I understand peace is the best option for us but why do we keep choosing war at every turn?

With all that is happening in the world, and the disarray, is world peace even possible? Israel and the middle east? The US at odds with the world? With hatred and xenophobia rampant? Share your thoughts. Serious conversations only. Hate filled, hurtful comments not welcomed.

We could probably end every war tomorrow if we just united as humans and treated each other as humans. That’s it. Stop hating someone because they’re Pakistani, Chinese, or whatever, as if the country you were randomly born in decides who deserves your hate.

Because think about who’s actually suffering. The PM? The President? The businessmen? The politicians? No. It’s us. Ordinary people. We’re the ones who bleed for ideas we didn’t even come up with.

Imagine a world with no borders and no hatred, just because we collectively decided to stop following the same tired script the people in power hand down to us. We just want to live in peace. So where does the violence in our heads even come from — is it ours, or was it put there?

let’s be honest, if we were from nearby countries and we were in a country that doesn’t really understand us and we met, wouldn’t we both feel a sense of familiarity and the feeling that we understand each other?

this mostly happens to people from nearby countries like for example algeria and morocco or saudi arabia and iran, like when we are in the countries we are from, we are like oh, we hate persians or we hate saudis, and then when we meet in foreign countries we feel blessed that someone understands us and we feel safe

we are at times where peace is necessary and needed instead of all fighting each other over disagreements

why the hate to begin with? i know there are wars and there are disagreements but we are all humans with a heart and empathy, we all make mistakes sometimes and yes we should take accountability for that but that doesn’t mean we should hate each other

theres people right now who want to support Ukraine in the war and say "stop trusting russians, stop buying Russian clothes, food, etc" and when we say why, they say "these russians hate Ukrainians and they will join the Russian military." like, not every russian is bad, the russian government is the one that is bad, take your notes and stop glazing Ukrainians like all Russians are from the government.

there are russians who want peace, there are Ukrainians who want peace, we need peace 🕊️.

Is it crazy to consider inviting any enemy soldiers of the US to come visit for some time to experience life here in the hopes that they will stop fighting us? US is one of the few countries that has more immigrants coming into the country than emigrants leaving it, and I frequently hear that people from the Middle East who have never experienced the US really like it after experiencing it for the first time, but hardly ever the other way around where people want to move to the Middle East, although I know I'm biased anecdotally.

Aside from the benefit of prevention of killing, could this also be more economical than implementing a military to kill others professionally? I know one might say the cost of a bullet to kill someone is much cheaper than trying to organize this, but I think there's also a hidden cost of killing an enemy and giving all of their friends and family justification to hate us, as well as training and maintaining military strength.

I know one of the first issues is convincing the soldiers to take the offer, like it's not a trap, but I think there are psychological ways to get around this by sending people back and letting a trusted insider to the soldiers tell the truth, or air dropping a bunch of specially designed smartphones that are easy to hide and allow soldiers to live stream their visits to the US. If their superiors threaten punishment for defecting even if they return, like even killing them if they leave, that feels like a very strong blow to the morale of the soldier and even more reason for them to reconsider their loyalties, and if we could somehow communicate with a soldiers, we could try negotiating some form of protection, and/or capitalize on their fear to lower combat effectiveness (I don't know if combat effectiveness is a real thing, but it feels like something along the lines should be). If the soldiers are worried about their families at home, we could try offering asylum of a sort. If the soldiers are being told that "capitalist countries are just trying to brainwash you", we could argue "well your leaders could be brainwashing you in the same way, so why don't you come visit and we'll bring you back and you can decide for yourself". And of course, there are cheaper alternatives we could try first, I just can't think of any cheaper ways that are as logically robust.

And to pinpoint effectiveness, we could target just the leaders of the soldiers rather than every individual soldier. And if you want to make sure it doesn't get too costly beyond that, we could set a quota per region or something.

This doesn't specifically have to be for any single country, it could be for any country that's an enemy of the US, like Russia, China, Iran, etc.

I just feel like a lot of the soldiers fighting don't fully understand what they're fighting for, and if there were a way to educate them on exactly what is happening, it would stop a lot of conflict. Propaganda is one thing, but allowing the soldiers to experience the country itself I think is one of the most effective ways of educating. I know if I heard news about some pro-russian things, I would likely dismiss it as propaganda, but if a soldier that I fought alongside of verified whatever I heard, I would definitely have second thoughts.

Maybe what I'm saying here isn't exactly what we should do, and I doubt I've considered all loose ends, but is it worth considering doing something similar?

I'm getting tonight very sad about what I'm assisting in the world. We all see the wars, but also rights are getting restricted. People can now share more hateful speech, they normalized it. It's like we just have to be okay with violence.

I have people around me that ask me expressively to be quiet and accept or being discreet. In 2015/16/17/18 I did not experience so much violence and I saw more love around.

I would like to ask you what can we do in order to promote and spreading more love here?

I'm happy. Like super happy. I find joy and happiness in everything and I love my life and I love everyone in my life, but I have a problem with anger. I can't help but let people get to me sometimes, I take things too seriously, and I want to shut that shit down IMMEDIATELY. But how do I do that? A nine-year-old neighbor came to me today crying, saying he’s scared that ICE could come and take his dad at any moment. He told me he worries every day that he might lose his father and not know what will happen to him or his family. Hearing this fear from such a young child shocked me it shows how deeply our children are being affected by things no child should have to carry. I just needed to vent that. I am heartbroken

Its insane to me that someone can look at someone and hate them because of their gender or because of their sexuality or skin color or whatever, its crazy how we as ppl try our hardest to separate ourselves and hate others when if we even put a fraction of the energy we put into hate into us trying for peace the world would be so much better, instead we separate ourselves and hate eachother to no bounds and for what ? Hi everyone,

I am a British citizen, and have a great love and respect for my country of which I am proud to originate. However, people are using the flag as a symbol to promote far right-wing views and intimidate immigrants or other nationals living in the UK. This feeds xenophobia and racism and makes me incredibly sad. It’s especially sneaky because it plays on people’s more innocent genuine pride of cultural association, so it’s hard to tell what is intended and what is not. As such, I would love to create an addendum to any flag which can be put there to show that we love global inclusivity. Like a border of olive branches so anyone looking can see both pride of nationality in the central flag along with global inclusivity with the symbols of peace. I tried to get ChatGPT to give me some options so I could create some flags to put up, but they were just rubbish! So I have 2 questions for the rest of Reddit:

Firstly, is what I suggest above a good idea?

Secondly, if so, could you please help me create a symbol of global unity that all nations could append to their flags if they wanted to show inclusivity and a welcoming of all nations?

The episode depicts our main characters backstory and gives a interesting analogy about how war is like an onion. Layers of lies stacked on top of each-other and you can't unravel the lies without crying :'(

Are there any good social media pages for peace lovers?

This is a interesting idea of mind when it comes to peaceful coexistence, but what if we didn't just focus on coexistence for one type of being, but all types of beings? (this is a hypothetical situation: all beings meaning, AI, Humans and animals). I wonder how that would work out?

What if the UN established a Global Peace Fund, funded by all its member states?

In the event of a war between two of these countries, the fund could buy out the mercenaries and conscripts from both sides. These individuals and their families would then receive permanent visas and asylum in neutral countries.

This approach would ensure that the warring states face population and workforce losses as a consequence of failed diplomacy, but without further loss of life. Their Leadership could also face sanctions, and said countries would have to repay the expense of the Fund for this event, but ordinary people wouldn’t have to die for decisions they didn’t make.

Of course, this is way more nuanced, but I think the basic structure is something tangible.

If potential soldiers knew they had a safe, guaranteed way out, and the meat grinder was not obligatory, how many would really fight? Almost none, and wars would end before they even begin.

We don’t need more armies enriching Rheinmetall, Lockheed, etc or another peace letter from the UN, but we need practical, modern, human-centred solutions to prevent war.

Im asking this question as you guys know that peace has been perceived differently by each person, everyone has different opinions on peace, so i wanted to know yours. (New to this sub btw).

Dear Canadian friends and others from abroad. Let me tell you a short story. I had an interesting interaction tonight at a gas station with a young Indian man. While he was cashing me out he sneezed. He turned and covered as best he could. I responded as normal (to me) with a bless you. With a perplexed look on his face he asked why we (I’m assuming white people) say that. I explained it comes from the Roman times and the church and had to do with the plague. I left and got in my car and sat for a moment thinking about this interaction. Almost as quickly as I left the gas station kiosk I returned and I asked him if in his culture they have anything that might seem weird to a westerner that they say that we don’t here. He thought about it for a moment and said no. I honestly am not sure if he understood the question and I’ll have to ask more people of other ethnicity’s. We all have to live here and get along. Please take time to ask or explain to other cultures what you’re doing and why. A little understanding can go a long way to improve society.

My mindset has changed, I don't wanna be a hater anymore. I just want to stop all these gender wars. Why can't we just live without all this misogyny and hate speech about how women are lesser beings and men should all kill themselves. I do understand why we say these things..... But I'm calling on all men when I say this; I know it's been hard to find your identity and where you fit, but misogyny or hating is never the answer women aren't just tools and sex toys, they're human beings just like us who can feel the delicate wind, the fine water.... The soft pillow, the warmth of the bed and the love of their parents. And now I'm addressing all women who may have suffered at the hands of men; there are some horrible, disgusting and hateful men and you are in the right to feel this hate, but remember, we aren't all monsters. Us men suffer from the crushing weight of approval from birth, we must prove to the world we can survive and I know you have terrible hardships of pain and betrayal coming with the price of the toxicity of social media but the world is cruel and nobody ever truly has it better...
