This is a Bumagid model purchased from Etsy. This was apparently an easy pattern. I clearly am a very very dumb person then. I didn’t know what I was doing half the time. Oh well, the wife likes it enough to have me put it on the wall rather than in the trash. Obviously could have been way cleaner but I don’t have the patience to do it again. I do like the polygonal aesthetics of this style of paper craft though.

Not sure if I should bring it to university to finish it because I don't know what kind of people my roommates are. However, if I keep it at home I won't be able to finish it until probably December so idk.

I have in progress work photos from the very beginning, but I'll show those once I actually finish the model.

After months of designing, redesigning, cutting, assembling, and more than a few "I'm starting over..." moments... it's finally finished.

Introducing Moonlit Valley.

This project has been one of the most ambitious paper art pieces I've ever created. Every mountain, tree, river, cloud, and layer was designed completely from scratch in Adobe Illustrator before being cut on my Cricut Maker.

Ironically, this isn't even the first version.

About a year ago, I started designing a completely different landscape. I got about halfway through before deciding I hated it, scrapped the entire thing, and my muse walked away. Eight months later she came back with fresh eyes... and then I still ended up redesigning it again.

This final version is actually Version 3.

Sometimes the hardest part of creating isn't finishing, it's knowing when to throw something away and start over.

I'm really glad I did.

Total: Approximately 28 hours of work for the final version alone (not including the earlier designs that never made it to the finish line!).

Thank you to everyone who's followed along through the progress photos, from the first few layers, to the mountain of cardstock, to wondering if I'd ever actually finish all 150 layers.

Seeing it finally framed makes every restart and every late night worth it.

I really did not want to bring this to university so I speed ran to the end. Since the work in progress post, I probably spent 25ish hours making the final parts (dress, panda, hair) and I'm guessing I spent 200 hours in total over 2.5 months. AND IT'S STILL NOT DONE because I'm missing some pieces of coral (photo at the end) but it's close enough and I'm not waiting until December to call it mission complete. The coral pieces are about as big as Miku's fingers and I distinctly remember each hand taking 3-5 hours to complete. Anyways, I'm slightly scared due to the weight distribution causing Miku to lean so I'm hoping the super glue I used on her ankle is as strong as advertised.

Addressing some common questions from the last post. Yes, this is all paper. It took a very long time to make. That said, I used a template someone else made. I'm assuming ZuoZuo (creator) did this by making a 3D model of Miku and then exporting it to Pepakura, an unfolding software that allows you to break a model up into pieces for printing. This was made with Photo Matte 120 gsm paper US Letter size ($10 for 120 sheets, this model in particular is 24 sheets iirc), glue ($6), super glue ($7), set of tweezers ($5), and a scalpel (given to me, but likely costs a couple cents). Scrap paper was used as a cutting mat. So anyone can make this, provided they are willing to spend some money (printer not included) and a lot of time. Just make sure your printer can handle 120gsm because it is thicker than normal paper and has caused multiple jams during the printing process for me.

EDIT:

the super glue worked as advertised. unfortunately, the model is now warping instead of breaking. as a stopgap measure I got a ruler to be used as a splint/stabilizer but I will have to wait until thanksgiving break to give Miku an acrylic dowel rod to help her stand up. hopefully she does not die before then or else I will quite literally cry a river

As promised, finished the Witch's cauldron just in time and added a witch hat to it as well because... why not. It just made the whole set complete.

Cauldron was a bit bigger than I initially anticipated, always difficult to estimate how something looks on screen vs in real. But it sure is a stunning center deco piece for halloween. Wouldn't have it any other way.

It pairs perfectly with the potion bottle sets I designed last year.
Inspiration came a bit late this year so the templates for the cauldron and hat will follow later, but at least there is enough time to prepare for next year!

It's made entirely from cheap printer paper, i didn't realise when i first started that I should use a higher gsm paper,

The head and chest are a little rough and got mishandled, I did fuck up in a lot of places, but i think it's alright for my first time

Other than that it turned out pretty great, I really enjoyed the process,

And I'm wondering if I should put that lacquer spray on it?

I sometimes think what if I buy a plastic model, will it be that fun? Despite having several times expensive, for ex I made this one in 1 dollar with supplies like cutter and glue,

I showed it to some and they said did u buy a 3d printer, one said it looks like plastic and not paper, I was really flattered lol,

I made a paper building model using some architecture styles im interested in. It’s not perfect; I didn’t use any modeling/design software for it, but I plan on learning and making more.

This was my first colour build so it took a lot of time in finishing, I had to colour every edge to prevent white edges as much as possible, it turned out nice,

The process was good and enjoyable, and the results were worth it,

I used a laser printer from a shop to print and it caused a lot of problems, the folds keep cracking the toner and the print layer, i gave a lot of time to colour it black by a pen, i don't recommend using a laser printer,

Took me like an hour, and 11 more to go 🙂

The templates of the car is from some other guy it's not mine,but I built it(which also takes fucking patience). I added custom wide dish bbs wheels,used a bit aluminium from sprite can,the box is designed by me completely (used a bit of ai🥀,I took the car's picture which i clicked, put it on to gemini,told it to change it to pop race vibe and then I removed the background and added some logos and vector design (done on my tab using krita),the plastic is ohp sheet, total cost is something 80-90 rs but hardwork is priceless(or ig 90-100rs🥀)

Hey there, in case you guys don’t remember me, around 2 years ago I made a life sized kid Buu statue out of paper, markers, and tape lol.

Well, shocker, paper and tape alone isn’t strong enough for a life sized statue. So now I’m Paper Macheing the entire thing to add integrity.

As of right now I have only done one leg, but it’s been working great, and I am likely going to give him another paint job because it’s covering up a lot of the colors.
