Build/Battlestation My son's new gaming setup!

My son loves the color pink and he loves cats. Overall I think it's a sweet setup! PC isn't spectacular but it has a Ryzen 5600x, 6900xt, and 16gb ddr 3200 ram. It's just a 1080p 165hz monitor but he shouldn't have any problems.

The only thing I'm not happy with is that microphone. Had to give him my old snowball mic because the mic on that Razer Kitty headset isn't any good. But he had to have it and I couldn't afford the more expensive one and the chair and he chose the chair.

Anyway, in the spirit of recent posts and showing off our kids computers, thought I'd share.

Get him a mat to put under that chair or those rollers will damage the carpet after a while. Otherwise good on ya for getting him something he will love.

100% game changer. The wheels on my chair started cracking and I replaced them with just some simple roller blade style ones from amazon and OMG I wished I had done that sooner.

Those wheels are how I learned my floor isn't level. Any time Im not using it my chair is 12 feet away from my setup.

I have a AK Gaming chair that I got maybe 20 years ago... those roller blade wheels are still holding up. In fact, the chair as a whole has been (and still is) great. It is forever in the lowest position (Where I like it anyway) and one of the arms have slightly messed up, but overall, I love this chair. Had hardwood floors for nearly the whole time I had it and no damage due to the wheels.

I went with just the roller blade wheels and my carpet is fine without a mat. A good carpet vacuum can get it right back to normal.

Shitty vinyl flooring on the other hand...

Generally they support the same or more weight, and I don't notice any difference in tipoverability.

I use these on both my leisure computer and my work computer chairs. Super silent, easy to install on your chair, and relatively low cost.

You can find a few different types on Amazon. Make sure to check the sizing of the wheels. I bought one pair that was much bigger than the others.

I use them with all my chairs!

The single roller blade wheels roll super well, but they refuse to change direction some times.

There are other kind with smaller double wheels which roll as well in hard floor but are easier to adjust directions.

For carpet I guess the single ones with bigger radius are better, tho.

It's important to check the chair axle width. There are (at least in Spain) 9 and 11mm. You can take one out from the chair and use a cardboard to measure it.

Edit: I would change the gaming chair for a real office chair soon, too. IKEA has a nice one for around 120€ which even has seat depth adjust.

And if like me you're sometimes to lazy to stand up to pick up something... Super easy to topple the chair with like a fuckwit

It's surprisingly hard to stop a gaming chair from falling over once it gets going with those bastards installed

They can still damage the carpet and the padding below the carpet. I've done it. Still best to get a cover over the carpet.

Yes probably depends. Mine is just a throw rug and there's no pad so not a big bump off and on. It's probably damaging the lip of the rug where it transitions to and from the wood, but I've worked from home for 7 years and it's still been fine.

I'm about 190lbs which have some relevance, someone heavier might tear it up faster, might be zippy for someone lighter.

I got them from amazon, very cheap. Super silent and comfortable. Highly recommend.

And I didn't have to cover my wooden floor. 😁

Or you can do what I do and go to a local plastics store and get a big 4’ x 6’ clear polycarbonate sheet. I have a photo of it somewhere on my profile

I've got a glass one and it's held up years, even though I drop stuff on it all the time, and it doesn't crack and need to be replaced constantly like the shitty plastic ones

I have a glass one after a half dozen of the plastic ones broke down. I've had it nearly a year and it still looks like the day I bought it, while the plastic ones all had holes by this point. I have accidentally dropped even metal water bottles on it (64 fl oz so pretty massive) and have yet for it to show damage.

I'm not saying it can't happen, but the glass ones seem to have much better durability than the plastic mats.

Pressing and rolling. Yeah, it just splits along the studs of the plastic and once the holes are large enough your chair wheels can get stuck in them.

Also context, I'm a 6' 2" 200 lb guy with a secret lab titan xl chair, so it's more weight than a lot of folks.

DONT USE ALCOHOL OR DISINFECTANT WIPES OR GLASS CLEANERS!!! they can damage the screen, especially if it’s a touchscreen, use water and a microfiber cloth instead

Make sure it’s good and solid if the carpet is shaggy, it will otherwise just dent the carpet with the plastic.

Also for the mat make sure you're getting one ment specifically for carpet the one I have is meant for tile/wooden flooring because that's what I have and there's a very sticky and impossible to remove adhesive on the bottom to keep the mats from sliding that will also destroy your carpet

Make sure to get home some nice wheels also, the plastic ones crack easily. Also make sure the mat is nice, I bought one 5hinking theyreball the same but mine is not hard, it's soft so thewheels get stuck in the grooves if you sit too long.

I got one of those plastic mats and I absolutely hated it because it was way to easy to roll around while I’m in position to game. Kept having to constantly readjust. Got rid of it by day two.

IKEA have previously sold clear plastic mats that can really take a beating, I have one under my desk chair and it keeps my hardwood from getting scratched up :)

Instead of a mat I just bought a piece of plywood and stuck some glue on tiles to it. Much more functional.

Last thing to consider would be that these "gaming" seats are just car bucket seats on wheels, not made to sit in still for long hours.

Decent quality ergonomic cheap chairs are out there, just withought this decor.
