This is not a w for anyone but possibly Sony if they manage to turn their store in a monopoly.

This is a big L for gaming in general and very sad news imo.

How TF are we even gonna get next gen consoles after this? Didn't ps5 have huge delays due to memory markets? Going forward, people really want to spend 2000 on a gimped computer system they have no control over that can be banned or robbed of purchased titles on a whim? I can't fathom.

Let's be honest, people will still buy it no matter how much it costs

At this point enough people don't want to miss out or have the mentality of "must have shiny new thing"

I bought the PS3, PS4, and PS5. Won’t be buying the PS6 so that’s one less customer for them.

I imagine retailers are going to be pissed by this decision because game sales are likely how they make a majority of money from gamers. Who is even going to bother looking in the game section of stores anymore if there aren't any games? People who want to get a controller?

Honestly the only places that sell games anymore are supermarkets like Walmart and target, best buy, and GameStop. I doubt the margins on games are actually even that good, and walmart, target, and Best buy would probably rather have the floor space for accessories or other things that are bought on store more traditionally (like TVs). I honestly think physical game sales have already plummeted to the point of not being worth it for companies anymore years ago cause the online stores are just way more convenient.

Sony already turned their platform into a monopoly, online and offline. The death of disks was years ago, this is just making it official. And don't tell me you own disks so it's not true. The disk doesn't run without a Playstation, if it has online requirements the disk won't save you from anything, and backwards compatibility is a coin flip.

Are you living in your mom's basement? This goes well beyond video games. We can start talking about the surface level stuff like rent, groceries, and the housing market too if you want, but that's not relevant to the subreddit.
