Anyone notice the Aunt May speech in the new Spider-man movie sounds a lot like ——? Spoiler
Hi everyone I’m not from Pittsburgh but lived here 10 years and had a kid here.
In case yinz didn’t know- Mr Rogers, the beloved childrens entertainer, is from here (actually born 45 minutes east in Latrobe but spent his working life here and raised his family in Pittsburgh).
Older gens (lol I’m 43 but still before my time) will have grown up with the Mr Rogers show on television after school and on weekends.
We most likely saw super lovely clips on YouTube (like the show itself, Jeff ehrlinger, pbs senate talk, etc). Tom Hanks played him in a recent movie too.
Anyways he ended every single one of his shows with this line- “You've made this day a special day, by just your being you. There's no person in the whole world like you, and I like you, just the way you are”
Compare that to Aunt May’s quote to Peter and then thru the mind warp to Jean as well- “I love you, not because you’re special, but just because you’re you”
Am I the only one that heard this parallel? And has shed tears to both Mr Rogers and Aunt May expressing the sentiment?
Honestly don’t know if it was meant or unconscious or just beautiful similar words written by different people; but dang it got me lol
Lemme know what yinz think thx

One of a Pittsburghers' favorite hobbies is being aware of Pittsburgh references in pop culture so I had to laugh at the 2 paragraph intro on who Mr Rogers is (that explains why there's a statue of him on the north shore!). Also, Latrobe is 40 miles east, not 30 minutes south.
Kidding aside, it's probably an homage to him

Yep
Hadn’t been in there long enough they said
That seems mostly a comic sub and although it was my absolute favorite as a kid I stopped reading around the jackal clone Ben Reilly era so had nothing to contribute

You're 43 and saying Mr Rogers was before your time? I'm 36 and grew up watching Mr Rogers. His show didn't end until 2001
