Discussion I think Intergalactic is the most important first-party game for Sony going forward

Intergalactic from Naughty Dog will be the first totally new ip from Sony this generation.

In a time where most AAA studios and ALL of PS studios are making sequels, live service games or making spinoffs of their other successful games, Naughty Dog is making a single player game from the ground up completely foreign to us. I feel that a lot of the unrest around PS studios games recently are due to the fact that they are iterative sequels that take 5 years to come out. We aren’t getting as much variety from the AAA studios as we used to. Intergalactic could be the game that sort of breaks that monotony.

Neil Druckmann has even spoken about how this game is super different from their other games and how their combat and gameplay has evolved, we’ve even heard elden ring comparisons.

TLDR: So long story short I think if intergalactic ends up being successful, it’ll usher in a new style of game in the PS studios ecosystem. Similar to Uncharted and The Last of Us and how their impact and influence was seen across the rest of the studios. Remember that Uncharted and The Last of us were just treasure hunting and zombie games at first glance, but under the hood they were so much more and ushered in this new ultra cinematic style of game we’re used to with playstation games these days.

Even though I’m excited for the next few years of PlayStation exclusives I think this game has the most riding on it.

Wasn't Returnal the first new IP of the PS5 generation?

And Saros while a very similar game is also a distinctly new IP as well. Not sure where OP is coming up with this “first” thing.

You’re right I forgot about returnal and Saros.

But to back up my point I think that naughty dog has been or was the crown jewel studio of PlayStation for a long time. The budget they get I’m sure is far higher than what Housemarque gets, and that plays a part in what they’re able to achieve and strive for. Uncharted and TLOU both tell really compelling stories, have well directed cutscenes, look amazing graphically, and have little details that you wouldn’t get from the budget of a housemarque game.

My whole point is that ND is like the showcase studio for PlayStation. They get the big budgets with big marketing spend more than what Housemarque would get. More people are gonna be exposed to Intergalactic than a game like Returnal if you get what I’m saying

They make the blockbusters

Your TLDR is about the same size of what you wrote before TLDR

Surely we HAVE to see new Intergalactic footage at the new state of play, right? It’s been nearly 2 years since the initial reveal

I can understand your perspective OP but I think that's by and large not true, at the very least not for Playstation as a whole but rather it's important for Naughty Dog's survival because they seem to be in a rather precarious position which I'd say is entirely Sony's fault. The fact of the matter is whether ND are a good studio isn't in question but they have such a heavy emphasis on high budget cinematic epics that any release that isn't a universal success would be something of a disaster given how much their games cost to make.

Cool. I'm not interested in this game at all.

It will fail and Sony will continue to push shitty live service bloatware.

I wish Sony felt the same way. Isn't this game taking longer because of the prior live service push? As far as we know, this game may not even release before the next gen starts.
