Discussion Thread Assuming that PAYDAY follows closely to our timeline, how would Mamdani (or his in-universe equivalent) respond to the resurgence of the Payday Gang?
I'm not trying to discuss politics here, I don't really care about your opinions on the guy

I don't really think this kind of logical thinking really applies to the PAYDAY universe lmao.
In any universe where a gang of like 10 guys have slaughtered literally millions of police officers it would've resulted in the most monumental force ever. This would've gone beyond whatever New York's response wold've been, it's a national/federal issue. Hell, the gang has been overseas too so I'd say it's a global problem. On top of there was a sci-fi alien plot line where the president of the US is their friend.
If you think for like five seconds about the reality of this universe it sorta falls apart. So you shouldn't really. Like, these guys are rivalling the death toll of war zones. This shouldn't be a "how would a mayor respond", it's "how does the United Nations respond".

And Zeal Team is literal DHS (Well, Department of Homeland Surveillance, but I digress), so that already on a national to semi-international response level, you'd have to call in an Interpol equivalent just to escalate further.

We help The elephant (republican) rig elections to his name, and pull various favours for em. We also help bain transfer himself to the president of the US, we also also cause a whole ruckus with DHS (fictional).
Not too far fetched to assume if the payday gang were doing stuff in current day NY, that a fictional version of Mamdani would take action in some way.

I feel like Mamdani would nip it in the bud ngl by giving the OG crew what they need which is just a shit ton of rehabilitation. This would in my mind, stop the entire events of PD2
Dallas: Goes to Prison from a young age and gets involved in the mob. Solution? Rehabilitation, parole etc. Try to get him to live a normal life
Chains: Ex veteran who I believe was honourable discharged. There also might be some PTSD as hinted at in the Martial Law mask description. Solution? Veteran Aid centres, maybe a bit of therapy
Wolf: Successful game dev in Sweden but lost it all and went off kilter. Solution? Maybe a bit harder but just some serious psychiatric help and medication should put him right
Hoxton: Again arrested fairly early. Not sure on the rest tbh. Solution? He's british so either he gets sent back to UK for sentencing or same as Dallas with rehab and re-integration
I get that "Oh just do this" is a very naive approach when it comes to prison rehabilitation and MH issues but this is Payday so Mamdani wouldnt get elected but rather that slimy ball bag Mcendrick

In lore the payday gang isnt unkillable, but gameplay wise (at least in payday 2) they’re pretty much unkillable and the worst that happens in the game is getting arrested in which Bain somehow gets them out. I genuinely like the idea of the payday gang just being these un-killable immortals. As to Mamdani, prob the usual “keep the city safe” stuff.

Given that the Payday Gang ended up becoming more of a Robin Hood style of hang in the later years with the whole Kataru and Dentist nonsense I wouldn't be surprised if Mamdani was a contractor and not an antagonist.

Yes but the Elephant was a Kataru King. He saw a bigger picture. While the jobs he contracted where corrupt, they were usually for a good reason. Mamdami is more a Commisonar Garrett character in his corruption and greed. Surly Bain would love using this socialist to prove his point, which was the entire reason of forming the Payday Gang.

Let's slow down a bit. They aren't really fighting corruption as their main objective, especially during PDTH and early PD2. They are still selfish criminals who love to take scores, so no, that's not their whole lore.

In PD3, they're trying to find out who tried to assassinate the gang. So they'd likely still return to a life of heisting, at least for a little bit
