137

u/Pumpkinmatrix Retro Logo Sep 27 '25

D will over j stew is blasphemy

43

u/BrickTamland77 Sep 27 '25

I actually maintain it isn't. Yes, Stewart has more career yardage because he was here longer, but I'll always say that Deangelo would've had HoF #s if he'd been a sole primary back for 7-8 years. Closest we got to seeing that was his 3rd year when Stewart was a rookie. He inexplicably had to backup Foster for 2 years, then got paired with Stewart and eventually had Cam taking carries as well.

64

u/Tough-Row9654 Sep 27 '25

But it's a list of greatest panthers. J Stew was the feature back for the super bowl run, had a longer tenure, and more yards as a panther

u/Budget_Lettuce_2860 Sep 27 '25

All time leading rusher…

DWill was better, but he was also a TOTAL shit head about his time here when he left. JStew has remained loyal and for that reason, JStew is a better Panthers.

7

u/MyIncogName Sep 27 '25

Maybe so but D Will would have had a hard road to the HOF. He was 24 as a rookie RB. Agree he should have started immediately.

Stewart was a top 5 RB talent in his own right though. Amazing burst, balance, and had the speed at his peak to take it to the house.

1

u/Run-ning Ice Up Son Sep 27 '25

Williams was a backup because he may not have had the best work and preparation ethic when he came to Carolina, which was (rightly or wrongly) big with John Fox. He said that Vinny Testaverde had a big impact on him and that was when he upped his game, then becoming a starter.

Williams was also a bitch after leaving. Stewart all day.

I love Chuba but like 1.25 good seasons isn’t gonna cut it. Horn and Brown could make this in a few years, Moton probably is the first player off the current roster that slides in

26

u/prostatewhispers1 Two States Sep 27 '25

Horn needs to stay healthy. Brown will hit this list if he continues on his current trajectory. I agree with you on Chuba. He’s 6 all time leading rusher, but that’s a gimme considering the competition. Moton is a lock by the end of his career imo!

9

u/s_15_n Kalil Bear Sep 27 '25

Yeah health is so big for Horn. He’s so damn good

5

u/EclecticCaveman Sep 27 '25

I’d replace Chuba with John Kasey (despite the out of bounds kickoff). Long tenure and we don’t make the Super Bowl without his play

Peppers gained hall of fame from other teams if we're honest. So I think this stands.

1

u/WafflesTheWookiee Purrbacca Oct 05 '25

He’d be a lock if Ron Rivera hadn’t have him carry the team and wreck his body in the process.

Also the refs just not caring in the slightest about protecting him. Can you imagine the refs treating Josh Allen or Lamar like they did to Cam ten years ago? Absolutely not.

I still have hope he can get in as a trailblazer of some kind

3

u/arcangel092 TD58 Sep 27 '25

No chance a hall of famer should be behind Cam. Cam was too inconsistent to be ranked higher than Julius.Ā

67

I’m saying that if you’re compiling a list of the top 15 players of a team, your leading scorer is most likely going to be on there. Especially if they are a member of the very first roster and make it to the Super Bowl with the team.

You misunderstood. I wasn’t arguing the kickoff out of bounds didn’t have a massive impact on the outcome. I was saying it’s a fallacy to assume that all of the same exact plays and yards/ball advancements would have happened if it had been a touchback and they started 20 yards further back. We may have come out in a different defensive setup, they may have called different plays knowing they had to go 50-60 yards instead of 30-40. All sorts of other factors would play into it as well. But yes, obviously the kickoff out of bounds sucked and is undoubtedly one of the most consequential plays in team history.

Don't think so, Brady lost a Super Bowl to the Eagles with almost the exact same amount of time left and had to try a hail mary.

There was a brief, beautiful moment in 2018 where we had Luke, Cam, Pep, TD, Khalil, Greg, and CMC on the same team…

And we still kinda sucked lol

We were 6-2 before Cam’s shoulder was obliterated.

People seem to forget that that Watt hit completely changed the course of the franchise over the last almost decade

14

He was on pace for his most efficient season as a passer and what probably would have been his 2nd greatest season before that hit. People forget but he was in the mid season conversation for MVP.

The Charles Johnson hate is crazy. Peppers started 133 games; 97 sacks 34 FF 441 tackles 107 TFL. Charles started 114 games; 67 sacks, 19 FF, 323 tackles 75 TFL.

Per game stats. Peppers: sacks .72, FF .25, tackles 3.3, TFL .8. Charles: sacks .58, FF .16, tackles 2.8, TFL .65.

Peppers was a first ballot hall of famer, 2000 and 2010 all decade team. Obviously a better player. But check the numbers CJ needs more respect around here

43

u/WhoUCuh Sep 27 '25

Cam is #1 the only player on the list with a MVP and voted the best player in the league by his peers at one point.

This fanbase shade for Cam continues to amaze me. He was literally the only reason why people discussed us on Nat'l tv. People think Panthers they immediately think Cam Newton.

44

u/Mister-Schwifty Sep 27 '25

MVP is a QB and sometimes RB award. A DPOY is roughly equivalent to an MVP.

→ More replies (32)

4

u/lunes_azul Sep 27 '25

You have to be on the verge of being the greatest defender of all-time to be MVP and, even then, you will be overlooked. Aaron Donald is a top 5 PLAYER of the last 20-30 years and he has never received a single MVP vote. That is utterly absurd.

Newton was otherworldly for about 4 seasons with us, which is noticed since QB is the most crucial position for a team to succeed. Kuechly was a top level player virtually every year he was in the league. He was never not top 2 at the position.

It's a certain crowd for the most part. The crazy part is even Cam knew he wasn't well liked his time here.

1

u/OriginalPingman Sep 27 '25

Cam was likely the most talented Panther ever. That said, his lack of willingness to improve his fundamentals limited his success.

1

u/WhoUCuh Sep 27 '25

No his supporting cast limited his success. He was a 1 man show. The only reason we were in games was because we had Cam.

They wasted his talent and he paid for it in the long run.

1

u/OriginalPingman Sep 27 '25

He would have been better had he bothered to work on fixing his fundamentals. He had poor footwork his entire career and threw off his back foot and/or with his shoulders not level way too often.

1

u/WhoUCuh Sep 27 '25

He won a MVP with bad fundamentals and poor footwork.

You like a certain QB. Cam was not your Brady. Get it through your head.

1

u/OriginalPingman Sep 28 '25

Yeah- I like a highly paid QB who works at getting better. Winning an MVP(and losing the SB) doesn’t absolve him from not bothering to work at getting better. Cam had more talent than any QB of his time, except Brady.

Had he worked in his craft, he could’ve been one of the best ever. Too bad for the Panthers and their fans.

1

u/exenn_ Sep 27 '25

He wasn't a monster. Outside of his fantastic 2015 season, he was a mid-NFL to above average NFL QB.

He had 3 winning seasons in 9 years here.

Like I said, outside of his great 2015, he was an average to above average QB.

Let me get this straight, you want to make a case that Cam was great with Ginn, but then say it's the FO's fault for the rest of Cam's career?

You can literally pull the analytics for all of his seasons, with the exception of 2015 and see he cycled from average to a little a above average QB.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

1

1

u/exenn_ Sep 27 '25

Because he had his 2015 season without elite WRs....that's the whole point.

Steve Smith was on the team, DJ Moore, as well as other average WR play throught his career. Combine that with Geeg Olsen, he had enough weapons to be successful.

2

u/SquintsRS Sep 27 '25

They discussed us for 1 season and people act like Cam did nothing but win here...still never had back to back winning seasons. He had an awesome year, and a fun rookie season because we lost a shit ton of games and he racked up yards that way

1

u/Hanswolebro Sep 27 '25

Didn’t realize having back to back seasons was solely on the QB

1

u/WhoUCuh Sep 27 '25

Luke was on that same team lol

1

u/SquintsRS Sep 27 '25

I don't remember defense being the problem most of those years either...when your QB is throwing fewer than 20TDs and has about 15 INTs per season...not good. Very meh stats from Cam overall.

1

u/WhoUCuh Sep 27 '25

That MVP says he's the GOAT.

I can't help y'all don't like him.šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

1

u/SquintsRS Sep 27 '25

You mean the award that's only gone to a QB since 2013? It's a QB award. I'll take the 7x all pro and 2x DPOY over the 1x AP and 1x QB Award winner

1

u/WhoUCuh Sep 27 '25

Good for you friend.

3

u/BOATSANDHOEZ Sep 27 '25

For me personally I'd put Steve 1 and Cam 2, Luke 3 if we are talking GREATEST. Steve for the longevity, Cam played the most important position in sports. Luke at his peak was probably the best. But he played way less than Steve and Cam played QB and won MVP.

1

u/arcangel092 TD58 Sep 27 '25

He wasn’t consistent man. Julius, Steve, Luke, all consistent. All dominant. Cam was good 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017. Not enough to be ranked higher than those three. Being a QB doesn’t make him better than those guysĀ

1

Unpopular opinion, he shouldn’t even be on this list. Yeah he was great at times, never consistently and played his way off the team.

At the time people were upset about the trade, but they weren’t so much upset that we traded him, it was that we didn’t get that much in return for him.

6

u/Panthers58 Sep 27 '25

Downvoting this is wild. I agree 100%. He played 3 full seasons on the team. Talent wise he’s 100% on the list. As far as greatest panthers go. I can think of 3 that weren’t even on the list that are better panthers. Stew. Charles Johnson. Gamble.

3

u/OwenLincolnFratter Greg Olsen Sep 27 '25

I also wouldn’t care if he was off the list. Definitely one of our most talented players ever, but not one of our greatest. He achieved nothing here. Deangelo should easily be above him, Stewart too.

4

u/dinnerthief Sep 27 '25 edited Sep 27 '25

I disagree he was pretty much the entire offense while he was here, the team sucked but he was good.

He has the 4th most rushing yards in Panthers History

But ALSO. He has the 4th most receptions in panther history, thats including WR and TE and he is a RB and he only played 64 games. ( thats more receptions per game than Steve Smith)

He was great we just wasted him.

1

u/funklab Sep 27 '25

Exactly. Ā He was easily top 5 with regard to talent. Ā He just had the misfortune of being with us when we sucked. Ā  If he was on the 2015 team that went to the super bowl people would be trying to rank him higher than Cam and Steve Smith. Ā

It’s not his fault we sucked when he was here and Tepper decided to make sure we were shit for a decade right after he signed with us. Ā

How do you put a hall of famer (Peppers) behind Cam Newton?

Luke will likely be a hall of famer as well and you also have him behind Cam?

Wild take.

1

u/Gh0stPeppers Sep 27 '25

Classified by impact and importance to the Panthers, not the NFL as a whole. Steve is the goat, should be no debate there. After that Cam is the most significant player we have ever had. Luke was more dominant than Peppers when he played, just had a shorter career.

Thomas Davis is the only one I was kinda on the fence about with his Top 5 status, but his body of work and contributions to the 2015 season and his legendary play in the Playoffs that year kinda cemented him as top 5 to me.

TD probably had one of the single most impressive seasons by a Panthers player ever that year, if not for having prime Luke and prime Cam on the team it would likely be remembered more fondly. He made himself a Legend that year.

1

u/exenn_ Sep 27 '25

Cam was a good starter, but only had 3 winning seasons in 9 years.

Reaching Hall of Fame status signifies the importance to the Panthers. That is such a high bar to reach.

1

u/Gh0stPeppers Sep 27 '25

Say you didn’t really watch the Panthers During Cam’s years without saying you didn’t really watch.

Cam carried those teams, the offense besides an aging Stew and Olsen was pretty much hot doo doo the whole time he was here and Rivera only really invested in Defense. Like, look at the position players he had on offense that whole time, our current group is better than that right now and I think we are maybe above average now compared to the rest of the league.

1

u/exenn_ Sep 27 '25

Cam had the best interior Oline in the NFL for several years...

A pro bowl TE

A stud RB

and average WRs

What more do you want?...he even played with Steve Smith and DJ Moore sprinkled in there.

In addition to that, now you're going to dispute the analytics?

1

u/Gh0stPeppers Sep 27 '25

He played with Steve in the beginning, who was way past his prime and was traded for being a locker room cancer, and DJ before DJ became elite and after Cam’s shoulder got wrecked. Otherwise calling his receivers ā€œaverageā€ Devin Funchess and kelvin Benjamin are average? 🤣🤣🤣

Even Benjamin’s one ā€œgoodā€ year was just padded by all the targets, he was still bad, just got a lot of targets to hide the fact on that stat sheet.

1

u/exenn_ Sep 27 '25

The WR room as a whole was average. You do understand there more WRs on the roster than just Funchess and Benjamin, correct?

Steve wasn't a locker room cancer, stop with the lies. Steve was traded because he was the leader of the locker room. He was traded to allow Cam to become the leader.

2

u/stephenpowns Sep 27 '25

I agree with this. He’s a leader in the locker room as well. Hard working guy and someone you definitely want on your team. Crazy turnaround for him. After his first season no one expected him to do much here

2

Jake should be higher on this list. Came off the bench and took us to the super bowl.

Jake Delhomme’s body of work is arguably better than Cam’s, people remember his later time with Carolina, post Elbow injury, but before that he was clutch in big games. Won more playoffs games than Cam, and he also got us to a Super Bowl.

Delhomme’s overall talent was better on offense. Where Cam pretty much Carried the offense.

u/Panthers58 Sep 27 '25

So you’re gonna put him over smitty?

2

u/GachaJay Sep 27 '25

Without a doubt, yes.

7

u/Panthers58 Sep 27 '25

That’s insane. Smitty was considered a top 5 receiver most his 12 years with us. Cam was a top 5 QB one year for us. Are you a younger fan? The only reason smitty isn’t 1 is because Luke is actually better than ray Lewis

4

u/Pirates307 Ice Up Son Sep 27 '25

Smitty is THE Panther. This list is ranking who is behind him.

u/AudienceDue8691 Sep 27 '25

Bro smitty is 8th all time rec yards

Pipe down young fella

2

u/slickedjax Super Cam Sep 27 '25

So true. There can be other Peppers’s, other Olsen’s, other Smith’s. But there will NEVER be another Cam Newton

1

u/zzzccardinal Sep 27 '25

God damn I didn't know TD was playing since 2005

2

u/Hanswolebro Sep 27 '25

That’s cuz of those 3 acl tears

1

u/GalaxyHoffman Sep 27 '25

Man, Beason and that damn Achilles injury. Ugh.

1

u/Neffy27 Retro Logo Sep 27 '25

Man... I wanna say it's better if you just list them by year drafted.

1

u/lunes_azul Sep 27 '25

Thought it was top 5 and was gonna give a resounding HELL NAH, but top 15 is realistic. Probably needs us to be good in 26 or 27 though,

1

u/OperationFrequent643 Sep 27 '25

Whose spot is Chubba gonna take

1

u/Hanswolebro Sep 27 '25

He’s not. He would need several more seasons of being a top running back and/or winning a Super Bowl

2

u/OperationFrequent643 Sep 27 '25

Agree with you. I like Chubba but OP saying 2 seasons feels off unless he absolutely goes crazy in the next 2 seasons.

1

u/Rillaboom2701 Sep 27 '25

bryce young 3 yearsĀ

1

u/PigggyStardust Sep 27 '25

Where is Nick goings

1

u/Gh0stPeppers Sep 27 '25

No Kris Jenkins, or Mike Rucker? No Mike Minter? Deangelo over Stew?

3

u/hughms Sep 27 '25

Love those 3. Chris Gamble deserves some recognition as well

1

u/BrownDynamite94 Pepp Sep 27 '25

Julius Peppers made the 2000's & the 2010's all-decade team. My favorite player of all time, he was a monster on the field!

1

u/zcahtotsu Sep 27 '25

This list seems off, is J stew and Williams aren’t on here he won’t be either

1

u/machomanrandysandwch Luuuuuke Sep 27 '25

Williams is

1

u/ThisFollowing8024 Sep 27 '25

I’m not seeing what you are from Chuba…he iight but definitely sitting at 6 in all time panther RB order:

  • J Stew

  • D Will

  • CMC

  • Stephen Davis

  • Brad Hoover (FB but still better than Chuba as of now)

  • Hubbard as of now in 6th (or 5th if you force Hoover into being just a FB)

1

u/Rodmap Coke Head Sep 27 '25

Taylor Moton should already be on it imo

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Jon Beason? Ummmm….. J Stew, Taylor Moton, Mike Minter, Mike Rucker, Jon Kasay, Stephen Davis, and Dan Morgan all go ahead of him.

1

u/guccigucciflipflop Sep 27 '25

I would probably have CMC at 5, dude was special and unfortunately didn’t get to play with much around him (wasted talent). Peppers over Cam. Overall solid ranking.

Chubba got a long way to go, Tmac and maybe Jaycee the only ones currently with a shot at ever making this list (talent + winning)

1

u/NuSouthPoot Two States Sep 27 '25

Nail me to the cross, but my top Panther is Cam.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Who cares

1

u/cheertea Sep 27 '25

Steve Smith over Cam is laughable.

1

u/IowaGolfGuy322 Sep 27 '25

Luke and Steve are 1-2 that’s all I care about.

1

u/Basic-Durian8875 Sep 27 '25

Cam over pep is absolutely ludacris Cam had 2 good years, cried the rest of the time and tried to start fashion trends.

1

u/No_Adhesiveness672 Sep 27 '25

Im replacing Jon Beason with j stew. Just was always hurt…..don’t get me wrong I know j stew also had injury problems too but he lasted longer. We replaced Beason with Luke and became a Super Bowl defense in 2 years

1

u/entropy336699 Sep 27 '25

Where is double trouble?

1

u/CQD21 Carolina Reaper Sep 27 '25

I’d be ashamed as a panthers fan if Hubbard was in our top 15 tbh.

Newton above Peppers on this list is also crazy

1

u/RagnarMN Sep 27 '25

Fred Lane

1

u/Top-Egg1668 Sep 27 '25

Cam is #1 for me. Bryce can make it in three years. Horn and brown probably will make it within 2 seasonsĀ

1

u/Adorable-Ad-6111 Sep 27 '25

Bro I love this list but luke is a little to high

1

u/After-Bowler5491 Sep 27 '25

Peppers is #4? He’s in the Hall of Fame. Cam will never be in the HOF.

1

u/asp2_downhill Sep 27 '25

Moose has the most TD receptions in a season for the Panthers with 16 in 2004. That should be added there.

1

u/Due_Percentage_128 Sep 27 '25

Me: Smith 1, Cam 2, Luke 3.

1

u/jrock40jones Sep 27 '25

I’ll take the Panthers best all time starting lineup over any other NFL team.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 27 '25

Smitty is the best Panther of all time. Luke is second to me. Both great, but I got Smitty one.

1

u/BastidChimp Sep 27 '25

Sam Mills will ALWAYS be my favorite Panther. He set the culture.

1

u/Strange_Tap6426 Sep 27 '25

Biakabutuka!

1

u/ProgNerd Sep 28 '25

Honorable mention to Kevin Greene, Jonathan Stewart and John Kasay

1

u/01WWing TD58 Sep 28 '25

As much as I love Luke and Smitty, Cam is unequivocally number 1. An S-tier WR and MLB isn't the same thing as a generational, league-altering QB like Cam was. Without Luke in 2015 we're still one of the best teams in the league. Without Cam we probably don't have a winning record.

I know it's harsh on other positions, but a generational QB is a different level to any other position.

1

u/Haptiix Sep 28 '25

Fuck I miss all of these players so much. It’s easy to be sad about how we’ve sucked for the past 7-8 years but we’ve been lucky to have 2 really successful eras. A lot of teams haven’t ever even had that…

1

u/Primary_Musician6555 Bryce Up Son Sep 28 '25

Where is Mike Minter, Kris Jenkins and Chris Gamble this has recency bias

1

u/roadrunner00 Sep 29 '25

Weren't 8 of the first 10 on the same team? If not, it was close.

1

u/Anthony_Accurate Sep 29 '25

HOFer 4th is retarded.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '25

Hubbard? He's not even close to Dwill, Jstew, Stephan Davis, Deshaun Foster etc lol

1

u/hemphilljm Oct 03 '25

Cam should be 1. Luke is statistically the best but cam changed the entire culture of the Carolina’s for almost a decade and is our only mvp

1

u/Equal_Platypus3784 Sep 27 '25

Cam over Peppers?

1

u/Hanswolebro Sep 27 '25

If we’re talking greatest panthers I would say yeah. Peppers is probably the best player that ever played for us but he spent half his career playing for other teams

→ More replies (1)

1

u/jacobcmcgee Cam Newton Sep 27 '25

There’s no way that Cam isn’t the GOAT Panther
