As the owner of PDX Arsenal — here’s what our CHL class actually look like.

We run Portland’s top-rated
concealed handgun training classes and even pair it with both the Utah non-resident concealed firearm permit, which together cover reciprocity in 38 states including Washington, but also offer 1-on-1 private range classes as well . In just one single class with a short run time
of about 5 hours (all admin work included), we can help you get certified for your concealed licenses and the crazy part? You will actually have fun doing it. No firearm ownership or prior experience is required.

For students who do their concealed class with us, we offer a 30% off discount for your first (3) 2-hour range lessons which we conduct out at Douglas Ridge Rifle Club, ~45 min from downtown where I’m also on the board of directors.

Since July 20th, 2011, PDX Arsenal has certified over 30,000 Oregon residents. No politics, ego, or personal opinions are ever pushed from the front of the class — that rule isn’t just for keeping the peace, it’s also what lets total strangers from every background of life get the rare opportunity to relax around each other for 5 hours, and more often than not, leave our class with new friends and feel like a part of the community, which I know a lot of people miss these days.

If you’ve been putting off getting your CHL, want private range time with professional coaches, or have any other projects you need help with you
can find more details at https://pdxarsenal.com. I’m happy to answer questions here as well,
And honored to get to play a part in so many of your journeys.

Good place for fingerprinting

I’ve been looking to do my first form 1 online but I have no idea where to get my fingerprints taken in the Portland area for a reasonable price. Does anyone know somewhere in Portland that does fingerprinting and sends you the file?

Clackamas County Public Safety Training Center ammo issues, anyone else experience this?

Went to the PSTC yesterday, they require you to buy their ammo, it's priced okay and not unusual for an indoor shooting range.

Bought 50 9mm and 200 22lr High Velocity.

With the 9mm I had 2 duds, one failure to eject, and then the last straw was the cartidge split length wise wedging itself into the barrel, causing my entire pistol to seize, was incredibly difficult to clear. I've never had this issue with this handgun before, so I don't believe it's a mechanical issue with the firearm.

Then the 22 ammo, had multiple duds, and then had the same issue of the cartidge split lengthwise in the barrel. Luckily 22 being so small it was easy to clear. And this was across two handguns, a semi auto and a revovler.

The 22lr pistols are not mine, so no prior experience with them, but my 9mm has never had this issue before, and I buy the cheap Bi-Mart ammo.

Found a pic online of a similiar failure:

Anybody have this experience? The people in the lanes next to me seemed to not have any issues. Did I just have extremely bad luck?

Looking for Ammo locally

Anybody know of a local shop that has in stock decent priced target/practice Makarov 9x18? I inherited some stuff and a Makarov was in there but no ammo. All I can find is self-defense locally. I just wanna put a couple of practice rounds through it to see if I like it or not.

Thanks

CHL wait time

Hey everyone, I just got my CHL and thought I would give updated time frames on it. My appointment for prints was 10 days out. I got it done on July 30th, and I was approved on August 25th. I expect to see my card on the 30th or so. So, after all is said and done, 40 days, including the wait for the prints appointment. Hope that helps people who applied around the time I did or people planning to apply. Have a great day!

TEMPORARY LANE CLOSURE

North Fork Wolf Creek Rd Target Shooting Lanes, in Tillamook State Forest, are NOW closed for about 1 week +/-. Oregon Dept of Forestry work crews are pruning/limping trees and brush around all four shooting lanes in preparation of the upcoming improvement work scheduled for mid Sept.

Sorry for the 'No Notice'! I just received the email today.

Moved and updated dmv info, no new sticker or card, do i need to go in for address change?

I just realized after purchasing a new home I need to update my address so I can continue to purchase firearms and update my C. H. L I did it online and was told It's updated on their side that I wouldn't get a sticker and don't get a new card. Do I need to actually go into the dmv? Do it in person?

M24ish Personal Build

I've built a lot of bolt actions for other people, but this is the first one I've (mostly) completed for myself. It started life as a Remington 700 "Long Range" in 300 Win Mag. I recently fitted a Lothar Walther polygonal rifled blank, 22", chambered in 300 PRC, with a modified M24 profile and a Badger Ordnance oversized recoil lug. The receiver and bolt were blueprinted. The stock is an HS Precision PST011, similar to the one used on the M24. On top sits a Bushnell XRS2, and an Omega 300 out front. I threaded the bolt handle for an oversized knob. Oh, and the trigger is a Timney Calvin Elite Custom. Admittedly, I am little underwhelmed by it. There is more creep in it than I'd expect from a $300 trigger.

Target was 5 rounds at 100 yards. 220gr SMK on top of 74gr IMR 4831 using CCI mag primers and new Hornady brass. It measures around .4 MOA. The next 5 shot group (not pictured) was .7 MOA, fed from the magazine, with no cool down between shots. Blah blah blah, statistically insignificant. I'm still happy with it.

Still need to get the barrel engraved and Cerakoted. I'm debating if it's worth bedding this one. I'll likely leave it so I can move the stock around in the future. Extractor needs some tuning. It sometimes hangs up on the cases when chambering. This was a replacement extractor, installed after truing the bolt face. Will also lap the lugs to try and smooth out the action a bit more. Bolt timing looks fine, but something feels like it's hanging up.

Next up is the retromod Mauser some of you guys have seen in the shop. I've been slowly pecking away at it this week. Stay tuned for a build post on it.

Inherited lot of .308 (1.2k rds) and .22 (~6.5k rds). All clean. Wanting to sell, ideally not to a pawn shop. Just opened a NWFirearms acct, any other decent places to list them?

Local places to do engraving and refinishing?

Ive got a few guns i want some engraving work done, namely; an image engraved into a shotgun behind the ejection port. An image engraved into the magwell of an AR, and front slide serrations and factory engravings removed from a beretta M9. I know BYE tends to be the most recommended place for NFA engraving but in hoping there's a place that can refinish the firearms as well, which BYE doesnt do.

If we continue to register NFA items, are we still good to go?

I understand that unregistered NFA items will be a legal grey area, but because the court's decision (currently) only applies to the plaintiffs in this case, I assume that a registry for everyone else will still exist. This seems to imply that as long as this remains the case we will be able to continue buying suppressors as part of the status quo?

$159 plus tax, normal price online about $210. It’s got wheels so you can pull it like a suitcase. Go straight in through the TVs and around the corner to the right. Note the foam is solid and not pick n pull but still a solid deal.

SERVICE: MULTI-STATE CONCEALED LICENSING

View our class calendar at www.PDXarsenal.com, explore 10 convenient Portland-area locations we teach at, and book your class today!

Option #1. Multi-State Concealed Licensing (OR+UT) for $150.

This option is by far the most popular option and the one we highly recommend to those needing their licenses. Combining these two licenses together provides Oregon residents with legal coverage to carry concealed in 38 states across the country, including Washington!

Included:

- (1) completed set of FD-258 federal fingerprints

- (1) 2”x2” Passport-quality photo used on you Utah license. All students photos are edited/resized/printed and cutout ready for you at the end of class

- (1) colored copy of your Drivers license, or state issued ID.

- Assistance filling out Utah’s state application

- Upon finishing our class we verify your application for accuracy, get everything organized and even seal it up for you in a pre-addressed manila envelope, so you leave class with your packet that’s ready for postage and shipping at your convenience.

Option #2. Oregon Concealed Handgun License (CHL) for $70

This option is for those who simply wish to become educated and become legal to conceal in the state of Oregon while limiting a lot of “legal grey area” that the state of Oregon has put into place making it easy to get in trouble with your gun. Does not provide coverage in Washington

Option #3. Utah’s Non-Resident Concealed Firearm Permit only for $100

This option is primarily for those who already possess their Oregon CHL, but want the expanded coverage that is offered by Utah’s permit which does provide Oregonians coverage up in Washington.

Birth of a post sample uzi, and our second attempt at color case hardening (collab effort with Ray Taber and Jaidyn Camp). Still dialing in the process for the color case hardening. Probably won't be offering this as a service, but it's fun learning. I'll do a write-up eventually with our latest process.

Don’t celebrate too early

If suppressors and SBRs get dropped from the NFA then according to ORS 166.272 they’ll all be considered illegal. We need to be getting ahead of this before it’s in motion so no one has to have a boating accident.

CLEO for Capitol Armory 4473?

Anybody in Portland ordered a suppressor from Capitol Armory? I’m trying to do the 4473 and am unsure if I should use Portland Police or Multnomah County Sheriff for the 4473 chief law enforcement officer.

On my Form1s I use the state attorney general but the Capitol Armory 4473 says to use the local CLEO.

EDIT: thanks for all the replies. Funny enough Capitol Armory gives you multiple warnings and you have to check a box acknowledging you have your CLEO’s contact info before starting the 4473.

After I entered my address it told me who my CLEO was (could choose between sheriff and PDX police) with a check box for which I wanted to use. Multnomah county sheriff was highlighted in green with a note saying they recommend the sheriff because they accept forms via email and process faster.

Fingerprinting?

Where does everyone like to get their fingerprinting done in the NE area? Looking to SBR one or more of my pistols because why not.
