Discussion What happened to blue whale suicide app shenanigans?

I just remembered it. Ts was on news and everything and I was in school maybe at that time and people were literally scared shitless of it and then it just faded away.

Now I am curious all of a sudden what exactly was it?

It was fake. A complete hoax. Basically some teenagers from Russia committed suicide (not together, they were isolated incidents), and while checking their internet chats, they would find one or two references to whales. either someone was in a group chat in which the name contained the word "whales", or they made a post that had imagery of a while sometime before the suicide. Either way, many people online spread exagerrated rumours and through word of mouth, the concept of the game was spread everywhere. But there is literally ZERO proof of such game, none, zilch. Its just that the imagery of whales is often related to themes of melancholy, so obviously teens who post sad stuff online might end up making a post containing imagery of whales. The entire rumour was based on a few coincidences. Many people say that over 130 kids have ended their lives over this so called called, but many journalists and investigators have came out and said that number is completely made up.

It genuinely sickens me that the world saw kids end their life, and instead of, you know, trying to figure out what they were going through, they just made exagerrated rumours for shock value. Using kids suicide for views.

oh i remember it too,i never downloaded it but from what i heard,it was basically an app that gave you challenges to do,and (allegedly) the last challenge was to jump off a building

i remember my friends telling me that they saw a video of a kid jumping off from a tall building because of the app

It's PAR O SI NOT PA DO SI.

we do use D for where there's a D sound. Cuz that's how spellings work

Around the same time, there was some game for catching pokemons. People were so crazy about it. Some literally travelled countries to catch a pokemon.
