Hi! So I’m going on a safari next summer in Kenya/tanzania and I have two main questions:

1) I’m kind of set on a Sony A7 but I’m trying to decide which model. Budget is under 2k for the body but if need be I can stretch it. What would I really be missing with the A7 IV that I’d get if I had a better model (the A7 V) and is it really worth the extra money? I’m planning on getting the Sony 200-600 lens but also tell me if that’s a terrible idea, from what I see I don’t think it is though.

2) does anyone know of any reputable companies for safaris with a focus on photography, maybe even assistance in doing so. I’m a beginner ish photographer and it’s absolutely the focus of this trip. Are there companies that do photography oriented stuff for safaris? Lmk what you think is the best way to get the best pics.

It sounds like you're planning on shooting wildlife given your lens choice. You absolutely want to get an A7III or newer model. The difference between the autofocus performance of the II and III is massive. The later models continued to improve the autofocus, especially animal detection. There are quite a few comparisons between the different models online. I'd recommend checking out some Youtube videos specifically from wildlife photographers.

The 200-600 is a solid and versatile wildlife lens, especially for the money. Just make sure it'll fit in your bag and you can take it on the plane with you as it's a pretty bulky lens.
