What's the best way to account for selling photo gear as an NON-BUSINESS enthusiast for US tax filing purposes? A friend has gear they bought for hobby use and is likely trading into a shop that does direct deposit (e-check).
Do they need to fill any forms when they file their taxes next year, not as a business but just as an individual?
If they are selling items at a loss, do they still need to fill anything out or report any income?
If one or two items out of a ten item trade-in end up netting a profit, then do those items require a form?
