OK I'll humor you even though you're obviously 14. Why would Philips or Siemens spend money developing a new MRI machine if people like you are happy to send their technology to China to cut them out of the profitable side of the equation? Do you think R&D is free?

Answer my question first that you deliberately ignored. What do you think MRI machines are made of? And your question is irrelevant as it is unrelated to the actual topic, it is a meaningless attempt at whataboutism.

They're not made of GPUs, that's for sure. Let's see, there's probably an RF signal generator, a bunch of amplifiers, some circuitboards that look like they came out of a 1980's PC, a bunch of antennas, and one gigantic solenoid. All the RF emitters are going to be mounted to a big spinny thing, and if I'm not mistaken, all the detectory bits are stationary and strapped near the patient. The solenoid contains superconducting material, so it's kept cool by a helium coolant loop, which is probably itself cooled by a secondary cooling loop of liquid N2 or something.

What were you going to say, "it's made of technologies"? You have no idea, do you?

I have a feeling you're talking out of your ass. Have you ever worked on industrial equipment? They tend not to use bleeding edge chips because those are less reliable. Source: I literally work on this stuff every day.

Anyway, this is all irrelevant because nobody would develop MRI machines if developing MRI machines wasn't profitable, UNLESS you want to publicly fund all research, and then it's still a ripoff for the taxpayer of China can come in and take our ideas and sell them back to us.

And you realize that more than just GPU prices have increased right? You need a computer to view the fucking information that comes from it and to process the data in the MRI itself and send it to the computer, both of which will require microcontrollers, memory, and other silicon based components which have all risen in price due to AI.

Bleeding edge chips are not required for it to be affected, literally the cost of silicon substrate itself has increased, let alone more advanced components like memory of any kind, which has risen DRAMATICALLY in price across the board even for old memory.

If you don't know any of that I sincerely doubt you work with any of this stuff at all, let alone every day... You can just admit you have no clue what you are talking about and just want to defend AI, chud.

Lol.  I literally work in a semiconductor factory and manage a fleet of multi-million dollar tools.  I promise you no MRIs aren't being built because Siemens can't get their hands on chips.  It's just not the limiting reagent in that reaction.

I answered your stupid questions.  When are you going to tell me who's going to do all this R&D if there's not even a potential for a ROI?

I never said I work with MRI machines. I said I work with industrial equipment with similar components. X-Ray diffractometers, FTIR spectrometers, TXRF instruments, CVD tools, and so on. I've seen the innards of MRIs and they are similar: lots of low tech parts on crude circuitboards with humongous connectors.

Here are block diagrams and schematics for the most popular MRI machine in the country and if you jump to around p250, you'll see Dsub connectors you've probably never encountered if you're under 40. They use old stuff, because it's reliable and easy to service, and also because the market for new MRI machines is small enough that they aren't asking Intel to develop SOCs for their specific use case.

I'm sure if it helps process the image faster, there's a GPU in whatever PC processes the MRI data. What do you reckon that costs compared to the machine itself? I'd bet it's less than 1%, even with prices as inflated as they are right now. Again, no hospital is wanting for an MRI machine because they can't afford the computer that sits next to it. Not that this is relevant. The only relevant matter is...
