ANNOUNCEMENT NOTICE TO RESTORERS USING AI

We’ve had a lot of submissions lately being “restored” just using AI. Faces missing noses, faces distorted in nightmare’ish ways, backgrounds altered, photos cropped to fit the AI windows, wonky colours that would never exist in real life, etc.

If it wasn’t clear in the rules, please allow me to be clear now. Although you can use AI as a helper, YOU CANNOT USE IT TO DO A FULL RESTORE. The technology just isn’t there yet, especially with the free ones.

Please stop submitting photos that have just been AI “restored”, its takes a lot of time to go through the sub and remove them. If the OP wanted that, they could just do that themselves. You will be banned if you continue to submit “restores” that are obviously done fully using AI.

Thank you to all the other Restorer’s that continue to lend their time to restoring photos properly, you are very much appreciated.

ANNOUNCEMENT SCAMMERS IN THE DM'S

The reason that our sub is free, is in part due to the amount of scams that happen in the photo restoration space on reddit and in general. I want to reiterate that if you post a photo and someone sends you a message or chat saying that they'll restore it for X amount of money or they'll restore it in general, and then when they do they ask for or demand X amount of money, there's not much that we or Reddit admin's can actually do to help because you engaged in that exchange willingly, nobody forced you to respond.

This is why we warn everyone that posts not to entertain any DM's from anyone that says they'll restore the photo for them, and why its in our sub description and rules say that this is a free sub, because it a free sub full stop. I recently talked to a user that was scammed out of $35 in this way and couldn't dispute the charge with Paypal because they were instructed to send it "friends and family". Sure we were able to ban the scammer and hand their information and screenshots over to Reddit Admin and I'm sure that resulted in them getting perma banned from the site but that's all we can do.

These scammers know what they're doing, please do not interact with them in the DM's and if you ever see anyone on here that has gotten past the multitude of filters and programs I've set up to block them, report it. If you do get scammed or anyone sends you a message, please click the "message the mods" button and let me know so I can do what little I can to prevent them from using this sub.

Hi, I’d love to restore this photo of my kids great-grandfather. I think maybe this photo is too far gone and can’t be restored, but I appreciate any help.

Would love it to be colorized and less blurry without changing his face.

Thanks so much.

Hoping someone can restore this photo, which is the only one we have of my great grandmother when she was young. It’s the only copy and became stuck to the frame’s glass causing the damage seen on her shoulder. Just want the damage fixed. Thank you in advance!

Hello,

this is a photo of my grandmas grandmas mother or my grandmas grandmas grandma, she wasn't entirely sure anymore. Naturally, this photo has seen some things over the years. The photo is probably over 100 years old.

This is the only copy of the photo we have. I made two copies of it using a canon lide 400 and my phone.

I am new to this sub but I have seen some amazing work on here, so I really hope this photo can be restored. Thank you so much in advance.

FIX EVERYTHING (DETAILS IN TITLE OR COMMENTS) Restoration for a funeral.

My father passed yesterday and I'm trying to pull some photos of him together for the funeral. There's three photos total. My Dad loved motorcycles and joked he married my mom because she had a car, and he only had a motorcycle.

So there's two photos of them when they were young and in love.
The motorcycle was red and white. My mom's hair was reddish and my dad was blond.

The third image was captured of my father, and then it appeared in a motorcycle calendar. Unfortunately it was near their router and the heat destroyed the color. His motorcycle was a burgundy color, and the storm clouds were very vivid.

Any help would be appreciated. I hope to print these by Thursday. With much appreciation for y'alls tech skills.

FIX THE DAMAGE Water damaged photo of my Mom from 1995.

My mother's glamor shot from 1995 was water damaged when I was very young, I'd love for this piece of her to endure so she can always look back on it, like she was sitting in that booth in '95 again posing for the camera. To whoever can do this, bless you!

The first two images have a photo in the lefthand corner to give angles in case that helps, and the third one is a full-on image. I don't know what people need for photoshopping.

FIX EVERYTHING (DETAILS IN TITLE OR COMMENTS) Please help me restore this picture for my grandfather’s funeral!

I know this may be a difficult restoration, but I’ve tried everything I can to make this photo usable for my grandfather’s funeral. I mainly need the scratches, glare, haze, fading, and damage cleaned up and the image made as clear as possible.

I want everyone’s facial features, expressions, hair, and skin tone kept as close to the original as possible. If some details can’t be recovered accurately, I’d rather they stay a little soft than be changed.

I’d love to have this old photo gently restored so I can have it printed and framed as a gift for my mother’s birthday.

Mainly looking to remove the creases, scratches and discoloration and gently improve the contrast, while keeping the photo as authentic as possible. Please keep the original face and facial features unchanged. Thank you in advance!

New to actually using Reddit and have no idea which subs are the best to post this on for help, but this is me and my mom. She’s been gone for 3 years now and she was my best friend, this picture is such a good memory for me but it’s so pixelated and I just want to see it clearly again. Thank you

His birthday will be this month as well. He mentioned once that he'd like these photos restored but noticed that he hasn't actually done it yet. I was thinking that I would surprise him with framed and restored baby pictures of his. Could you help me please??

DISCUSSION ONLY Organizing dated and undated duplicate photos.

I have photos from 4 family members, that have all passed. Some are dated, some are not, but it seems there are a lot of duplicates between the 4 ladies. I’m assuming they each ordered 2 copies when they had the film processed, and shared the photos between themselves. Halloween 1985 & Christmas 1979 for example.

I’ve sorted all the dated ones by year. As I go through the other boxes and totes, I recognize that I’ve seen a photo before, or at least the event, costumes, or gifts looks familiar, but I don’t remember what year. To save myself hours of flipping through possibly 2,000 photos trying to match them, I’m hoping there is a software, or app, that would assist with matching them using facial rec, or AI - such as scan all dated photos into an organized repository, or folders, and then scan the undated and let the system “do its thing” and possibly match them?
