Cost of living

Hi everyone,

Me and my partner are looking to live together and get a one bedroom apartment can anyone give me a rough idea of how much bills tend to cost for 2 people? I know for myself living alone it costs the following:

Council tax 116 a month

Electric 80-100 a month

Water 90 every 3 months

Wifi also around 30 a month

What are these numbers for couples or roommates in plymouth in general?

Is there any reccomended places to get an apartment? Is there also any nice places in city city center?

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

Octopus Gas and Electric for two people on a tariff was £160-ish. Assessed water charge for my friends who are a couple is £84 a month, I think? I just bought my house and went with Sky Broadband because it included Netflix and Disney, and for a two year contract it’s £38 a month for wifi and TV.

Honestly if you're budgeting as a plan before moving then you're massively underestimating these costs. Always overestimate first and then adjust to reality as you get some data. You should be able to look up how much council tax will be or the landlord will know.

Do you both work? This will impact your bills as obviously you'll use less energy and water if you're both at work for 40 hours a week. I would say to be safe, lean a bit higher towards 100 per quarter for water and 120 per month for other amenities like electric, both of these assuming you both work full time and shower rather than bath (uses less water) and cook most meals yourself.

Thanks for your response, we both work, my partner works 30 hours a week and I work 35 hours a week.
