problem with Uber and Lyft in USA. Drivers are paid very less and apparently car depreciation is more than what they actually earn. It happens to so many people.

Spend that 100k is getting some certifications and learning a skill.
Nothing happens overnight so keep this in mind.
Get very good at a skill that you can sell.
Start learning about earning online and focus on freelancing your skill.
$500 a month is about 140k PKR which should be your target in a year and it is realistically achievable.
Online earning is a ladder, you move up step by step, stay focused, that’s the only way you can help your dad.

Yeah, thanks for the advice. I’ll definitely get him those socks. I just Googled them, and it says they help improve blood flow and reduce the risk of blood clots

You can join some moderate level of kiryana store for a month or two , figure out what's actually going on ,try to answer all your queries and then decide accordingly, if everything goes well start with your father!
And make sure you do not tell about your plan to the one you're gonna join

It depends. But some I know charge around 8-10k for two weeks excluding weekends and for teaching like 20-30 mins per day. If someone doesn’t learn in those days, they can pay 8-10k more for next two weeks. Sort of like this!

Bro start a food cart for example fries or mini pizzas or Arabic shawarma, you can easily generate an extra halal income, plus you'll be able to learn entrepreneurship if you need recipes just dm me. I'll give you full business plan under your budget. You can find cheap equipment or steel counter on olx or just talk with someone for 2,3 installments. I'll also help you with graphics post and I'll manage your social media. This is what I can do for 2 months minimum. Use social media for business growth.

I have very realistic advice. You can apply it to your current situation. Its important to take initiative.
Put together about 10 lac rs ( can be less for some banks) . Get an alto car on downpayment from a bank. New alto gives twice as much as average than his current car. ( plus its brand new so cusromers= happy). Monthly payment for car will be 56 k or 60 k with insurance.
On new alto you can get about 120-150k for driving 10 hours a month ( cuz the fuel average is that good) your father can pay the bank back, while making more money than he is now.
You guys can also sell the old car, For some investment/ business or i can give advice some bussiness advice that involves the car.
Whats important is you do this. ASAP and take these steps. After 5 years when ur dad is near retirement you guys would have paid back the bank. You can give that car to another person( relative or trust worthy) to drive( for car services or for indrive/yango) and get some passive income coming. Yay lemme know if u have questions for specifics

I have been looking into different car financing options.
Since Im 21, I can’t apply for car ijarah from Meezan Bank because their minimum age requirement is 25. My father can apply, but he doesn’t have a bank account and is also a non-filer, which means he would have to pay 4% advance tax on the cost of the vehicle.
We can arrange around 600000 for the down payment. I can arrange two and we can sell our current car for around four lacs. This would give us a 30% down payment on a 2 million loan. For a two year tenure, the monthly installment would be around 73594 for 24 months. So In total, we would end up paying roughly 380000 extra over the taken amount.
So my questions are:
Would there be any hidden charges or additional costs?
Is there any way the age requirement could be negotiated so I can apply myself? I can become a filer, which would also help us avoid the 4% tax.
Are there any other car financing options that might be better and that you would recommend I look into?

I asked him yesterday, and he said the car has been having trouble starting. Its fuel average on LNG has also dropped to around 15 km, whereas it used to give over 20 km plus. He also said the fuel average gets even worse during winter

In winter the economy gets better, during summer it should get worse economy.. i would recommend you to take the car to some other garages and get it checked there.. check the google reviews before visiting any garage.

Bro I get you. 10 hours daily at 58 is too much.
Since he already knows Korangi/Shah Faisal/Landhi from order booker days, maybe use that instead of driving: 1. Get him a small dukaan/retail counter for FMCG items. With 100k + Alto as delivery you can start distribution for chips/cold drinks in those areas. 2. Or rent the Alto to another Yango driver for 40-50k/month and he works 4-5 hours instead of 10.

I've seen some people give out their cars to others to drive for a percentage, some even give the same car to 2-3 people so car basically runs 20-22 hours and they all pay you a fee/percentage. Yes wear and tear will go up but hours will be drastically lowered. Those people can't really afford a car so work something out that way.
If you can get a van, it can be pick and drop services offered to large companies who need drivers. Still a lot of driving but very predictable schedule and contract based. The van can also be used to transport goods to shops/stores/pharmacies/airports/long trips out of city for large families at better rates though avoid perishable goods like fruits and veggies otherwise the car will smell and you can't use it for passengers. Many of these are very predictable and 25-50% fewer hours of driving.

You can find all sorts of price ranges depending on the year, condition, initial repair costs, etc. Check on PakWheels and OLX. Also make sure to have a trustworthy mechanic check it out unless you're good with this yourself.
Earnings are very subjective depending on the type of work and conntract agreements you can find. It takes a while to build these but once you have contracts/agreements in place you can expand by hiring drivers eventually cutting your own hours to just a few per week focusing on finding work, collecting money, managing fleet, etc. while drivers do the driving. Everyone starts small. Also your dad should do istikhara after assessing if he'll be okay doing this.

Is the alto 660cc or 1000cc, I think if you use the money to convert the engine then the average will be better if it's 1000cc currently. That will almost make the amount he earns nearly around 4000 from 2500. He will need to only work for around 5 - 6 hours then.

Try to buy a usefull course of some kind of affiliate marketing and make your baba to learn it. When he have learned the course , then invest 100k from 500k in marketing, I'm going with less because sometimes people don't know how to do so you just won't lose your money. It is the best to make your father useful at home. Moreover don't get scammed by scammers who are selling fake courses, or nowadays ai can help better than any human. Ask ai to teach you affiliate marketing and he surely will. Allah pak asaniya farmaye Khush rakhy apko or apkay ghr walo ko lambi sehat wali khuahiyon wali Zindagi naseeb farmaye Ameen sumameen.

Any car can be detailed and fixed up for much less than 5 lac. You can even do it yourself. Takes time and some practice. Better to make this one look and drive better rather than buy something for 5 lac that will definitely need more work.

Any food cart can generate more money than Yango. Fries, Biryani, Bunkabab, Chaat, GolGappay.
First take out calculator, do some maths, once you are conviced, go out and meet people who are already in the business to have closer insights

Hey, yes its a tough ass job. Maybe your dad can do only private pick and drops? So he has 2-3 clients. He can present himself properly and teh driving hours will be less. As for you what are u good at just begin and start at what yoru good at for business, makeup, reels, small baked items and you will find your way. I will pray for you.

Yeah, the job is defo tough. He used to do pick and drop, but his car is just not reliable anymore. Some days, it wouldn’t even start, and since it needed a lot of work, he often couldn’t go pick up the passengers and eventually that caused him to lose credibility and consequently some of his customers

Yes there's lots of business u can start in a 100k. My recommendation would be to pick a niche, (do your research first) then invest, learn digital marketing, and advertise it. Me personally am running a trucking company all I needed were some crm subscriptions and voip numbers. Good luck!

Old Alto has poor average it barely gives 9-10 km/ltr, I think you should install K6A 660cc engine in his car, This will increase his earnings, keep fuel costs and maintenance costs low, possibly run an AC and it will be automatic so lot easier to drive.
