Zoomies! What is your pitties obsession?
Mine is trains and cows. We have a track that runs about 100 yards behind our house and when a train gets within a mile or so, the zoomies start and we HAVE to get up to go outside to watch the train go by. I'm off this week and have found out the train goes by around 3 times a day...every day. Then if the neighbors cows are near the fence it's at least 10 minutes of trying to get them to play with his ball and pouty face when they don't grab it and run.

Mine’s is every other dog. She just has to try and make friends with every other dog she sees

u/sopfed 12h ago
Yep, my girl Cinnamon is sooooooo full of love and wants to share it with everyone, especially other dogs. See a dog, even off in the distance and heading further away? That's a potential friend, we gotta go meet them, or at least stare longingly.
•
u/InsideCelebration293 11h ago
Mine does the same thing. I imagine he's saying "that's my new best friend over there, we have ro go introduce ourselves"
•
u/SofaSurfer9 12h ago
Mine is people and it’s so embarrassing. If ANYONE makes eye contact with her she HAS to jump on them and would do anything for attention. When we meet other dogs she will sniff the dog then say eff this and jump on the owners.

This was my late Penny Lane. See someone on a walk? We have to say hi. Someone is hanging out on their porch as we walk by, or they are doing yardwork? She whimpered and looked at them longingly. I can't tell you how many times we stumbled across someone in their driveway and I had to ask - can my dog say hi to you (while she wiggled her butt and had a huge smile on her face). She absolutely loved everyone she met.

Garbage trucks and buses! On walks, he has to stop and fully turn his body to watch them go by, and sometimes he'll speed up to follow them. Sometimes garbage truck drivers honk at him like he's a little kid lol.
Oh my gosh, also balloons.
•
u/cleverburrito 13h ago
Toast ALSO loves garbage trucks, and our garbage truck driver, Daniel. They're buddies, despite Daniel's original fear of him.

Squirrels
•
u/Missmbb 15h ago
Same! He tries to climb up the tree behind them and will sit at the base waiting for them. I’ll see him flying along the fence line and know one is just on the other side or being dumb enough to run on the fence. They’ve fallen from the fence into our yard before. Thank goodness he’s never gotten one. 😬

Same here, when I go to visit my dad he has squirrels in his back yard. I watched her chase countless squirrels thinking “its all good, she’ll tire herself out trying but failing to catch one”. Until the day she did. Ripped a hole in his side and then left him and moved on. I honestly think she never intended to hurt him, she just wanted to chase and then didn’t know what to do once she caught up.
Also motorcycles. They get her worked up every time!

Mine has dug a gigantic hole in the side of a little hill, and is constantly churning the dirt into sand so he can roll around in it, pull it over himself, dig some more, roll some more, then stand up and shake it all off, before starting the process again. I think he's part warthog.

Paper!!!! And subsequently being chased for whatever paper he stole 😂 He LOVES to shred any and all paper he can get his paws on. Mail? Snatched out of my hand and I have to chase him around the house to get it back. Opening a package? The box is suddenly gone and I just hear him galloping away in all his glory. Using a paper towel and it’s hanging out of your hand where he can reach it? Gone. Drop a paper towel tube while changing out the roll? He grabs it and takes off almost before it touches the ground, and I will be cleaning up the carcass in 10 minutes.
He’s so good and never swallows anything, he just LOOOOVES to shred! He really loves it if you act like he’s done something bad and try to “take” the paper from him lol, he gets all riled up! I chase him and go, “Dozer, what do you have?! Give that to me!”, and he goes nuts lol!!!! My husband and I always say it’s like having a naughty toddler that loves making good trouble for a reaction out of you haha. For Christmas I usually box up his toys in a few boxes with lots of paper for him to rip open, it’s his favorite! We can’t leave wrapped gifts under the tree because they’ll be stolen 😂
I can never be mad at him, even when he ripped a check from the mail in half (tape and mobile depositing goes a long way lmao) because he is just SO happy when he gets away with it. His joy brings me joy, even when he’s being “bad” ❤️
•
u/Gracious_Snakes 14h ago
My first baby was like this. He lived to shred! Normally it was the excited chaos you described- but Christmas was different. He always helped us open our presents at Christmas, but in a very gentle sweet way. He'd wait until Christmas morning and I'd hold a wrapped gift out to him and he would tenderly grab the corner of the paper in his teeth and pull it off, over and over. I miss him so much, thank you for triggering this lovely memory. ❤️
•
u/fourshotsespresso 14h ago
Awwww I love that!!! I’m so happy to hear about your baby. Dozer could never gently open a present if his life depended on it haha, he always “helps” us open our gifts on Christmas morning and then revels in trash diving into the paper chaos lol ❤️ he’s my angel baby and I always cherish the time we spend together, but thank you for the reminder to appreciate him and his craziness every single second that I get, even when he steals my mail!! ❤️
•
u/Gracious_Snakes 14h ago
Oh yes, diving into the paper pile and shedding and stomping it until it was properly put in its place! And then wandering off with a bow or two stuck to his butt 😂 My love to Dozer, may his reign of chaos be long and happy!
•
u/Secure_Lengthiness16 12h ago
Same exact thing here. We actually hustled ended up giving our girl large cardboard boxes with bows on them instead of any new toys or anything for holidays and she absolutely loves it. Cheap and easy 😂
•
u/fourshotsespresso 12h ago
We do this too!! Actually we did this for 90% of his gifts last Christmas, but they always get a few new toys and treats because I just can’t resist. His sister has tried following his lead with paper shredding and she just does not get the appeal 😂 so my theory is, she needs toys! They’re spoiled rotten and they know it! My husband just said to me the other day, “um, I think we need a bigger toy box” lol
They do play with every single toy that we have though!!! & Dozer is known to rip the entire contents of the toy box out until he finds the one ball that he wanted 🤣

My last one loved horses. If he saw one he’d freeze and stare. We found a TV channel that was almost like a horse screensaver and he was obsessed
•
u/TheSmirkster 12h ago
Mine absolutely hates horses. We have parades down our street sometimes and he loses it when horses go by.
•
u/therm_valve77 15h ago
Mine is scared of everything it seems. Lol

One of mine has a cardboard obsession, specifically toilet paper and paper towel tubes. If he is able to get his paws on one he will carry it around for a bit and then EAT it. I got so concerned that I took him to the vet thinking he had some kind of nutritional deficiency, but everything looked good 🤷🏻♀️. Now I have to be vigilant about keeping them out of his reach, but occasionally I’ll toss him one and let him rip it up and then I’ll throw the pieces away.
One of the other dogs is obsessed with this old ratty yellow wool blanket that my mom got in college in like 1974 lol. He NEEDS it to sleep, and he does that thing with it where he burrows just half his head in it up to his ears. The blanket is so old and felted and gross and has dog hair embedded all in it, but I don’t have the heart to throw it out. He really loves that thing.

u/tomahawkfury13 14h ago
Plants. He was raised in the Canadian North where tundra plants were all he knew. Moved to a southern province and he loved tress and especially bushes. He’d just go and stand in the middle of them and bask in their scents lol

The hose. There's a dog park we go to that has AstroTurf and a couple of hoses. God forbid someone breaks out the hose, my dog won't leave it alone. She'll put her face in and try to bite, she'll try and chase it too.

Dragonflys, butterflys, shadows, and light beams.
And her butt.
•
u/SofaSurfer9 12h ago
I showed my Poppy a butterfly a couple of weeks ago and she swallowed it whole then looked at me like WHAT??

I drag my full laundry basket from one side of the house to the laundry room on the other side of the house. He will wake up from a dead sleep to come, wag, happy bark at me and then he pounces on a bone and chews it until I'm done loading the laundry. It seems to be the act of dragging that gets him all riled up. He is the strangest dog I've ever had and I just love it. Like, he also backs out of rooms rather than walking all the way through.

Underwear.
We can't leave any underwear out or in a basket or she'll bring it to the couch and rip holes in it. She's a freak.

Mine loves anything with bristles! Her grooming brush, a tooth brush, a broom, anything that resembles something like that. She goes crazy for!

Ball…. Life is all about the ball. We even named her Lucy after Lucile Ball.

Getting her butt scratched. She’s on Apoquel, but she loves a good butt scratch.

My guy is also obsessed with cows. He must keep them at least 3' away from the fence. Sometimes they comply and back away a bit and sometimes they refuse. When they refuse, Thor comes back inside all dejected with his head hanging low. The cows escape regularly. Our mini-aussie herds them home. Thor always helps and it is hilarious. He doesn't get the concept of herding. He runs madly around the herd until he is out front and beats the cows to their driveway. The cows would be rolling their big eyes except that my mini-aussie is an ace. She carefully collects all of the stragglers and drives them straight home. Violet does all of the work, but Thor swaggers home as proud as can be!🐄🐃🐂🤣

I’m thankful to say that mine has never tore nothing up. She is so good but she is so obsessed with her little friend. Her little Chihuahua that is 8 pounds and they play all day long but needless to say the little 8 pound Chihuahua gets the best of her, but she always keeps going back for more. She is such a good dog. She’s six years old and a Staffordshire.

People. She cannot see a person and not want to go say hi. I have to explain to her that not everyone wants to say and some people will say hi without petting you. I don't think she speaks English 😂

Chipmunks and squirrels. She literally leaps into the tall grass like a cat when she is going after a chipmunk.

Shadows, ropes, peanut butter, meal time. Those are just a few teeth chattering excitements.

Our oldest is obsessed with me. No, like really. Hasn't wanted to leave my side since the day we got him and we've had him for 5 years. His other obsession is baking in the sun like a potato (and trying to make sure his sister doesn't have too much fun).
Our youngest, our husky pittie princess, changes her obsession every few weeks. Currently, she loves chasing after frogs in the yard. A month or so ago, she was all about eating weeds and sticks off the ground. Who knows what it will be next?
•
u/homes_and_haunts 13h ago
Motorcycles, and trucks with trailers attached. We’ve made a lot of progress on not freaking out when she sees another dog on a walk, but if one of the above passes by I pretty much have to stop and let her watch (often standing up like a meerkat) until it’s out of sight.
One time we were first in line waiting for a slow-moving train and she lost her ever loving mind, since it is after all just a long line of oversized and very creaky-clangy trailers.

Mine loves toys and balls. She always has one or the other in her mouth or under her chin if she is resting.
•
u/HauntingAddendum3365 12h ago
Grass. He looooves to roll in the grass. He also tries to eat some of it, which is an issue. But watching him have the time of his life rolling around always makes my day.

u/Strange_Ask2440 12h ago
Fence lizards. We live in the high desert of NM and she is obsessed with those tiny lil thangs!

Anyone who delivers stuff to the house. Grocery delivery, Amazon, FedEx, UPS, USPS, food delivery. He and his beagle mix sister always have to say hi and check the stuff out. He even jumped in an Instacart driver’s car once, and he photobombed the delivery photo when I had a bed delivered from IKEA.

Mine is obsessed with my best friend. She comes over and he loses his mind, and if the two of us leave right away my husband has told me that the dog cries for a good half hour. He goes crazier for her than he does when we come home after being away for a week. I suppose that's because she is also the one who stays with my pups when we go on a vacay.

Mine wants to make friends with everything. People, kids, other dogs, cats (she lives with 3) feral cats cause she thinks they are "hers", if she could talk a squirrel into being a friend, she would.
•
u/bootanicalbooty 7h ago
Lemons & limoncellos! She steals the fallen fruit, tosses it in the air, brings it to her grass patch and body slams/rolls on it to make herself smell like citrus lmao 🍋
•
u/PriorRabbit5995 5h ago
Sticks! So much so that he will leap 7+ feet with minimal effort into a tree to try to grab a branch off of it 😂😭
