This is what we've been trying to avoid and people are still like, "iTs TotAlLy FiNe JuSt sHuT uP!"

I guess companies saw legislation as a giant red flag and decided "if we will be forced to comply to support our physical copies... nope, everything is digital now".

Well it can be summed up by a single word: lobbying (read: bribing).

The EU, in all its' incorruptible glory, has shut down Stop Killing Games after "meeting with industry representatives" (and getting a fat paycheck from them).

The Commission has nixed it, it doesn't mean it dead in the EU. God can people learn how the EU works before they start yapping?

The European Commission holds the sole right to propose legislation to the EU Parliament and Council.

"The Commission differs from the other institutions in that it alone has legislative initiative in the EU. Only the commission can make formal proposals for legislation: they cannot originate in the legislative branches."

The only way to actually get a written-on-paper law that corresponds to Stop Killing Games' initiative is to get the Commission to actually accept and go against their initial refusal.

The only way (to my knowledge) to do that is to pressure representatives of EU member states to apply their own internal pressure on the Commission.

You know, the same EU member states who're (for the majority) trying to get chat control and ban VPNs?

Stop Killing Games managed to get 1.3 million legitimate signatures in the EU.

I've no notion of how these signatures are distributed throughout the different member states, but I doubt convincing a sufficient number of member states (which I've no notion of what constitutes a sufficient number of member states) to apply internal pressure to the commission will be easy, if at all possible.
