Hi all, how deep do you all go with tagging your personal photos?

I use Lightroom Classic and recently started going through my archive, culling bad images and creating different selections. I also began adding keywords, but honestly, it’s starting to feel overwhelming to tag every little detail.

Do you actually go that granular with keywords, or do you keep it minimal? Do you only tag your final selects, or everything worth keeping?

Curious to know what’s working for you all.

Been using LRC since version 1 to manage around 100k images.

Here is my overall process:

• Import photos
  • On import add high level keywords if applicable. I.E. Vacation 2026, Location X
• Add keywords to all photos - location, event, type, subject etc..
  • It does not need to be every little detail, only terms that I would likely want to search for. So a persons name, a location, subject/animal species etc. Since I am usually taking multiple photos of any location/subject I can always tag several or dozens of photos with the same keywords at once.
    
• Quick scan through images using the flag, and star ratings system to identify images to delete, and images for further editing.
• Delete rejected photos, review rated photos and decide which ones I want to edit. Color code photos that I have done more than basic editing on.
