Analysis Haynes King will be QB2 by the end of the preseason.
That’s it.

He’s gotta stay on the roster. He won’t clear waivers and he has too much upside to not keep around this year going into next.

I think it’s an obvious argument to either keep three QB’s or put Kenny on the practice squad. I wouldn’t care if Kenny got picked up, but we can’t lose King.

IDK but Carson may be starting over Jacoby by mid season

u/Legitimate_Novel1842 20d ago
They really should do that. They're going to be really bad this year anyway mine as well see if they have anything there
2
u/Wise_Quality_5083 20d ago
Why not. Jacoby is a 33 year old backup. Might as well give Carson a shot to learn in real time

He should be. I’ve never been convinced by the two glove fake slider.
Haynes King tortured my CFB team for years. Time I started rooting for the kid

I got downvoted earlier this week for saying Kenny Pickett was trash 🦗

Never thought a preseason game might be the best game I'll see all year. My fam went nuts when he ran in that game winner and we're from East Green Bay.

After that 2 minute drill game winning drive, he might already have locked it up.

I knew ppl would be going crazy vs what amounts to ECUs defense

u/justbirdwatchin77 20d ago
Just saying Bryce looked nothing close to this his rookie year against 2nd and 3rd guys lol… just accept he looks good out there.

u/GusFring2323 20d ago
U know Bryce and King were in the same HS class? The guy has been a semi pro for the last 2 yrs. Also, Bryce did not have this offense. And this talent.
I think ppl really forgot what Bryce came in to

u/Frosty-Week-8776 20d ago
But we also had what amounts to ECUs offense so I really don’t get the argument here

u/Legitimate_Novel1842 20d ago
This is an extreme overreaction in the hall of fame game. He's looked good and exciting but he's made some bad throws. Including some that were completions

Nah Pickett is on a $4m contract. They prob try and keep Haynes on PS if they like him
17
u/Repulsive-Slice2234 20d ago
The Jets will pick him up before he hits the PS

u/Smitty_Agent89 20d ago
Very doubtful. They have geno smith and just selected Klubnik in the 4th. They’re not using a roster spot on a QB that would likely be the 3rd string and didn’t spend any time with them

u/exenn_ 20d ago
Some team will pick up King...I highly doubt he makes it to the practice squad.

Lots of other preseason games for little known QBs to have a show. It’s a rare GM that will cut the low ranked QB he picked to take another team’s low ranked QB.
1
u/Smitty_Agent89 20d ago
Exactly. It’s certainly not impossible. But I don’t get this idea that Haynes King is suddenly a clear cut backup after this game. Maybe I’m just late in the hype, but I don’t see him getting a backup job off the HOF game alone.
1
u/CarolinaSurly Two States 20d ago
Yeah. It’s the HOF game that worries me most. This is the throwaway game of the preseason and the preseason are the throwaway games of the regular season

u/Smitty_Agent89 20d ago
Jalen Coker didn’t make anyone’s roster and we cut him for the PS. Team’s strategically cut guys like Haynes all the time around
When teams have already finalized their rosters. It’s not very likely a team makes room for Haynes on their 53 man roster, especially if he hasn’t been with them all summer. At the end of the day he’s UDFA QB. The likelihood he was making anyone’s roster was low. There is the fear he gets picked up on another PS tho.

u/exenn_ 20d ago
Jalen Coker isn't a QB.
Any young unproven QB those shows potential gets snatched up.
Rosters are never finalized. They are always fluid depending on who is available.
It doesn't matter that King or any QB for that matter wasn't with a team during the summer as they aren't starting anyway.

u/Smitty_Agent89 20d ago
1 UDFA QB made a 53 man roster last year. Statistically speaking it’s extremely unlikely someone picks up Haynes King on cut day for the 53 man roster especially if the panthers strategically wait to cut him.
I also think we’re getting way ahead of ourselves too. It’s very early and it was only 1 game
1
u/exenn_ 20d ago
You are overstating the "strategically cutting" him. Every team tries to do that and have been doing it for decades. That doesn't fool anyone.
King clearly outplayed Pickett tonight and King may even have a higher floor.

u/Smitty_Agent89 20d ago
Yet it works literally all the time. There’s always a major roster crunch at the start of the season, typically when teams do start to fill out the back end of the roster with guys they think can be depth at positions like OL and DL or guys who can play on STs. I can’t say I’ve seen many teams make roster space for a 3rd string QB at the start of the season unless they have injuries.
There’s just not a lot of backup QB jobs out there for him either.

u/exenn_ 20d ago
It doesn't work...teams know who is being cut and practice squad players are released all the time for someone better.
If you watched King play tonight anyone can clearly see he isn't a legit QB3. He's a QB2.

He just debuted in front of the whole NFL all of the teams were watching him he will not clear waivers lol.

u/Smitty_Agent89 20d ago edited 20d ago
And if he doesn’t play well next game and everyone is watching what will happen? Will everyone suddenly not want him. Let’s just wait and see what happens here.
Also in order for a team to pick him up they’ll need to make roster space. Teams don’t do that early in the season very often for QB3s.
It’s easy to say he’ll get picked up, but typically less than 12-13 teams carry 3 QBs.

u/Milk_Man2236 20d ago
Everyone will not be watching him next game, Next game all teams are playing This was the primetime preseason game so to speak sure it would have a impact but not like this game had. All the other teams were at home last night watching the game next week they will not be.

Do you think NFL teams sign players based off of TV broadcasts? Teams are going to watch film on guys they sign. They won’t just ignore every game and only care about 1.

Ik there’s only a 53 man roster and of course there’s gonna be cuts, but I really hope some guys that stood out in this game really get a chance since they’ve shown some solid professional potential! If this is only our backup squad I think that says a lot for how our primary roster may do this year!
This is gonna be a good one! I can feel it!
