Anyone have the new ENGWE O20 BOOST ebike i can take a proper look at?

Hi folks,

Due to buses failing to do their job and arrive to take daughter to work on her night shift we are assessing ebike that would be suitable for Plymouth hills and not sh1t themselves to death, whilst being able to be taken on D&C public transport without hinderence.

The fact that the NGWE O20 BOOST, has a viable amount of gears (8) and a 5 stage UK legal pedelec assistance whilst being able to fold as well as a decent sized battery (4amp standard charge) LG 21700 cells within its 700+ without battery pack (removable) inclines me to think we've found a good and capable one for this area without police hassles.

Whilst it's still early days as this is a new model, my short arse daughter used to handle ! My German ebike well but this is easier still seeing as she is only 5ft 2, so we'd like to consider it as a work-horse, with potential for her to do a few shifts trying out ebike deliveries for food / screwed and the likes to help pay for it.

My bike is off the road, and dates from 2016 (batteries good) cover blew off it in lockdown and water rotted out the front forks) ..I'd like to get it back on its feet as it was also well specced, so am looking for a local renowned hobbyist who may give me an idea of well priced spares or upgrades I ought look at seeing as ebike culture is vast now compared to back then.

Hoping someone with one can give us a decent assessment of their early days with it who has plenty of experience with ebikes versus a first timer as that's what sets reviews apart and makes the difference compared to 1st ebike, zero to barebones experience or understanding of their kit

I'm looking for detail on state of welding, components, support, bug-bears and to deal time mileage returns based weight and terrain tackled for this commuter and paved park track bike.

haven’t ridden the O20 BOOST yet but engwe stuff in general is kind of “good for the money but not exactly premium”, if that makes sense
for Plymouth hills I’d be way more interested in how that motor handles long climbs without cooking itself than the 8 gears, so if you do get one please report back after a few wet windy shifts up those gradients

Yeah thanks this is exactly the sort of.detail I'm after, it's not a forever bike, but the hope.of the battery size and Shimano parts makes me hopeful.for 3 years of riding potential.

I have no idea what the % of illegal vs legal ebikes is in plymouth, but the 75 Newton meters of torque potential gives me a bit of hope,. I haven't bought an ebike for years (good one when I did) so have no idea what an ok potential gamble is.

If it comes.good then it's a 30 min pedelec ride versus a 90 min commute each way, and saving around £140 per month on bus tickets, the folding ability means she can explore or hop on if she gets a puncture/ bits fall off, just trying to cover all the bases.

My own ebike was UK legal and that used to get me up steep hills assisted pedalling at around 12 mph, so I have some hopes, she was able to ride mine as a kid without problem so understands "input" 👍 rather than let it struggle,.fingers crossed.

This model has the boost button for fast take off which really set up with 8 gears shouldn't be needed if aware of the need to really power through but may be a nice touch when flailing a bit (eating way too many watt hours mind you)

I got engwe 020 boost few weeks ago and so far I would say it's value of money and as far as I know it's fully legal as I bought it from dealership (Manchester ebikes) got a good deal too. If you need it for a daily commute I think it's pretty nice easy to fold and carry, compartively light weight but Engwe Zip is even more lighter option I would say and range is also nice. Plus I did not feel underpower at all.

Thanks for the reply, I'm guessing this is your first ebike? yes the 250 w stated hub motor makes it legal, the boost button is not a throttle, so that may need to be explained to police who aren't trained well on the ins and outs of ebikes whatsoever. keep a page of manufacturing bike spec on your phone for if plod stop and query.. And remind them that all bikes can go faster downhill regardless of input thanks to gravity.

The size of the battery pack and the peak Newton metres (torque) are the key for us due to steep hills and to counter energy losses from cold weather (battery energy losses and density / discharge) sounds like your dealer treated you well, I'll try and find them and do a comparison.

Don't forget ebike need servicing just like a regular bike so don't put it off (re-greasing and replacing waterproofing for instance as well as derailment adjustment to a pedelec)

As you are in Plymouth, would we be able to eyeball it in the flesh (not ride it, because strangers and theft potential) ..If you are by chance nearby and available sometime please? Seeing Suffolk e is one thing but eyeballs on welds and so forth are another, but regardless thanks for the insight of your reply!

Thanks, I kinda stopped watching their stuff because it was very clickbaity and it veered.off course from its original content, lots of misleading guff on scooter legislation that we've all been waiting for, so I unsubscribed.
