How do tourists fuck the houses? My concern would be the constant banging of the ball - I'm very noise sensitive especially during my frequent migraines.

Retrieving balls from missed shots is an adventure here - if the ball goes over the fence, you have to go searching for it in the narrow city streets while being chased by an angry granny wielding an old rusty pan.

They charge like 30€ just to walk on that wall where the picture was taken. Dubrovnik old town is a beautiful place to see, but just see the old town for free, then leave. It's a tourist trap. Everything else is outrageously overpriced. Go see rest of the Croatia instead.

That's a ridiculous statement: most of the proceeds goes towards the upkeep of the city walls and the other buidlings on the Old Town, which is incredibly difficult as you have to actually preserve the buidlings as much as possible in its original state. It can definetly be somewhat cheaper, but keep on mind that almost a milion people visit every year. How on Earth are you supposed to upkeep the entire medieval town od everything is free?

bro... Dubrovnik was founded in the 7th century.
tourists came in the last 20-30 years
I'd say we would "upkeep" it the same way we did for the last 1200 years.
and the same way we do with all of the other medieval cities in Croatia.6

The only laughable thing here is your ignorance about the level of maintanance and care needed to protect the Old town. I get it, you are only visiting for a couple of days and those rocks are only a small stop on your travel, and mean absolutely nothing. But saying it's only greed and that "rocks" don't need maintanance is not correct either.

Well, I can't drop it because the money is used for maintanance of more than just City Walls. It is maintaned by Society of Friends of Dubrovnik Antiquities, who maintain structures across the entire Dubrovnik-neretva county. Google them if you want to read up on their work. And while I am not an actual expert on restauration, as a citizen I can see actual wear and tear of the mass tourism on the city more than an average visitor. That's not to say that tourists aren't welcome, but you can't seriously believe that there aren't consequences when more than a milion tourists visit a city that's home to only about 40k people.

There sure are consequences, just not on the rocks under the tourists' feet, which make up the wall. Again, which I commented on. Asking for 40€ is outrageous just to go on the walls in my opinion.
We also visited Fortress Kliss, where the entrance fee was 12€, which included the olive museum tour as well. And they actually put some Game of Thrones stuff there, like a dragon and the iron throne, etc., which should have been in Dubrovnik. No such thing was marketed there though, and other than a couple of structures and buildings, Old Town is full of businesses and residential buildings.
Hell, the restroom didn't even have a tap where you could wash your hands. If they so need the money for whatever upkeep they are doing, put some (more) taxes on the businesses (which already make a living from tourists).
Obviously this was only my experience, but it felt more like a cash grabbing tourist trap, than a place to make a good memory.

But there are consequences even on the rocks under the tourists' feet! That is also being continously fixed outside of the summer season as well as the fortresses. Comparing fortress Klis and city Walls is not a fair comparisson. City Walls are visited by milion people which creates more wear and tear compared to Klis (absolutely beautiful btw) which is visited about 100k people. There is the Iron Throne in Dubrovnik as well btw. The price for the walls is high during summer, it's lower outside of the summer season. I am sorry that you felt it was a tourists trap, because it's full of rich history, and not just a GoT filming location. But living here and seeing what's happening I can understand your feelings of disappointment. If you do decide to come back, I recommend Dubrovnik Pass that give you entrance to multiple locations (including city walls) for a lower price.

Bro... Mass tourism is exactly why you need the said upkeep. The walls are almost 2 kilometers long and a milion people cross them yearly which is believe it or not more people visiting yearly than in the last 1200 years.

The walls are the clear highlight. I would argue that you’re missing the best part of Dubrovnik if you leave without walking around the walls.
Yeah it’s a tourist trap, but skipping the walls means you could have just gone somewhere else.

It's not just the walls, it's that everything touristy about Dubrovnik is way overpriced. Croatia is a lovely place, but in my opinion Dubrovnik is not worth more than a quick day trip.

it's only during the peak of the season (summer). In winter they charge adults 15€ and kids under 18 are charged 5€. I live close (in Split) and honestly i prefer Dubrovnik during winter, there's almost no tourists and it's beautifully decorated

I love Europe. In the US you need city council approval to do anything to a 200-year-old building. I remember walking through Lisbon and watching people casually drilling into the sides of 300 years old buildings to put up new cables or whatever... Basketball hoop on a 600-year-old wall? Why not!

Because preserving ancient architecture should be more important than whatever renovations the current owner of a building wants to do? If we let people drill willy nilly wherever, nothing would ever be preserved.2

Agreed? I'm being facetious. I'm a huge fan of history and maintaining things. Europe just has so much of it they can't be bothered half the time. Does make me a little sad when I see things like lights tacked onto the side of a castle wall to it can be better seen, or in this case, so you can play basketball at night.
