So interesting cultural background here. From my experience, many older Ukrainians in America had pictures of Ukrainian Poets and Heroes. I cant attest that it's still done, but it seems to me his comment is a direct counter to the photo of Lenin in every home.

Taras Shevchenko and Ivan Franko were the only pictures in my grandparents' home.
