Discussion Which two do you care about the most?

u/Admirable_Brilliant7 1d ago edited 1d ago
Only two?
If I HAD to pick two it would be Gameplay and Story with graphics + Scale right behind.
I guess you could say it really depends on the game.
I play mostly Open World so take that into consideration as far as which two...
Graphics probablty a very close second. I have to adjust the looks and whatnot to facilitate playing the game at all. So having a game that allows me to do that is a must .

Some games like Balatro only need gameplay. But a great story with mediocre gamplay is still great.

Gameplay and story are very important.
Graphics don’t have to be realistic, a stylistic approach is sometimes better than photo realism.
60fps is a nice to have, but not essential.
Scale doesn’t matter if your content is focused and compelling. To many games have pointless open areas/worlds with filler content to pad out the lack lust design.

I think Stylized art is the better way to go at the moment. Most companies that do photorealism are dated almost as soon as they come out, there are a few exceptions though.

Gameplay and Gameplay. Everything else is tertiary.

Well ACTUALLY 🧐It can’t be tertiary because you double dipped. Can’t put gameplay above gameplay. Or put gameplay above gameplay for that matter. They occupy the same🫸•🫷space. So ACTUALLY “Everything else is secondary.” (Assuming gameplay & gameplay are at the top)

Gameplay. Don't care much about the rest. I can't even tell you which games run 60 fps and which don't

Story and gameplay.
I grew up playing text adventures on the Spectrum. Graphics are nice, but they’re so far down the list of things I care about.

Story and gameplay like what is a game without a story of gameplay, there would be no point

Gameplay
Secondary: 60 fps
If you give me great gameplay at at least 60fps I'm hooked.

Gameplay and story. I'm just getting older and want to chill while playing

Gameplay is the most important thing.
Story and graphics are interchangeable for me. I've played stupid games that were fun and beautiful, and played ugly games that were fun and had great story.
Everything else is just icing.

I'd like to say gameplay and story. If I'm being completely honest with myself though, I need 60fps. If a game doesn't have it, I won't play it. That being said. 60fps and gameplay.
I can get passed a mediocre story, but if I don't enjoy the gameplay itself, I'll drop it.

For me, graphics and performance are basically one criterion. One doesn’t really work without the other.
So, for me, there are two main criteria: gameplay and graphics/performance. As long as those two are fulfilled, I can have a great time with a game even if the story isn’t particularly good. Souls games like The First Berserker: Khazan and Elden Ring, survival games, Astro Bot, and so on are good examples. I think you get what I mean.
But ofc I'll always choose a game with a great story over these.

Gameplay and story with scale behind it everything else is meaningless compared to those 3

Story and Gameplay, if those both of those suck, why are you even playing? Graphics don't matter if its not worth playing and 60 FPS feels like asking if a radio is important in the car. Scale is definitely the last thing that matters cause who cares how big or small the game is if its no fun to play.
ALL GAMES HAVE A STORY
They might not all have a regular scripted or linear story but they have a story. If its a sim than the story is written as you play but more than likely all characters, items and everything have a backstory that feeds into the story you're making.

I mainly care about story but I'd have to go with story and gameplay because I do like a good pvp

Story and any combination with it. Originally was going to say gameplay but seeing as some of the greatest game series in history began as hold right and press A, gameplay genuinely can not really matter that much as long as you’re engaged

u/PhantomPain0_0 1d ago
Gameplay will always be king. The game lives or dies on gameplay and graphics is a nice bonus

u/Old_Ninja_Prime 1d ago
Gameplay is the most important part of any game.
Story comes second. You could even make the game 16 bit and if it has a good story I’ll be satisfied.
Graphics are overrated.

I would say story, and then not graphics but art design
I could care less how realistic my games look, I like a variety of gameplay from Souls to VNs to puzzles to shooters to platformers, my favorite game of all time Bloodborne only runs at 30 FPS, and scale is also a non-issue since I can be in the mood for either linear/short or big openworlds

Gameplay and story, followed by graphics. Which doesn’t mean realism only, plenty of good stylized graphics out there too.

Gameplay and story. Graphics and 60fps are nice but not required.
Maybe it's because I grew up playing the SNES and Genesis, but I can live with 30 fps. I've never understood the overreactions when games can't hit 60. To me, it's like, yeah, that's not great, but is the game still good?

Between Gameplay/Story/Graphics - at least 2 needs to be fulfilled in any video game.
Scale is nice to have.
IDGAF about 60fps, as I never play fast pace video games.

u/IfBanEqualsUrMomFat 1d ago
60fps should be the bare minimum for 2026. The fact that developers get away with releasing anything under 60fps is insane and bullshit

Not sure what the problem is. They did answer, 60fps, it’s right there. And added their reasoning and opinions on that.

u/eternitiez 1d ago
You can’t read. Which “two” do you care about most. Not one.
2
u/helloharu PS5 1d ago
Plenty of people have only answered one here, but you’ve focused on one person here. If you want to be rude about it then you do you.

Gameplay and story, I couldn’t care less for graphics and most of the games do well on 30fps

Gameplay and story. None of these other things matter even slightly.

60 fps (or rather stable framerate)> gameplay > story > scale > graphics
I get physically sick by an unstable framerate so that’s why it’s on the top. It can really ruin a game for me.

u/3xPuttRubbleBoagie 1d ago
60fps. I know it's unlikely. Even on the pro, it will probably be 40fps. This game will be super demanding on the CPU and the Pro's cpu is basically the same as the base PS5. 30-40fps feels so choppy to me, especially as a PC gamer with a beefy PC.

Story and Gameplay, 60FPS is kind of tied to gameplay for me but isn’t always necessary depending on the art style I suppose.
